lets just admit it. at one time or another you were playing some game-be it ratchet, or halo, or mario- even tho you completly hated teh game- and were gettting sooo bored of it, and just couldnt overcome the repetiveness- or w/e the case... u STILL forced yourself to keep playing, just for the sake of showing-off, or somewhat.

for some akward reason- i think nintendo would be the best for an example. i just feel like i force myself to play zelda, and metroid, and all those dam puzzle-extra-homework-games.

what 1 of the major 3 companies do you feel could be the most-often, abusers of this fact?

I got that feeling alot while playing Super Mario Galaxy. I was hoping it was Mario's come back. But after beating it in six hours and seeing nothing really new it became aparent that the game was almost as over rated as last year's The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.... Well, at least SMG isn't a port....

Theres a difference between completing and beating a game. Beating it is finishing the main quest. Completing it is wasting more time on a game than you need to, tipically involving dragging on the expererience.

Ibeat the main quest. There was no reason to go back. It's not as if the game would have become significantly better for no reason just because I collected more shiny objects(which is another beef I had. Why does nitendo still need to rely on the archaic shiny object collection quest to make a game?)

Heavenly sword i felt like i kept forcing myself to play it (which is saying alot given its short length). All i could do was hope to get to play as Kai, while just kind of going thru the motions and not enjoying it much as Nariko. I was hyped for this game, but in the end i think the GS score was actually generous given how this game seemed pretty shallow. Especially with comparisons to god of war; these two games compared is like laser tag, versus its a small world ride at disney world. One you have fun running around exploring, killing, etc, and the other one has interesting stuff to look at but your on a single track that gets pretty boring quickly.

Assassin's Creed:
Repetitive -the missions are just fillers adding nothing to the story as you go- and no challenge offered whatsoever.
All flash, no substance.
Still grinded through it just as I did to my teeth in the meantime, not to feel like the 60e was completely wasted.
Didn't change my opinion tho.

Well, I generally don't play games I absolutely hate unless I am doing it to see how crappy games can get (drake of the 99, kabuki warriors, superman64 etc etc) but occasionally I will force myself to finish a game that I got tired of 75% of the way through. The satisfaction of completing it makes up for the "suffering" of having to force myself to play it.

I forced myself to play Superman on the 360 the other day. Lucky for me I got 35% done in 1.5 hours.... Yay. Now I feel like I am going to have to for myself to finish it off since it seems possible to get done in only a few more hours.

I got bored playing the demo for Heavenly Sword and that was like 8 minutes long tops. Throwing junk at people is no substitute for extra powers, weapons, etc. basic things they neglected to put into this game.

Forced myself to play KOTOR for the Xbox. Not for the sake of showing off, but just to see if the reviews lived up to the gameplay. I was wrong. I was hoping for a Zelda type action adventure game, with complete controls, and with few RPG elements. The reviews said it had turn based and real time controls. I thought this game would be tolerable, since I despise Turn-Based controls.

Boy was I wrong. After 1 hour, my blood sugar level droppedby shear boredom.

Assassin's Creed..man this game is so awful, same crap over and over and over again. I just need to finish it so I don't feel stupid I dropped $60 bucks on this game.

Mass Effect..Its ok but the battle system is pretty awful. Can't believe this came from the same people that brought us Gears of War.

All 3 Halos..The game just feels so old school, kinda like Goldeneye 007 for the N64.

Yep.. just the other day with Viva Pinata.. I just wanted to get 1 achievement (ended up getting 2.. yay). Seriously over rated game.

But yeah I guess it happens lots of times, and even in portions of my favorite games. For example in Halo 3 (which I think is a great game), there a parts I just drag myself through that I hate just to get to better parts (mainly because I was trying to play on Legendary with a few skulls.. so I would keep dying at some points and was getting really annoyed with it).

Edit: And as far as the companyt thing.. Microsoft. Because of Achievements.

What's funny is with Bioware games, I seem to force myself for the first 2 hours or so and then somewhere I get hooked like I'm being fed crack.

In terms of games I've forced RECENTLY, Assassin's Creed although, I stopped after a handful of hours which very few games make me do now a days...God what a terrible game *shudder*

um what??? TP has every right to be considered a zelda game. It was great, and reminded me about orcarina of time.

Anyway, back on topic. Hmm, a game I forced myself to play must be Halo. I ended up liking the story, but hating the rest lol. I still play online just cause I think the story is cool.

The Halo series - These games became so tiresome for me because they have you do the exact same thing on each level. It's just shoot, shoot, cover and wait for health to reload, shoot, run to next swarm of baddies, shoot, shoot, etc., etc., boredom. I did beat Halo and Halo 2 but grew very bored with both of them around the halfway point and just ran through the remaining levels. I seriously can't fathom what people love about the Halo games. I also felt forced at times to complete some of the Ratchet games. They aren't as repetitive as Halo but they essentially follow a very similar formula of shoot, shoot, blam, boom, jump, cutscene, jump, jump, BOOM! It's a lot of fun but it's frustrating that almost every planet in the game is like this, and I eventually got tired of it.

I do that with a lot of games and beat it just for the sake of beating it, especially if it is a hard game.

Last game I genuinely forced myself to play was Twilight Princess. Far too much of the same and the pacing was always a miss, not a hit.

Phantom Hourglass I put down completely. I'm not doing that BS Temple of the Ocean King AGAIN. Only made it halfway through the game.

All of Halo 2. I only finished the thing's story mode because I spent 34 bucks on it and wanted to be prepared for Halo 3 story mode, which was substantially more interesting to me.

First, let me say, SMG is a fantastic game, imo, and TP is one of my favorite games in the series.

I don't finish games if I hate them.

Here is my list of games I hate, but feel pressured into loving by friends:

Beyond Good and Evil

Grand Theft Auto

Fallout 2

Shin Megami Tensai: Noctourne

Baulder's Gate

Dark Cloud 2

These games are highly touted from various sources for being great and fantastic and revolutionary. However, I disagree completely, and therefore have the balls to go where no other poster in this topic has dared to go.

It is nothing short of herrasy to call Fallout 2, BG, or BGandE bad games, and I have stepped over that line.

The pathetic fanboy mentions of games like Twilight Princess, SMG, MGS, and Halo 3 pretty much tells me you've played so few games, and most likely only the highest rated and mainstream topics, that I have no choice to deduce that you are amongst the 90 percent of casual gamers that visit these, among all else, anti-Nintendo forums.

Play a lot of games, ALOT, then there are bound to be some really highly rated ones that will actually make people listen to you when you say you didn't like them. Then your opinion will be listened too, instead of waved off as fanboy rhetoric. Pfft, Assassin's Creed, game much before last month, you boarderline n00bs?

I believe many of the complaints about Twilight Princess are about things that hardcore fans of the series enjoy and applause.

The only significant criticism from any paid reviewer is that the series hasn't evolved.

The Japanese audience doesn't want the game to evolve. I don't want the game to evolve, and a whole lot of people don't want the game to evolve.

I loved it just like it was, and for some reason, adding voice acting or a leveling systems seems like it would screw game game up, more than it would help it.

Sorry, that's just my opinion.

That said, the game is still as critically acclaimed as anyone should expect, won GotY on Xplay, and many other sites, and the only reviewer, singluar, with the gall to actually call Nintendo on the non-evolution of Zelda, was Gurstman, who is now fired, and it turns out that giving Twilight Princess a less than perfect score was his biggest claim to fame, and has made him the hero of Lemmings, Hermits, and Cows everywhere.

It's a fact that most of the people who hate on the game, have never finished, or even played it. Same for Halo 3. The few who actually didn't like it after finishing it are one of three things:

A. Very poor at recognizing quality in a game.

B. Influenced and emboldened by the gamespot review.

C. Twitch-shooter hyperactive gamers who dislike the genre already.

Taking this series and all of its games for granted is a shame, but its the cost you pay for bringing gaming to the mainstream.

Probably bioshock is my number one for this right now. Ive had it two months and im probably not even half way through yet. Sure, then environments are gorgeous, but one you've seen one areayou've pretty much seen them all. The big daddy fights are the only fun part in the game so far, but when the ammo is so limited and you have to beat it to death with a wrench, it loses its appeal somewhat. Its not a bad game, but, like assassins creed, its not what everyone is making it out to be.

You know, I have sometimes wondered if the GS review blinded some people into thinking it was too much of the same. While your word isn't 100% true (it can't really be proven, anyways) it makes sense to me.

The music, while orchestrated and something new would have been nice, never bothered me that it was MIDI. Only a few times did I felt that I was playing OoT, not through the entire game like some people make it out. If anything, it was a great taste of nostalgia and created an even more fine-tuned experience with a great story, though it didn't end the way I wanted it to but that's okay.

On topic, a game I forced myself to play could be... was Metroid Prime for a while. Great experience and amazing visuals, but for a while in the beginning of the game I couldn't feel it and just forced myself to play it.

Well I have was a huge HUGE fan of Final Fantasy games. I started with IV and was always looking forward to the next installment. Then it happened, FFX and I shook hands. Amazing intro and I thought I was in for some amazing experience. I was so wrong. After about 6 hours into the game I was forcing myself to play it until it was over. I was in fact trying to rush through the game. I thought FFX-2 would be different but it was even worse. I forced myself to play that one too. I rememer there was a time when it was interesting to do sidequests in FF games, like killing the Hidon, battling Ozma, etc.

On the other hand, the opposite has also happened. I remember I started playing The Legend of Zelda TP on the Wii. I forced myself to play it. It was a Zelda game after all. After about 20 hours into the game when I had a lot of gear I started to love it and the feeling remained there. It's just too bad you usually use the gear you find in one specific level and then forget all about it.

All 3 Halos..The game just feels so old school, kinda like Goldeneye 007 for the N64.

degeneraz

Yeah, damn Epic for messing up Mass Effect:roll:

I rushed through Halo 3, because I didn't have a ton of time to beat it, and wanted to get through the campaign before I went online. The campaign definitely wasn't good enough to rush through, and at times, was a bit of a chore. It definitely wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough for me to play it for as long stretches of time as I was.

Something similar happened with Twilight Princess, where I wanted to keep playing until I found the Master Sword, and it was much farther away than I had expected. The game was good, and I definitely enjoyed it, but that part wasn't as good because I wanted to finish with it quickly and it wouldn't end that fast.

Usually, if a game is boring me, I'm perfectly willing to put it down and walk away, so it's only when I'm trying to play a game more than I'd normally want that this becomes an issue for me.
