Can't wait for Final Fantasy VII remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 ( Hopefully Sepiroth returns again as games most toughest optional boss ).
Well? :)

I'd have to have played that long enough to at least have met him. Funny enough and I was watching about 15 minutes of a twitch stream of FF7 and man, I just don't get it guys. But by all means enjoy
Can't say I do, then again I've only finished ff6+7 tried some of the later ones but meh, not my cup of tea.

Try it for yourself, FFVII is brilliant but unless you're not into turn based JRPGs at all then there's no point.
I love it alot myself (used to despise it due to the fanboys)
I see of him more as he's the villain in a great game that was probably more celebrated over it's production values for its time, not that the game is particularly great because of him.
I think people underrate Seph these days. For us who played it back in 97 and 98 most of us felt he was in fact the best villain. Even for years when I played FFVIII and IX the villains didn't hold up nor did they in X. Don't get me wrong IX is my favorite of all time but Kuja was no Seph. Kefka is crazier and just plain insane but he doesn't have the depth that Seph had.
Contrary to contrary belief, the dude was pretty formidable antagonist. But he wasn't a fucking nutcase like Kefka, FF's GOAT villain who straight up rules the world halfway through the game.

Sepiroth had no depth before Crisis Core, he was shallow and pretty much lacked motivation. A villain without motivation is a shallow and bad one. Crisis Core pretty much explained what the **** was going on, and I don't think it did much good for sepiroth as a character in the end either way.
Too much spiky hair.
Sephiroth? Spiky hair? he has silky hair doen to his but :P
And god, no, I like him more than I should, even, but I can recognize he's nowhere near the best antagonist. Pagan Min is already like 500 times better than Sephiroth and he doesn't even have much screen time.
Shit no
Not even the best FF antagonist. Kefka wins in a fucking landslide.
FF VII is beyond overrated
He is up there on my list but he isn't the best. I will give credit that he is probably the most iconic in the Final Fantasy series
He's only the most iconic because FF VII was the first JRPG that a lot of the mainstream gaming community ever played.
Kefka was a totally ruthless bastard who had some of the most badass dialogue in videogame history.
No. I love FFVII, but it very hard to argue that Sephiroth is even a good villain, never mind the greatest.
Remember, the real Sephiroth is killed before the game even starts and isn't revived until the very end. Everything that happens in real time in the game, including the "shock" moment, isn't done by Sephiroth at all, but by Hojo's clones.
It kinda takes the greatness away from him, when you realize that all he really did was set a village on fire and get killed by Cloud, sleep for a few years, and then get killed by Cloud again.
Baffles me how people can say Kefka is the best villain XD
I don't get it either. He's pretty much a poor man's Joker.
Also, a lot of people give the usual knee jerk "Sepiroth has mom issues!" response, but that Jenova stuff was what made him interesting.
I'm playing through FFVII right now, and the answer is a big no. He has some cool theme music, but that's about it.
He was a good one and I guess he may most iconic because Final Fantasy became mainstream with 7 and the movie but Kefka was much more interesting but a little cartoony but still he reminds me of the latest version of the Joker : an insane motherfucker.
Also ... to me, Delita, while not a final boss was a very interesting "vilain" as he was nobody and killed everyone until he became the king and even then, he let no one that didn't share his vision alive.

Look up any official list and I'm fairly certain he'll be in the top 5 of any best video game villain list. Just like Darth Vader would rank in the top 3 of any "greatest movie villain of all time" even though I think Vader was a pretty shitty villain, I can at least understand why he scores so highly.
Personally there are many villains I prefer over Seph, even within the FF franchise like for instance Seymour. But probably my favourite villain would be Ocelot.

Not really, Joker and Kefka had far different motivations.
That Jenova stuff made sure FFVII went off its rails.

Won't discuss the Jenova stuff with you since you get pretty obnoxious in these kind of conversations, but Kefka and Joker both have a desire for unbridled chaos and both have a clown-like appearance. They are very similar.
On another note, Kefka is pretty two dimensional. Villains that are just representations of pure evil don't interest me as much as villains that have more complex psychological stuff going on.

No, Joker is about chaos and wanting to get to Batman.....he is personally attached to Batman. Kefka wants to kill everyone and to make everyone believe that life is meaningless. They have far different goals.
Kefka doesn't need to be three dimensional, that doesn't suit the games story, he just needs to be a threat and a counterpart thematically to the two women.
Jenova ruins FFVII in more that just Seph's character, but thematically as well.
