Do you care for your games?

I was looking online for games on ebay from being board and found a pretty decent percentage of games were disc only. That means at one point, the owners lost the case and manuals.

Being a gamer for nearly three decades, and I've got to say that I find it difficult to understand how you would lose the box to a game.

Do you keep good care of your games? Do you keep them in the box or in some other disc holder? What do you think when you see game discs left laying around when you go to a friend's home?

Maybe they sell the box separately or do it to save on shipping?

considering 90% of my library is now digital.... not really an issue.

Sure do. Many of them still look new. Bugs me even if a case has a scratch on it or something.

All my games are in perfect condition with the box and manual. The only games that don't have a box are gba and n64 games as thecardboard can get damaged so easily.

Yes I do. I hate it when I see people throwing discs around on a table, sometimes stacking them on top of each other, using them as coasters and such. Then they get mad when the disc fucks up on them.

I do. Still, it's hard to lose track of any in-case content nowadays. All you get is the damn disk, and a couple of cards.

nes and snes games came in crappy boxes and also came on carts of course. so i didnt keep the box for those games. i kept the carts safe though (well i did at the time....i cant remember what happened to them).

since discs came in i have yet to render one unusuable. they are either in the console/PC or in their box. to my shame though i accidentally got a small mark on my windwaker HD disc :(. i dropped the disc!.

games that still come on carts (vita, DS, 3DS) are also stored either in their game case or in my carry case for the handheld when not in use.

I take exceptionally good care of my games. I never leave the disc in the console when it's turned off, I NEVER grab a disc on either of the flat sides (like other people I know do), I never set the disc down on its silver side, I never stack discs, I always grab the game case by the lower OR upper sides, so that I don't get any fingerprints on the front, back, or side-logo. I always stack the cases so that they won't bed or indent at all.

If I drop a case by accident, I freak the hell out.

A couple weeks ago, someone in my family decided to set their cup of soda on top of my Sleeping Dogs case. It left a circle imprint, damn I was irritated.

Same, most of mine are practically in brand new condition including PS One games.

Yep. Game is either in the system or on the shelf in it's case. I'm a little less careful with handheld games, but those also aren't disks.

Well, I put them nicely on the shelf. I put the disc back in the case if I'm done playing it.

Yeah, but "taking care of them" pretty much equates just to using common sense. Even the Intellivision games that I have from my dad have all of their boxes, manuals, and overlays, and they're around 35 years old.

You'd be surprised at how some people store their games. I remember the PS years, people had a loose column of discs by the console.

Personally, I've still got SNES and PS games that are in working order since the day I bought them back in the 1990's.

Yeah those cardboard boxes were crap, I used to just keep them all tucked away and have my GBA games loose. The jewel cases the PS1 games came in were shit as well, they'd crack with barely any force or come apart or the little plastic holders for the disk would break. With the cases now it's pretty much impossible to mess them up so I'm always amazed when I get a used copy and it looks like someone let their dog chew it.

i take excellent care of my disc based games. i won't even loan them to someone unless they've completed the paperwork in triplicate.

All my disc games are still in their original cases

I took great care of my games, but not of their boxes or manuals. The discs were all that mattered to me. The rest took too much space, unless they were close to my heart.

I try not to, they'll just end up hurting me.

The console library I do have is all boxed with manuals(assuming there was manual if I got it pre owned)

most of the time is just that the seller throws the box to the trash. Gamestop does the same thing now when the game's old which is very sad.

sometimes I think used retailers want to save space so they themselves chuck the game cases and manuals and just keep the discs

Yeah, I've always taken care of my games, even back when I was a kid. I've seen a lot of people that lose place their disc based games on hard surfaces, face down & also lose the cases. So it's really not hard to believe that there are a lot of people that lost cases/manuals. Just walk into any gamestop, you'll see a ton of games that are disc only or have replacement casing.

I regret not taking better care of the boxes in the cartridge years. Those things are worth a lot now.

Same, got PS2 games, that are near mint

I have about 300 physical games all in good condition. Only a few are missing things because I bought them used.

Some people don't collect games and or consider this to be their "Hobby".. so of course they don't keep track of the game cases.

That or they don't have the room for a large collection of game cases.

I regrettably did not keep any of my boxes for cartridge games (NES, SNES, N64), but I always kept my disc games in their cases and it great condition.

Now, I pretty much only buy games digitally, so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Yes, absolutely. Especially if they are hard to get.

I keep my games in disc binders. Keeping them in their cases isn't really feasible since they take up so much space.

I'm not really sure of what to do with the cases; I have them in a big bin, but that's running out of room :/

Considering that I was once very avid with my collection I can see where you are coming from and while I'm still very attentive to my own games I live with other gamers and they often lose the case or manuals and it's really a simple explanation.

Life happens, kids, being disorganized, moving, stuff happens and cases get dropped steped on and whatnot. Not everyone pays as much care to their cases and media as others do.

I do care for my games. Given the choice, I ALWAYS save the box and instructions (although recently the instruction manual has become almost completely irrelevant). It's not even to increase their value; I just like having the whole package for my games.

I used to do it to DVD players all the time, and it fucked it up. Made it freeze up all the time.

I care for them like i do all my possessions. My first PS2 game of Smackdown Here comes the pain still plays like it is brand new with minor scratches that don't affect gameplay.

The disc is 11 years old:-P My PS3 games all work without fail too. From Motorstorm which was a launch title to GTA V which doesn't have a single scratch yet despite playing the crap outta it

From personal experience when I was younger. I would stick a disc in and would be too lazy to put it back in the right box. Eventually after doing this with about 10 games I lose the box or put it in the wrong place. ;_;

Yes, gaming's an expensive hobby. If my game's not in the system, it's in its box. I've started to buy extra copies of games I believe will gain value over the years and I keep these wrapped up in packaging and stored away.
