Don't agree. Currently own more Final fantasy games on pc then I do on a playstation. Scratch that I don't even own a playstation.
This is like trying to argue Grand Theft Auto is a Playstation franchise at heart because the series became really popular with GTA III on PS2.
Sony stole FF from Nintendo... That's hardly something I'd consider "a PlayStation franchise at heart". And even then, it wasn't entirely PlayStation exclusive, since the PC got ports of VII, VIII and XI. And then after XII, Sony lost its console exclusivity over FF, and it became a multi-plat franchise.
@FireEmblem_Man: or they just actually preferred the brand stlyle and overall bbc.co image of sony for Years. The same way a russian wud wanna drink vodka in russia before they still wanna drink it in a different country. Dont act like there isnt anything in the world you havent given a subconcious pedered home too. Its not like tc is saying he wuddnt dare play it on another system. That would be a fanboy.
Right now its main focus is Playstation but the franchise didn't originate on Playstation, so no. It's a mixed bag. Their focus changed every gen. MGS (Not MG but MGS) on other hand was PS focused from the start with some ports on other platforms here and there.

Da Fuq are you talking about?
LMAO Really look at that picture fella. It clearly states PlayStation/PlayStation 2/PC. Yes PC is listed in the GOLDEN AGE. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FAIL!!!!
No although I did play Ff7, 8, 9, and 10 on the PS1/PS2 if I remember correctly. They were the most cinematic FF games but I have very fond memories of spending time with FF1 on the NES, FF2 on the SNES I think was probably my favorite(the one with Cecil and the Dragoon).
I will say though that the Playstation 1 helped push FF7 into the mainstream a little more because of its popularity and the CG in FF7 was just amazing at that time. Otherwise, I just consider the whole series multiplatform and I have fond memories of the games and I sometimes get confused on which platform I played them to be honest.
They were the most successful on playstation. Xbox 360 sales were always significantly lower despite its dominance. Imaine how xbone sales will turn out. Not really sure if the sales would be worth it for FFXV and the remake.
WTF? When did the 360 dominate? It never dominated. The Wii Dominated. The 360 brought an arrogant Sony corp back to earth, but it never dominated. Try again.
The FF to Xbox 360 announcement remains one of the greatest megatons in SW history.
And that's only because people considered FF a Sony franchise. It wouldn't be that big of a deal otherwise.

Fanboys these days...
You must be pretty young I guess then, because even before that, Sony gaining exclusivity of FF7 on the PS over the N64 was an even bigger megaton. This was in an age when the internet wasn't even as prevalent as it is today and it was STILL an announcement that shocked gamers everywhere. Even EGM had posted the first images of FF7 with the platform as N64, that's how much of a forgone conclusion it was. Since that was a bigger megaton it is clear that FF was originally a Nintendo franchise at heart.

@cainetao11: That's because two (out of 7) of the games were released on PC. FF7 and FF11 (an MMO). Doesn't change the fact that they were predominantly PlayStation only games.
Yes, it did not start off on Playstation. But it became a mega hit on Playstation. Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, Tactics, and also the ports they brought over to PSX. Then FF10, 11, 12, and now FF7 remake coming to Playstation first. I think it's safe to conclude, after scientific analysis, that Final Fantasy is a Playstation franchise at heart. Agreed?
No, and why the **** would you care?

FF VIII also came out on PC......

Yeah, originally. Now it's PlayStation son... mostly.
@StrifeDelivery: So your anecdotal evidence proves the assertion of the TC true?
The series debuted on a Nintendo platform, was moved to a Sony platform, then came to literally every platform out there.
How many platforms has the original Final Fantasy released on? Like 17?
*looks it up*
18. Holy shit, what a guess.
@foxhound_fox: i didn't know ix is on pc? Maybe with a emulator
If I said 9 I meant 11. Roman numerals are harder to check in a quick skim than integers.

That doesn't change the fact that the picture you posted touting the "Golden Age" defined by SE clearly includes PC. Your the one that tried to use that pic as proof LOL
Final Fantasy is a multiplat franchise. I had VII on PC when it came out and I still remember I had to install multiple patches to get it to work with Windows 95. IX, X and XII are the only exclusive games to Playstation I can think of and I wouldn't be surprised if they go multiplat with a HD coating at some point.

My anecdotal evidence is just that, anecdotal. Considering that the topic question is "Do you consider final fantasy a playstation franchise at heart?", I tried to show that while I have a strong association of FF with PS due to my past experience, that doesn't mean that I consider it a PS franchise, nor that it even is a PS franchise in the first place. TC went onward to say that it is a PS franchise "at heart" due to its popularity and success on the PS systems. That's his position, not mine.
Yes I know it debuted on a Nintendo platform, as well as moving onward with the SNES ( I mentioned that in my post as well as others have in this thread), as well as also being on other platforms (PC for example, also mentioned that in my post). So you're just repeating everything that has already been said.
Nintendo.
Thats where it started and thats where it became popular also the best FF is FF6 and that was originally on the SNES.
But actually its not really a Platfrom specific franchise, it just used to go to the most popular platform apart from 7,8 and 11 which saw pc ports, and now that they cost so much to make,it wll always be Multiplat from now on.
The originals were ported but they were mostly to japanese systems, thats why most of the west wrongly thinks that it used to be a Nintendo exclusive
Final Fantasy was multiplatform even back in the PSX days, FF7 came out for PC, EIDOS published the port. One could argue that the franchise peaked on Playstation no doubnt, but then again some people consider Final Fantasy 6 to be the absolute best in the series and that was for the SNES, i did play FF6 but never finished the game and barely remember anything about it, A huge multiplatform series like Final Fantasy will not be considered a Playstation series by anyone, it's been on so many platforms at this point it'd be pointless to even attempt to back up such a claim.
It's been present on Playstation for the most part ever since the PSX, but it wasn't born there and some could argue that it didn't even reach it's peak on Playstation so, well, that's that.
Yes. Every FF is available on PS. Hell, even SE believe the franchise is associated with PlayStation the most.
This was back when Sony bought into SE and owned shares. Sony has since sold those shares. I really doubt that SE thinks this way now.
No. Hell, Final Fantasy for the better part of its formative years was associated more or less solely with Nintendo. Two of its best games (4 and 6) are what they are because of Nintendo systems (SNES, GBA, DS). FF7 ain't a Sony exclusive, 8 neither, 11 neither. The only PS exclusives in the mainline series are 9, 10 and 12. So no, I wouldn't necessarily agree with you.
Well it was a Nintendo exclusive until FFVI came out ... after that the main serie was a Playstation exclusive ( yeah some title manage to get to PC like VII ) until FFXIII came turning the main serie as a multiplat ... but even to this day it still feel more like home on PS than Nintendo or Xbox just because Sony is the home of the JRPG
