What's next? Blu Ray support? I hope so, the quality isn't worth the often +$10 more than the DVD version.

What else could they possibly remove... Hmm... WiFi being built in I guess. Cows would have a conniption.

Downloadables only I guess.
If Blu Ray support was removed people wouldn't be able to run their own games. USB ports, SD card slots, Linux support and in a very small degree, BC, were considered by many users expensable features if thats what it taked to reduce the price of the Ps3 and make it affordable, now the system is quite affordable and still offers a great value for what you get out of the Box. Its a shame linux support was removed but Pirates were taking advantage of it, Im still convinced to this day, that Sony removed BC with Ps2 games to push Ps3 software sales not to reduce costs.
Are you suggesting that they will remove even more features? The PS3 is fine as it is right now. They shouldn't take away anything.

So are YOU saying the PS3 wasn't fine when it launched? That Sony is justified in taking away features?
I don't see how removing OS support will reduce the cost of the console. Didn't they remove it for safety issues?xsubtownerxIf by "safety concerns" you mean that Sony didn't want people pirating their games, then yes, they removed it for "safety concerns."
Linux was removed to avoid hacking, even though apparently you can still use Linux somehow after the patch.
BC was taken out to lower the manufacturing price so they could drop the price.
USB ports were removed so they could drop the price
What's the point of a memory card reader when it doesn't have BC?
And you think they would take away blu-ray? That would be kind of useless to sell a console that doesn't even play its own games

The PS3 has advanced a lot since it was launched

Anything to make it cheaper to produce.

If by advance you mean downgrade...

Sony removed features I wouldn't utilise and achieved a reasonable price in return. I wish they had just kept the PlayStation 3 a single SKU, however, and had just relied on improving, cheaper hardware as well as software to regain losses.

And, guess what, it worked. Secondary Objective accomplished then, bigger revenue comes from Ps3 software sales or else the entire point of the console is moot.
PS3 would become cheaper if they removed hardware from it, and the only part of the hardware they could remove now is the built-in WiFi.
Now, people have complained about the removal of "install other OS" option... who even installed that???

Scroll down a bit to the PS3 news. ;)
depending on how sony perceives the GO! we might see a ps3 w/ no blu-ray...jrhawk42
That would be sweet. If Sony get digital distribution right by not overpricing the hardware, causing people to falsely believe that digital distribution is made of fail, then I am all for it.

Well I guess if a 360 slim comes out and as rumored removes the memory card slots we will see no flack about it from cows huh?
Wouldnt bet on it yet they can explain away the removal of more than one feature as nothing. Watch I say.:)

You really didn't think this through in my opinion. Digital downloads are not a complete let alone viable solution. You do not own the full disc and the way some companies handle their downloads, you'd spend 30 bucks to re-download a 5 dollar item.
lol id feel bad for new ps3 owners if they did indeed take out wifi -remember the 20 gig didnt even have that
so it pretty much be like the 20 gig minus all the readers and bc and linux support
, and thus would make 360 just cost as much
[QUOTE="AgentA-Mi6"][QUOTE="DarkLink77"] Good for them, bad for the consumer.DarkLink77No. Bad in what way? The general concensus is that overfeaturing lead to overpricing, expendable features were removed for affordability and the pursuit of other goals, we have now that conclusion of a process and its called Ps3 Slim the console is selling now better than ever before if thats not success and proof that now the consumer is satisfied, I don't know what is. Because Sony is taking away features. As the gen goes on, I don't expect the consoles I buy to lose features. If anything, they should gain them. Sure, it's cheaper, but the console is worse. Like buying a cheaper computer. Sure, you pay less, but there's less there. If Sony has to remove features and drop the price and be competitive, they clearly didn't build their machine right the first time. Indeed they didn't the consumer voted with their wallets, they didn't want a 600$ Ps3, they wanted the core features of the system but not all the extra stuff, the original 60GB Ps3 I own was had too many features and was too expensive for the average gamer. The Ps3 Slim is a great value for 299$, it was necessary to drop the price at the expense of a few extra features.
PS3 should drop off -$20Ratchet_Fan8Yeah it should drop off to anywhere around 10 to 30$, with SD card readers, 4 USB ports, Full BC, an instruction booklet on how to pirate Ps3 games using yellow dog linux  :P I Know the loss of Linux support was bad, but the Ps3 is the biggest success in terms of low piracy rates for a console and I want it to be kept that way.
Maybe, but their decisions are questionable. I mean, the Sixaxis over BC? Whose idea was that?DarkLink77What are you talking about? The Sixaxis has absolutely nothing to do with the decision to remove BC.
What are you talking about? The Sixaxis has absolutely nothing to do with the decision to remove BC. Yeah, but I bet the Sixaxis cost a good amount of money to develop and manufacture in the controllers. I would have rather had them remove the Sixaxis than BC.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]Maybe, but their decisions are questionable. I mean, the Sixaxis over BC? Whose idea was that?AgentA-Mi6
PS3, it only USED to do everything!Other expensible features could include WiFi. Too late for BR obviuosly.

I had to sell my PS3 because they removed the OS feature. I just didn't want it anymore.aaronmullanMine's on eBay as we speak. Sexybeast225 is the highest bidder so far!

That is absolutely false dude, Sony's biggest investments were the Cell processor and the Blu Ray disc format, The controller was the least of Sony's expenses, on what are you basing to claim that Development and Manufacture of Sixaxis controllers was more expensive than the E.E chip old Ps3 models had, besides didn't sony replace the Sixaxis with the DS3 wich is more expensive due to the inclusion of rumble? The consumer wanted Rumble back and here it is despite the higher cost (five dollars more lol).[QUOTE="DarkLink77"]Maybe, but their decisions are questionable. I mean, the Sixaxis over BC?
