Can't really compare a $10 game to a $60 one.
If Braid cost $60 it would not have got 9.5.

The ownage is swift and strong in this one.
End topic right now.
I think you are. GS has stated before that they intend to make their scores comparable across platforms. That also means a downloadable score can be comparable to a retail score. Besides, just because a game is retail doesn't mean it has to sell for $60. This could be comparable to a game released at $14.99 or something. Plus, what happens when a full retail-size game becomes downloadable and especially downloadable-only? This blurs the distinction and forces all the games together, just as multiplats force all the platforms together for comparison.I personally think there is a difference in quality. Its easier for a $10 game to get a 9 than a $60 game to get a 9. Gears2 getting a 9 is a far bigger achievement than a game like FLOW getting a 9. I think (and Im not sure here) that GS takes into account the price and the type of game it is and rates accordingly. So like how they would never hold a PS2 game up to the same standards as a PS3, they would never hold a downloadable game up to the same standards as a full-fledged $60 game.
I may be wrong...

Wow, the Lemmings of 2008 really are the Cows of 2007, such crazy damage control. No, downloadable games have never counted in System Wars as far as I know.Floppy_JimThey have to be counted now because the distinction between them is blurring. Downlodable games can be had at retail, and retail games can be downloaded.

It has to do with price not if it's downloadable or not, if PSN gets a 60$ downloadable game then it counts, same fo xbl.

For the PS3 maybe. Sony really seems to like that model. Are there even any dual releases for the 360? Retail disc / DL off Live?
I count em myself.. But some people are just too much into graphics too realize how good these games can be...
WOrld of Goo is definitly 1 of my top 5 games this year so far, yet its wiiware, If that can't count, then what can count?
omgimba
I've had just as much fun with the 15$ World of Goo off of WiiWare that I've had with GTAIV.
Dismissing Donloadable games as inferior because they are cheaper and smaller is a mistake.
No they don't count. I like small downloadable games like Audiosurf as much as the next guy, I've had more fun with it than many full sized retail games. But in this context it's not about fun.
Since SW revolves around review scores the games must be reviewed at least somewhat similar standards to be comparable with each other. Small arcade games etc. will always have an unfair advantage as they don't get penalized for being short or for having low production values(graphics and so on).
[QUOTE="Senor_Kami"][QUOTE="user_nat"][QUOTE="Sully28"]Depends, games like warhawk, wipeout HD, socom, gt:prolouge should be counted, they are on the scale of games you by in stores, but games such as pixeljunk monsters or braid should not be counted.user_nat
Braid is on a similar scale to.. Heavenly Sword. As far as gameplay length goes anyhow.
Dude... are you serious? You sound like a cow pretending to be a lemming and just saying some straight up nonsense/flame-bait.
Ok well it obviously isn't the same scale entirely, seeing as Heavenly Sword wasn't made by one person.
However, IN MY OPINION, Braid has better gameplay and is equally as long. Which is what I meant by them being games of similar scale. Wasn't bashing on HS.. was just the shortest game I could think of with pretty much no replay value.
Why are you comparing a 2D platforming XBLA game to a 3D action game. And quite acting like Heavenly Sword was an awful game, it was good and an AAENot when compared to full retail games, they are reviewed on 2 different levels. Do you think Braid or GW2 gets AAA if they come out as full $60 releases??? no Lemmings grasping at straws AGAIN!!!!POJO_MOFOIt wouldn't be priced at $60 if it was released at retail! Stop thinking that every retail game must be $60 or else. $19.99 at most, $14.99 more likely (which should match the Marketplace price in $US). Who cares about price when it's the bottom line "Is it worth it?" is the big measure, the overall score. And an "Is it worth it?" score can be applied universally.
No we shouldnt, they dont have as much content and are scored based on their priceFirstDiscoveryNo, they're scored based on their overall worth. Downlodables can and do beat retail games.
If you must count them, count them like "DLC" vs "DLC" and "retail" vs "retail".
I'm using quotes to signify a difference between the two. You can download Burnout Paradise, Wipeout HD and Warhawk, but they are more like retail games rather than "dlc" games like Braid or Rez.
