Sometimes I like to read the prologue, or about the characters, but it's rare. Usually I don't bother.

Every time I buy a game, the first thing I do is look through the manual and read things that interest me.... Then I commence gaming.

I hate how skimpy they've become. The Saboteur was like 5 pages:|

I always read them. I don't know why, I usually know how to play the game anyways because of a demo or because it's a sequel, but I just do anyways. MGS has awesome manuals, especially 3.

If its a fighting game yeah cause it normally has the special move lists but otherwise no. Manuals are just far less entertaining nowa days. Man I remember the old Spyro manuals, those things were worth reading just for art and other info. Now it's just thrown together, no effort or flare, might as well not waste the trees.

Yes, I normally buy a game, open it, and read the manual before I get home, and before I start the game of course.

I like reading the prologue and looking at all of the artwork. I am playing Metroid Prime Trilogy, and on top of a game manual, Retro/Nintendo also a small art booklet included with the game! =]

Your poll sucks. I couldn't vote. I would have voted "sometimes' if that option was in the poll. It depends on the game.

Sometimes I read manuals right away once I get a new game especially if I am in a car and someone else is driving. And other times I just skim the manual before playing, and other times I ignore the manual then read it later if I get board. Though the nice thing about manuals they useally have something that the tutorials left out. (quick thing off of the top of my head in kingdom hearts triangle tells party members to attack your target, and it was only stated in the booklet) I love when the booklets have comedy or extra story background in it.

Yep a lot of games I get require me to read the manual, but it starts getting a bit annoying when the manuals hit 50+ pages.

You mean I'm the only one that uses the pet cat? :o!

Yeah, not to learn how to play, I just like to read them. The good manuals usually have bonus plot/character information, artwork, or some other extras. But some publishers are lazy and just scramble together like 5 pages in BW. :/

Slashkice
Exactly what he said word for word and I also like to read them while on the john like forza420 and greengoblin2099.

When I was a lot younger I used to read every game manual I had, nowadays I rarely read any of them. The only manual that I read post N64 era was the Fifa 09 one for PS3, just because I wanted to know how to do tricks and make all the different shots. Even then I only read like a page or two though.

Yes, but usually only if there's any effort put into it. Rare's manuals always were pure gold, for example. Leigh Loveday is my hero.

The only real good manuals are WRPG manuals, like The Witcher or the old Baldur's Gate manuals.
