Hell no. Quite a few of my favorite characters are female. In games where I choose between Male and Female characters, I pick female most of the time (the only game where I don't really choose a female character is Pokemon, mainly because there's not that big a difference between the two character wise).

Not at all. I admit, I rarely choose a female character being given the option, but I have no problem playing as them.

So your blaming the characters for being aimed towards children, in a game not aimed for children? I guess you should blame Sega for selling this game to children as well, lets ignore the parents or parties responsible for selling this game Illegally none the less to minors? Don't blame the crack dealer, blame the crack.

I don't have much of a problem playing female characters in video games (Portal, Metroid, Bayonetta), in RPGs, I tend to lean toward playing males because I rather play as a character that's my avatar in the world. The only time I ever played a female character in a RPG is in Dragon Age Origins City Elf.

The best one was and always will be Lara Croft ...from the older games anyway, since the changeover she has become a typical symbol of female independence poster-girl...

I can't stand any female MC who spouts one liners either and that's why I tend to avoid games with female MCs.

I don't mind at all if the main character is female. In some fighting games it depends of the strength of the characters, if a girl is powerful or it is easy for me to use her then I will use her.

Deliberately misspelling words and adding in poor grammar simply makes posts more difficult to read. Its not just bad spelling and grammar, but poor sentence structure too.

If given the option I'd rather play as a male. But I have no problem playing as a female character. Bayonetta was a breath of fresh air.

I theres an option to choose gender, I generally choose male. I don't know why but something just feels wierd if I personally choose female over male, especially in Mass Effect. But some of my favorite gaming characters are female, ie: Samus, Terra (FF6), Jade from BGAE, Jill Valentine from Resident Evil 1, to name a few. :)

Well, there is a chance that not everybody has the ability to decipher forum speak, especially when it is worded as poorly as some. Is the few extra seconds spent typing simply too much to ask? I guess so. However, if some forum members dont approve of it, then theyre bound to pick up on it.

nope. if i have a choice then i generally choose a male character since the character is my presence in the world. one exception to that is dungeon siege..dont know why but im always compelled to create a female character. maybe the marketing got to me :S. but overall whether the player character is male or female has no bearing on my purchasing decisions.

YES! BECAUSE I AM A MAN! :/ Seriously some of the best roles in video games are female; Samus Aaron, Laura Craft, Alex Rovias, Sarah Kerrigan, Joanna Dark, Jade, Heather Morris, Princess Zelda, Yuna, and so.

lets be honest PS3 owners, in uncharted, you choose Chloe for the ass too. but yeah, usualy i'll opt for a male player in something like an RPG such as pokemon, but i have no issue playing as a chick if the guy charecter looks retarded (again, like pokemon)

You have to be retarded to have a problem playing a game as a female character. seriously there is no other ways to put it

planbfreak4eva

i dont like playin with bayonetta, she is some ho and its a game thats trying to sell sex to kids...i dont mind playing with the one from heavenly sword or uncharted, but bayonetta girl just makes me disgusted

# of people it was even implied bayonetta had sex with in game? anybody? im pretty sure it was zero.

personally i found her to be awesome and hilarious over any of the 'omg im a grrl but im totally tough grr' or silent protagonist types. she had actual personality, which i know can be intimidating, especially if you dont talk to real girls

on topic its irrelevant, i would play as an anthromorphic toaster if the gameplay was good

If your going to insist on having poor typing skills on any forum, get used to the fact people can and will point it out for you on a next to daily basis. A few mistakes and some misplaced grammar here and there is one thing, but intentionally leaving out letters and skipping words is just plain hard to read and people who are not as used to the "net speak" where you is u and Oh my god I got to go to the store is OMGIGTGTTS! If your willing to type that way fine, just don't get sore when someone points it out. On another note, I doubt you should really be caring about how fast you post, if anything learning proper typing skills can do nothing but good for you as where as forming bad habitual typing like that can only do you harm. ...well that was off-topic so allow me to rerail this train. You have still yet to reply as to why Bayonetta is sold to kids, should I state that Grand Theft Auto is sold to children as well because millions of them play it? No I shouldn't. I could say Children should not be playing GTA and point the finger at those whose enabled these minors who have no legal ground to purchase a game rated above their age group, you could also propose a solution to the issue instead of pulling a Jack Thompson and point fingers where they don't belong.

I usually find a female main character easier to like than a male one, too often the male lead character tries to hard to be "the man".

True. And I also like the girls better because they are usually fast and agile characters compared to the men.

Depends on her personality. I do not like characters like Lightening who try to be all stoic. I prefer female leads like Silent Hill 3's lead, The Longest Journey's lead, and Parasite Eve's lead.

Female protagonists are often the best of play. Julie Strain, Cate Archer, Lara Croft to name a few.

I resist making a female in my MMOs because that is just not honest even though I know it is hard to tell who is really who sometimes.

Eventually you will be able to tell and I have uncovered several "female impersonators" in the course of my games.

I don't mind playing as female lead, the character just has to be nice. Samus is great, so is Heather from silent hill 3. I also like most girls in fighting games. When it comes to rpg, I tend to choose male though.

Typical symbol of female independence? Lara Croft is still a sex symbol, and is still aimed at male players. Personally, I would argue for more strong, independent female leads. There simply arent enough. If that is a turn off for guys that like breasts and ass, well, tough. Women shouldnt be portrayed exclusively as that. Im sure if developers created female leads as often as they created male ones, and offered female experiences that arent dressed in the trappings of stereotypes, they would open up the market for "hardcore" videogames to the other half of the population.

In Tomb Raider 1 she had an almost amazing ambition to acquire whatever it was humans weren't meant to wield. She had an interesting lifestyle and classy background... generally she was an interesting character. When it came to cutscenes she would seem almost sporting about having competition in an albeit flirty sort of way. Look at what happens when the new devs take over... I am glad they revamped the series but they turned her into a slightly naive, inexperienced explorer... I would have no problem with that if it didn't seem out of character from the first game.

I just don't like that "I can do it too" vibe I get from some female MCs... A main character shouldn't act like they have something to prove.

Nope, not at all. However, if they look really good, ala Tomb Raider or Final Fantasy XIII, they can distract me a bit from gameplay. :P

I dont like to play with female character and Lightning(FF13) just gets so much on my nerves that i barely can play game :)

I generally prefer playing a female character in most games, I tend to care more about the character when it's a female. I think people that feel awkward about playing a female character is because they tend to identify themselves to the character they are playing in games, which isn't something i do.

Not at all, I don't mind playing with a male character or female, I have no preference for either.

I love the Metroid series and Samus is cool, Zelda is my best character in the Smash Bros games (in Brawl anyways), I've used female characters in fighting games before, whether it be Chun Li from Street Fighter, Taki from Soul calibur, or Litchi or Noel from Blazblue.

And Bayonetta is great too, and is not just "some ho." She does have a personality, and an awesome and humorous one at that, and also she can take care of herself quite fine and is very powerful. She also has a deep story behind her as well.

This is just pathetic... What's wrong playing as a female in a video game?
