Troll? Or serial?

Because if serious, you are an idiot. Over 60 million people died fighting in World War II (more than any other war since, combined) and fought in some of the most tactically creative and elegant battles in the history of warfare. It is one of the most interesting periods of human warfare history and the technological advancement made in those 6 short years was astronomically huge.

Tanks alone went from basically armored trucks with machine guns to full on modern tanks in that time.

great, doesn't change the fact that the weapons and vehicles are fucking garbage and not fun to use in games.

Because running around pissing bullets everywhere is so much more fun than lining up a 300 yard headshot with an unscoped bolt action rifle across the map.

So you like pissing bullets? The MG42 puts out bullets faster than all modern machine guns (up to 1500 rpm) and it was designed and fielded during WWII. It's still used by the modern German army (as the MG3).

It was and is one of the most devastating machine guns ever created by human beings. It could rip bodies in half.

If there's anything WW2 I miss in games, it's WW2 flight sims, particularly a successor to Combat Flight Simulator 2.

Actually I do have that nostalgic feeling for some WW2 games but looking back at the saturation of WWII in all forms of media, I'm kind of glad that we're out of that phase.

I would like to see an MGS game based around WW2 with The Boss and her gang (I forgot the name). If you're familiar with the MGS games, you'll understand.

So, now console generations are defined by Playstation? hehehehe...

If "we" (the US) hadn't entered the war when we did, the UK would have fallen the next year. With a single front to fight, Germany would have had the resources to (especially since their supply boats would be sunk) to finish off the Soviet Union.

So yes, the USA did save everyone's ass in WW2.

Back to the topic at hand - I'd like to see a gritty WW2 game now and again.

Personally, I'd rather see more WW2 flying games Or just, in general, flying games. We have no shortage of shooters; still over-saturated.

lol, america used a 2 defeated civilian towns to test the atomic bomb on them. Russia are the ones who took over Germany, forced them to surrender, and made Hitler kill himself in a hole. They also had the most casualties.

I used to think America won it too until I learned about the true history of that war.

Did Russia defeat Japan or something?

@mikehockbourns, I don't know what crack-pot history teacher told you that, but he/she is wrong. That's not at all how things went down in WW2. I'd be happy to correct your misinformation in a PM.

Well two of my most played games of the last couple years are CoH2 and Red Orchestra 2. So while I don't necessarily miss them, I am certainly not bored of them. For FPS games I think the weaponry is a lot more interesting than in modern shooters, you actually need to choose between range/firepower instead of having assault rifles that are useful at all ranges.

I think its a much more interesting setting than the vast majority of Modern or near-future FPS games. I would like to see some of the other 20th century wars used though just for a change of pace.

I think a RO2 style Vietnam game could be pretty amazing, they could take some ideas from the Japanese in RO2 to represent Guerrila tactics, the US could have napalm strikes. That would be pretty awesome.

Unless they are going to make a open world non linear WW2 game i'll pass. Few weeks ago i played COD World at War again and its so linear and scripted, its not fun and too linear like all the other COD games, i want some freedom.

You can't make an interesting or creative story with World War 2. We all know who lost WW2, and we all know the tragic events surrounding the war. Making another WW2 shooter would be a step backward for everything.

If movie companies can make good movies about WW2, game developers can make good games about the era, regardless of who won or lost.

I agree, but not if they're shooters. You can't get super creative with such a well known historic setting.

I absolutely love WWII and am completely fascinated by pretty much anything related to this era. One of the most significant events in human history and by far the largest of all wars.

Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List are two of my all time favourite movies, and Fury was pretty damn cool too. Not to mention Band of Brothers, one of my favourite series of all time.

I want a proper high budget WWII game again, really miss the genre.

I am still burnt out on them. It seems like there was a time when every shooter was a WWII shooter.

You mean just like EVERY single shooter during the PS3-era used to be modern shooter? And now in this gen, the PS4-era every single shooter seems to be sci-fi.

Never liked sci-fi, I liked modern shooters but not after Cod4, MW2, MW3, Black Ops, MoH, BF3, BF4 etc..

@Heil68: And what of that 7 year gap? Wolfenstein brought about the revolution of the first person shooter, not the WWII era first person shooter. Medal of Honor was the reason WWII shooters were a thing.

Another (probable) reason was the release of Saving Private Ryan the previous year with particular interest in the Normandy landings. It was prominent in both Medal of Honor and Battlefield 1942. Cash-in galore. There was also a brief glut of WW2 flight sims at around the same time.

I want to see an FPS game that featured more of the Pacific Theater, particularly the jungle fighting at Guadalcanal. Most FPS games that had featured the Pacific Theater so far, have seemed more like the European Theater with a little more brush. I want to see thick jungle and really dark nights where hearing sound cues becomes very important.

Developers can get pointers from the STALKER games.

Did you ever play MoH: Pacific Assault? I vaguely remember that being more than just the Euro theater "with a little more brush". :P

Been at least 10 years since I played it though.

I'm getting this urge to go back through the MoH games now. *scratches chin*

Sadly, no. By the time that game released, I was in a pleasant stupor with BF1942. I guess Pacific Assault did have a lot of vegetation. But, I was thinking more of Crysis-level density or even denser.

Come to think of it.....The last WW2 shooter I played was BF 1942 and only up to 2004. Once I modded it with Desert Combat, I never went back to the WW2 part.

The last time I bought any (new) WW2 game was also back in 2004. I bought Ubisoft's Pacific Fighters (PC flight sim). I haven't bought anything WW2 since then.

So, yeah. It's time for a new WW2 shooter. I'm tired of the European Theater and Eastern Front though. Time for some Pacific island-hopping (Nimitz) and leapfrogging (MacArthur) campaigns.

Edit:

Actually, I bought IL2: Cliffs of Dover (PC flight sim) back in 2011. Not a shooter though.

Or some Africa.

Maybe some singleplayer (or co-operative singleplayer), semi-sim, first person tank combat game? Maybe with a MP mode that does armored infantry combat right.

Or some Africa.

Maybe some singleplayer (or co-operative singleplayer), semi-sim, first person tank combat game? Maybe with a MP mode that does armored infantry combat right.

I watched the movie Fury not too long ago. A tank-based shooter based from that time period would be okay. At least, the Western Allies had Sherman Fireflies as well as dedicated tank destroyers by that time.

If someone goes and makes a co-op SP tank combat sim, they'll need to cover most of the important battles of all theatres of the war. So there won't be any worries about what tanks there would be.

I miss PC WW2 games sure, but if they are just going to be what Call of Duty is, but WORLD WAR TWO, then no thank you.

Exactly. I'll take a WW2 shooter in the vein of Operation Flashpoint (not the crap by codemasters)

Not some bs linear corridor shooter on rails, with all this incredibly scripted gameplay.

Hell even the Brothers in Arms games were incline over the 'CoD formula'.

I like to hit and retreat versus going toe to toe against superior tanks. So, a good speedy tank destroyer such as the M18 Hellcat would be my choice.
