Poll Do you agree that Microsoft can't afford to screw up the release of Starfield? (42 votes)

Yes, fans will lose faith in MS 29%
Nah, they'll be just fine 71%

I really think this is make or break for MS. They have to get this right if they want to be taken seriously and to compete with the big 2. Nintendo handle Mario, Zelda games etc really well. Sony handle GOW, Horizon FW really well. As for MS, it's rumoured a lot of their games currently in development are having internal problems. And Halo Infinite wasn't handled as well as the other 2 platforms handle their flagship titles. But I think MS can really make a statement if they get Starfield right.

So what do you guys think will happen if they screw up Starfield? will it spell disaster for MS? Will they become a laughing stock? a big joke?

I know several people that have bought a Xbox Series X specifically for Starfield: so yes

As a whole though I think the industry in its entirety needs to stop screwing up releases. It's so easy to just wait a few months for a heavily discounted and severly less broken version.

I think Starfield's hype has gone so out of control it's going to be a release like Cyberpunk. People's expectations for this game are so high nobody will be satisfied no matter how great it is. We all know It's going to be a buggy mess when it releases because it's been delayed multiple times, and you know it's because of performance.

That being said, Microsoft will be fine regardless of the outcome. A 2 trillion dollar company isn't going to die on one game. Gamepass is only going to grow, they have PC gaming on point, and last I looked, they sold like, 20 million units compared to Sony's 30 million or something like that. That's really not too bad when you consider your competition is releasing banger after banger and your currently just offering a subscription service for your console.

MS can literally and figuratively afford to screw up many things and many times. It is their schtick.

Starfield is just another game. To act as if this is the breaking point of some kind is well, silly.🤷‍♂️

We’re supposed to be hyped for this game because it‘s a Bethesda game, but there hasn’t been a good Bethesda game in a long time. The trailers didn’t really show what’s fun about it. Regardless, it will be on GamePass so it’s a win win for me 😎

It will be a great System Wars topic. Would enjoy the meltdown especially sticking it to those lems thinking Xbox is going to get better.

... But realistically seems the game looks phenomenal. The shooting mechanics from Fallout 4 is average at best and if they could improve on that it would be atleast a fun open world game. I personally hope the game does good, its been a long list of L from team Xbox for years at this point I kinda pity them. Well no I dont but a W is nice sometimes.

Ghost said multiple times, that it's ok for Bethesda to release broken garbage because the modders will fix it for them. Any more questions?

Xbox fans are the most forgiving group of consumers in the world. They actively run interference for Xbox on social media. For fun. For free. Xbox could cancel Starfield and Lems would be here in force trying to convince you (and themselves) that it’s not a big deal.

Starfield has to at lest score a 9 or a perfect 10 , because if it doesn’t it will be laughing stock of the decade and lems will have to go on full defense mode for the remainder of the xbsex life :(

@worlds_apart: have you seen gamepass? If you have, the answer would be obvious.

Gamepass has been bringing out hits after hits after hits, many of them not even first party.

So if Starfield flops, it will be bad, but not sunken ship. The ship is just too strong.

A game this large will have issues upon release. As long as the game isn't "broken" it'll be all good. Bethesda always releases games with issues, but they are still fun and get patched in decent time.

While I’m very much hyped for Starfield it’s only one game and Microsoft has plenty of other games and franchises that I very much enjoy. If Starfield fails to deliver I’ll be disappointed for sure but I’ll also be fine and so will they.

Microsoft has been delivering great games but I do think they need to get a win when it comes to big budget adventure games. Also being Bethesda I'm curious if this delay will be mostly to work on technical issues with the help from Microsoft.

Whilst I think MS can cope with Starfield being bad I think Uncle Phil will be a goner if it happens.

Which would be funny.

Microsoft bungled a whole console generation. And a lot more. One more game is nothing. Besides, it's not really their game, conceived and greenlighted under MS leadership.

Fallout? Skyrim? It just looks a NoMansSky going with more realistic graphics. Watching the gameplay trailer, the premise is very much NMS.

Whether they can or can't is irrelevant. BGS can never make a good game. MS just have to live with that. Instead of putting Starfield as a major release, they should have asked Id Software to have something.

What we've seen so far really doesn't look very good.

The one thing Bethesda does well is detailed worlds that are fun to explore, maybe not the biggest around but very dense with stuff to see and do that isn't the usual open world copy paste content. Gameplay is usually mediocre at best and their writing/stories/characters tend to be sub-standard.

Starfield is going to be way bigger and it won't be possible for them to add that type of detail/density/variety for most of it. So unless they really up their game with the writing/gameplay side of things I'm expecting a dull, hollow game ala No Mans Sky before it got updated (and honestly, I still find that game dull after all the updates)

Starfiled is an MS joint now? Lol okay.

As long as BGS doesn't **** up the modding, I am confident I will have a ton of fun with the game. If I was able to enjoy FO4 with the awful awful story and characters, I think I will be okay with Starfield.

Everyone talks a lot of shit about BGS games, but we have yet to see another studio do the sandbox RPG at that level. The Outer Worlds? Gimme a break.

It's the entire reason they bought Bethesda and are trying to buy Activision for.

MS straight up FAILED at making games themselves to compete with Sony and Nintendo, there is absolutely no way to deny this. They FAILED HARD at making games themselves and even buying smaller developers to make games for them. Forza is a bright spot, but damn they release that every year and it's a racing game. It's not going to blow minds or anything.

It's getting to the point where MS wants to control distribution of games, like steam, because they obviously can't compete at actually making games. But to be able to do that....they ummmm actually need games....

If you can't beat em buy em

It is not make or break, but Starfield IS the most hyped Microsoft game, no doubt about it. I predict Starfield to score a 9 here on Gamespot. The verdict will be something like "fantastic game, but a series of bugs keeps it from getting a 10".
