Don't need but do want Scorpio 100% X1 BC..... if it's got the powah of the sun. :P

@commander: I feel exactly the same. All those games I'd have to reinstall, play all over again, redownload....just for slightly better graphics? #### you, Sony! Either way they'll support both so no harm done.
Well, I did upgrade all the time with Nintendo handhelds like DSI and New 3DS. After the New 3ds I am not so sure it was worth the upgrade as many games hardly use the C-stick. If these consoles are like that with very little improvements on the hardware, I may skip.
Yet both systems were not capable to run a pc game like crysis.
Ummm, Crysis was ported to both the 360 and PS3.
And to answer your question, its not about if we need them, but if there is an audience interested in more powerful consoles right now, which I can confidently say yes there is.
Assuming the rumors are true, resolution is not enough of a reason to bother upgrading (and clearly not if you don't have a 4K tv). But if the intention is to alter the business model and permit scaling levels of performance, it becomes a viable consideration.
Games aren't going to be native 4K on these new consoles. The new consoles will simply be able to playback 4K movie content. Games will still be 1080p, but with better visuals and frame rates.
Did you see Crysis on the consoles?
The most interesting thing about this question is that people don't read, "Do we really need next gen consoles?" What they actually read is, "Do I need a next gen console?"
If Sony/MS think they can sell them, that's what matters most. I'm not so sure they can. I also wonder if this is in response to the NX.

I don't think the xbox version is running at 720p like this video, I have the xbox version and it doesn't look as good as in this video.
The pc can do higher res than 720p as well. Not to mention the highest settings have to be unlocked in the ini files, which isn't done in this video.

And it was downgraded in almost all aspects.
It doesn't even run on the same engine. I have bought crysis for the pc and the xbox 360. I played crysis on a pc that could max it out. I don't think I have ever seen such a big difference between a console and a pc version, it simply looks a full gen apart.
you can see the differences but it doesn't tell the whole story, the levels are smaller too.
not to mention 'da foliage'
Yeah Crysis really had to gimped to run on 7th gen consoles and it still wasn't enough to keep a stable frame rate.
This video shows the difference pretty well, though it would have been even more noticeable without the video compression on youtube.

The video is 1080p, but that's irrelevant. It's a night and day difference between the console and PC. And, this is without the .ini setting changes and without any extra texture mods.
No we don't. Sony, MS, and Nintendo are just trying to cash in.
Not sure if I can agree on Nintendo...
Though, Neo isn't next-gen in any way, shape, or form in my eyes, and Scorpio is debatable depending on specs.
Yeah I wouldn't call any of those consoles next gen either, they are just small upgrades to the consoles we already have.

I don't know if you can call a 4 times leap in performance a upgrade though. At least if the scorpio rumors are to be believed.

You can also argue that such a jump is far too small to be considered a new generation. Also, there was a bit of misreporting going on with that one. The actual source said 5-6 TFLOPS, not 6.

So basicaly you are saying that it's too soon for a new gen...

I think it's going to depend on if Scorpio requires games to still be playable on XB1 or not. That's my opinion, anyway.

They have to keep games playable on XB1 or it might deter people to go into the xbox eco system.
If sony is supporting the ps4/Neo, and microsoft drops xb1 for scorpio that just looks bad. Microsoft is the ones who said resolution and power doesn't matter and that the xb1 is fine for games it would go against everything microsoft told us about xb1's power. So many xbox one owners might switch to neo if they aren't getting games are treated badly.
