Sometimes i feel that cursing in video games is just plain unnecessary and tasteless, theres no shock value anymore in language. Sometimes the cursing impedes me from enjoying a single player experience (Killzone 2). How do you feel?

Cursing in games has never been overkill, sure it's tasteless but it's a lot worse irl obviously. Now games like the Batman Arkham games that have no cursing at all, and still manage to be violent and creepy, those are good examples to follow.
When used sparingly and with the right characters, "swear" words are invaluable tools for a writer to showcase stronger emotions within a character. What do you think shows more anger? A character screaming "Ah, crap!" or "F*CK!"
Of course Gamespot doesn't allow such evil language, but you get my point. So yes, I do like stronger language when not overused and used to show things "normal" words cannot.

Fvck yeah I do, sh1t!
Swearing works especially well in war games as it fits the situations very well. Bulletstorm also made good use of a lot of words, often to in very funny ways.
Cursing just for the sake of cursing and trying to sound cool is stupid. Cursing that fits with a character, or situation is fine.

This!
I don't have problems with cursing, but if its overused,or used to impress a certain age group, then it feels tasteless...
If used sparingly by NPC's, sure. I don't mind especially if the game NPC's are heavily armed grunts.
What I can't stand is:
2. Kiddie gamers who curse in every other sentence out of their mouth.
2. Forumers here wasting time putting potty mouth stuff in their posts when there's no need for it. Cursing is usually spontaneous. There's nothing spontaneous about typing up a post.
There was a time when I cared but that was years ago when I had to turn down the volume so my parents wouldn't hear the cursing.
Nowadays I couldn't care less.
I personally don't approve of cursing anywhere, but I can tolerate it in certain games. These FPS games where someone curses every 30 seconds is outrageous
Yes, yes I do like cursing. I curse a lot as well and why would you not like cursing in video games? It makes things realistic. What do you want them to say in Killzone for example?
"Oh woe is me, I see my comrades get mowed down by a giant laser; I simply cannot help but to feel anger and despair as their last crimson red petals fall down upon the muddy ground that have withstood the storms of this giant rainy planet. Woe is me."
A bunch of douchebags are killing your comrades and trying to end your life, of course you swear.

Mhmm.
People curse in real life (especially in stressful situations) so it feels more realistic to me. If aliens attacked or the zombie apocalypse happened would you be saying things like "fiddlesticks" or "fudge it"?
Don't get me wrong; I think it can be overdone if it doesn't fit the situation or character.
Yeah I think games over board with cursing pushing the limits too much. It is unnecessaryand disgraceful and grotesque. Just give me my FPS games with killingonly no swearing ...
If it's stupid cursing ala Killzone 2 then yeah it's idiotic and trying to sound awesome. But if it's like CJ from San Andreas then it's great because that's how real people talk. If Nathan Drake were real he would swear an awful lot more than his PG13 "craps" every 5 seconds
Like a lot of things, all depends on how it's implemented. When overdone (as in every third word) you can tell it's just gratuitious profanity and basically trying too hard to add "realism", which it defeats. But in measured doses and in the right context, it adds authenticity to certain character archetypes and situational tones.
I don't mind cursing until it goes overboard. It's fine in wargames since your getting shot at. What would you say if you got shot in the foot...multiple times?
Don't really care. I didn't mind it in Killzone 2 either; I guess it made some sense for the soldiers to have a foul mouth in a warzone.
saying a word is a forbidden word is far more of a crime
Any word used out of it meaning or OVER USED is the only bad part of any word in a video game or movie or even in real life
Depends on the game and the context.
I'm going to be really surprised if a military shooter doesn't have at least some cursing but at the same time I would be a bit shocked if a Nintendo game or something similar had even a single curse word. It's a non issue to me either way.
its actually appropriate imo. not everyone talks without cussing just as not everyone cusses all the time...but its there. In a game like Conker it's cool because it's funny:

In most other games it's just lame and tryhard.
Duke Nukem was funny too (before they made him a lame parody of himself).
But from the more "serious" games I think the Max Payne and GTA series have done a good job with profanity while not appearing tryhard and, yes, "kiddy".
