I don't, because i never buy used anyways. I feel icky even thinking about owning a game someone else touched with their dirty, rotten fingers.

On one side, more money in the pockets of developers. One the negative side, no more sharing games with friends.

What do you think?

I do. I still play old consoles (N64, Game Boy family, DS, PS2, GameCube, Wii) and if that went, these next systems would lose quite a good amount of their value (and use).

I always got new games with the exception of a few I borrow from friends..

Should used games get blocked, next-gen i'll just wait and get the games that are not on top of my priority list once they get cheaper...

I think it's a terrible thing to do to consumers if it's true. I'll have no part of it if that happens. People fail to realize that there is much more to this than simply not being able to buy used games, it means you can't share games with friends or family, can't play the game on multiple systems, can't sell your game if it's not good.

I also think consumer confidence in the value of games will go down and make people afraid to spend so much money on games they might end up not liking, and getting stuck with it.

you might not care but all your beloved shops will be gone, do you not realise that the shops what sell the new games keep going due to the second hand game markets more than brand new games they'll be out of business.

Yeah stores like GameStop and any retailer that thrive on selling used games will be effected dramatically, which is a shame but sh!t happens i guess.

To me it won't really bother me that much to be honest, i game on the PC so i'm used to not being able to trade in/buy used games.

It'll be a bummer though, because one thing that made consoles stand out was the fact you could trade your games in and borrow them off your mates etc. But lastly we don't even know if this is confirmed yet i'll be waiting to hear it from the two heavyweights MS and Sony themselves.

If you care about game prices you should care about the second hand market, and the publishers will see the money not he devolpers.

When I worked in a games shop a good third to half of new game sales included trading in old games towards the price of the new.

No, I wouldnt care, id be happy for the developers. Used games are worse than piracy, a used game sale IS a lost sale for the company that owns it. It will also stop companies lending games out that dont belong to them and then charging for it ( ie. rentals ).

Yes because I sell games after I'm finished with them. I've bought probably 200 games this gen but all I have to show for it is MGS HD, Mafia 2, MGS4, Socom 4, Fallout 3, Oblivion and the games I'm playing now which are Fifa 13, Skyrim, DMC and Halo 4. Personally I think it will do more bad for the industry. A lot of people wouldn't buy A or even AA games if they didn't have the option to resell them.

If both console makers lock used games, Im going to buy games later on when they are much cheaper. Like I do most of the time with pc games.

I dont really care because I generally only buy 5 or 6 games a year anyway. I would much rather buy new and support the game developers instead of buying used and supporting a company like Gamestop that totally rips you off on trade ins and pricing of used games anyway.

I typically buy used games when the game in question is no longer in print or hard to come by, so it would affect me in some capacity. As a consumer I'll never advocate for less options even if I rarely take advantage of them.

If they would only block used games I wouldn't care. They're probably also going to block games being used by more accounts in the same family etc. though, and I don't like that part.

Yes, I care. Most of the games released for these consoles aren't worth $60 a pop. Some of the games are average, but still worth a play through. You don't want to have to spend full price on a game that isn't "AAA". Most of these games are only worth $30 or less. So I will get them off of EBay for this price. Play through the game and resell it back on Ebay. With this stupid block in place, gamers won't be able to do this. Developers will actually get LESS MONEY if this happens because of two things. 1) Millions of gamers won't buy these systems. This will mean a lot less game sales. 2) Million of gamers who do buy the systems will be very selective on the games they buy. Only "AAA" type games will be purchased. Which means all those average or good titles will have a lot less sales. Developers will be going bankrupt in 2-3 years unless they continue to support the older systems, which gamers will continue to play. It's really a lose - lose situation for M$ & Sony, Publishers & Developers and gamers if this actually gets implemented. Only hardcore gamers would support the systems and they only make up about 15-20% of the gaming community.

This I can't stand purchasing used games; But I like renting games and I borrow games from friends.

If the N64 blocked used games I would of only played 6 games on my N64; I rented a lot of games and borrowed games from my friends. But because it didn't I got to play more games on the N64.

No, I wouldnt care, id be happy for the developers. Used games are worse than piracy, a used game sale IS a lost sale for the company that owns it. It will also stop companies lending games out that dont belong to them and then charging for it ( ie. rentals ).

pelvist

Don't you realise that many of the stores your'll buy from will go out of business, game rental shops will cease to exist, 1000's will be out of there jobs with no other work to go into, due to the lack of jobs already. no offence but there being greedy, to have a used game means that someone in the first place has bought it new, and it is theres to do what they want with it, if they stop the used games then that is our freedom to sell on what we have bought which makes it that we are pretty much only renting it ourselves, which is greed. the only hingthe should do is charge for the online parts of games, they cannot charge people for playing a second hand offline game.

think about it if they start charging people to have to get activation codes to play the game, then no one will want to buy off someone due to already having to pay another fee on top, which means second hand games will have to come down in price, they need to find a happey medium, otherwise there putting alot of people at risk in losing there jobs.

second hand cars are a massive business, you don't see the main car dealers kicking up a fuss do you. plus second hand games at the moment are ok, seriously back in the days of the amiga or the commadore all it ever was, were copied games, they were on floppy discs and cassettes lol, i don't see why there so bothered now it was worse then.

I don't but used BUT there's certain situations where getting old games is impossible because they only had a few runs of copies. Websites like GoG fix that problem on PC, and Steam has a big back catalogue anyway, so unless every game is available to download day 1 on the next consoles even people that buy every game new will have an issue with it at some point no doubt.

Seeing as I only use consoles now a days for their first party and Japanese games, no. I always, always, always buy my Japanese games NEW. 90% of the time for first party games. but hey? maybe they will sell you a license online for cheaper than a normal license cost, if you already have the disc.

Any time control is shifted from the masses to the "industry", we lose... The music industry controlled every ounce of what types of music were shoved down our throats for decades... now WE have the power to listen to and share anything we choose... notice there is no dominant genre of music anymore? its because WE control our own tastes... not some douche in a suit.  I know it doesn't fully apply to gaming, but as a musician, I fully support the people choosing how they consume and enjoy the entertainment they pay for.

I didn't see people complaining that much when blockbuster was still around about 10 years ago. Who cares though, let the publisher dictate everything we can and cant do with our games.. Cant you see any flaws in what this would do...

As primarily a PC gamers Im already use to what you buy you keep. However if one or both companies use this blocked used games it will affect alot of people's purchasing habits of waiting only a few days or weeks for a $60 game to be $50 and will be more cautious in what they buy since they cant just take it back and get at least some or most of their money back. This will also hurt Gamestop alot and developers and publishers know the impact of what the used game market does to their profits

I don't really care since I have only a marginal interest in the next gen consoles, and I'm not even sure if I'm going to buy one. If blocking used games is something that worries you, then I suggest switching to PC, where you can at least use Steam!

[QUOTE="fueled-system"][QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"]As someone who doesn't engage in the self-destructive used game industry I think its a great thing.tenaka2

Yeah who cares about businesses like redbox and gamefly that would lose tons of money not to mention the employee cuts that would follow from a stupid idea from this. Yeah oh yeah it is a great thing....

Think of the money that would go to its rightful place... the gaming industry.

The game industry will actually lose million (maybe billions) if this actually happens.

I didn't see people complaining that much when blockbuster was still around about 10 years ago. Who cares though, let the publisher dictate everything we can and cant do with our games.. Cant you see any flaws in what this would do...

I get the majority of my games on Steam, it wouldn't be worth the hassle of re-selling a game I paid 5.99 for. Plus having hardcopies aropund is a pain in the ass especially when you move around as much as I do.
