Hello friends,

Wild west is one of the least used setting in video gaming as most games set in either fantasy or sci fi setting. and old west is one of the most interesting setting yet barely any game use it.

Red Dead is only series today that is popular for wild west and only doing atm. so here i came to think should more games do old west setting?

how about some popular FPS developer make western FPS? someone like crytek can make amazing wild west sandbox FPS since they are doing western coop shooter and when i watched the footage i feel like they should have made crysis style old west FPS.

so friends, do world need more western games? discuss

RDR 2 encompasses literally everything I could ever wish from a western game. It's like a bunch of people came together with all the western era fantasies they've wanted to experience as a child from every form of media they've seen and recreated them to immaculate detail and love for the historical period and source material. I honestly couldn't ask for more. As one who enjoyed RDR 1 but didn't think anything too highly of it, I adore RDR 2 to death, it's incredible in so many aspects, and if you'll excuse the hyperbole, will go down as one of the greatest games of all time in my book and I say that as not even being a major fan of westerns.

I don't think we need a single western themed game after this in varying game genres as, IMO, R* has covered all the bases in just one.

I agree Ubisoft should go back to the roots and release call of Juarez keeping the 1st person view. Don't think it would work open world though.

@ghosts4ever: Well, first you have to look at the reason why RDR2 is a hit.

Is it because it´s a rockstar game or because it´s a western game.

But my answer is no, we don´t need any more western games, especially not from Rockstar, all they need to work on now is Bully 2 or GTA 6

Nah, I'm good. I like modern and futuristic weapons and settings, and if not those, then really old settings. Late 19th and early 20th century doesn't appeal to me much.

Nah, RDR2 has completely taken care of my need for a good Western game. You can play RDR2 via the fps view if you want, so it might as well already be an fps, although I consider it a third person game at heart and that is how I play it.

I'll be excited for another Western title if it comes out better than RDR2, and there is absolutely no chance in hell of that happening anytime soon.

I never really got interested in Wild West games. It's probably because it hits so close to home. We live in Wild West country. Tombstone and the OK Corral are nearby. Giant cactus, sagebrush, red canyons, snowy deserts, native tribes..... You name it (even roadrunners meemeeep and coyotes). It's here.....cept buffalo. ;)

Most of the people here make a big deal of their Wild West heritage. So, yeah. I kinda passed on the Wild West, including games about it. I love reading about it though. ;)

Copying what's popular and trendy is boring. Developers should focus on dreaming up and creating their own visions. Like The Quiet Man.

Also, buy Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. Or wait for the remaster or whatever it is Techland is getting at.

Nothing would be able to compete with it.

Maybe a steampunk fantasy openworld would he cool though.

RDR2 is not a good wild west experience. Its a mess.

RDR1 and Call of Juarez games are much more pure wild west adventures.

Most gamers will get bored with RDR2 soon, and the whole game will be forgotten before christmas. So, seeing this, devs will not bother making other western games.

You should note that the game is gettign very mediocre scores from us gamers. Fanboys might be giving it ten before they even finish the game, haters might be giving it zero, but honest gamers like me, they give it 7 or so. And justly so, as it is very mediocre, and fails to deliver.

I sold my copy on Facebook after a few hours. It's not bad, but I don't at all like how it handles in Free Aim and am spoiled by Breath of the Wild's superior open world approach. Also, default walking in a shooting situation is SUPER LAME. You can make it a toggle in the settings, but it's still an annoyance. Professional reviewers are such shallow players.

Yes, default walking! You have to tap Cross to run if you're using the toggle option. Rockstar's open world games have had default walking since GTA IV. I've seen people run during gunfights in videos, but if I'm having trouble with it, it doesn't work that well. It's freaking stupid, if you ask me. The control stick has degrees of movement, but Rockstar doesn't even give you a slow run when you push it to the edge without pressing anything else. What a waste! The combat is a far cry from Max Payne 3. You can't even swap shoulders without holding the left trigger. Rockstar doesn't know how to make fun gunplay anymore.

what do you mean anymore? GTA3, vice city and san andreas has AWFUL gunplay. its not new for rockstar.

only max payne 3 has good gameplay out of all rockstar games. although RDR2 is only game that i want to play that is not available on PC so im waiting for PC version.

What do you mean, what do I mean? I simply said that all their open world games have had default walking since GTA IV. I don't remember if San Andreas did. I never implied the previous games had good gunplay.

Also, the crouch in RDR2 isn't quick enough to be used to quickly duck under fire, as in Max Payne 3's, especially the multiplayer. Almost everything in RDR2 is sluggish. People have such low standards now. It goes beyond realism. Real people aren't as sluggish as these old farts, unless they're tired. It's ridiculous.

Now you have less access to the camera stick and face buttons and now you may be running too fast. Now you're probably using a claw grip on your controller. Brilliant! So much better than simply letting you slowly run by pushing the stick, what it was fucking made for.

No, it definitely wouldn't. It would enhance it. You can always walk by pushing slightly in any other game. The only reason it might hurt the gameplay is because the animations are so ridiculously sluggish.

The thing that upsets me is how much standards have fallen and how poor design like this is now applauded. This conversation, on the other hand, doesn't bother me. It feels good to call out Rockstar's bad mechanics. I am having more fun with Breath of the Wild, thank you.

A game like RDR2, NO. It would be compared to it and slammed hard.

Games like Wild Arms, Lego _____ and Toy Story featuring a Woody Level, that’s fine.

Probably not. RDR was the ultimate western sim at the time and kind of eliminated the need for any more western-themed action games. I can't imagine RDR2 is any less of a triumph.

have you tried Kingdom Come Deliverance?

its not as polished as RDR2 but its design philosophy is very similar. It totally immerses you in its setting and story.

the main drawback is how buggy it is but I've heard its improved since launch. it also has a somewhat annoying save system, that can be modded on PC but on consoles I think you are stuck with it.

anyways, its worth a look if you like RDR2's approach to open world design and storytelling.

Nope. That's what makes it so special is that there is nothing else like it out there. What we need are more games that explore unique settings instead of developers copying each other.

have you tried Kingdom Come Deliverance?

its not as polished as RDR2 but its design philosophy is very similar.

Yeah I have it. It's a pretty good game aside from the technical issues. I like it because it's grounded in realism whereas other medieval games always force fantasy elements.

@uninspiredcup: WHEREE ARE YOU MARSHAL?

This game honestly doesn't get enough credit. It done a really good job emulating classic Westerns This was 1997 pre-dating the likes of Homeworld, Halflife and Metal Gear Solid. Aside from their own Jedi Knight and System Shock, story-telling was practically non-existent, and generally no where near the quality of this games animated sequences.
