I already have with Xbox One, which I use for exclusives and current gen multiplats. I've yet to do this entirely with systems I only use for exclusives, like my Switch, the 3DS, or PS4, and Wii U which I don't really buy much of anything on anymore.
With Nintendo, I worry about rights retention issues so I haven't made the jump, with Sony it's concerns about online security of my private of my payment information.
Since I game on my Xbox One mostly, digital is a major convenience in game management. With a 2TB external attached, I can have a hefty amount of titles installed and having everything o it keeps the OS running smooth by keeping the main HDD clear. On top of that, I haven't had to fuss with the troublesome XB1 disc installation process, games install hassle free by download, and since it's all handled in the background, I can play my other XB1 installed titles while I wait. And it really doesn't take long now with my current ISP speeds, even the meatiest of titles can come as quickly as two hours. On a game launch day for instance, since games on the west coast are available at 9pm, I can have the game way before the midnight launch event of big titles. It goes without saying too, as a big purchaser of gaming media, it's nice not to have all that clutter in my room.
It's really nice too in the digital library management it breaks the games up between games I own that are installed, and games I own that are ready for download. I like this approach, it reminds me much of how Steam works, showing your library and differentiating between what's in your library and what's on your system. I hope the other companies take note of this. Haven't much experience on PS4, I know Nintendo use to do a download history approach, much like Xbox 360 had, I don't like this as it mixes EVERYTHING you downloaded, including videos, demos, etc. I don't like that.
It would be nice on library management end to have folders on the Xbox One. I'd like to have on just to queue up games on my blacklist I want to tackle, I've over 300 games in my digital library now on my XB1 and it's kind of getting too large to look through without overlooking stuff. It would also be nice to create a wishlist for myself to remember games that interest me but I don't want to spend the money right away to pick up, might even serve purpose in notifying me if the games go on sale either through sale special, price cut, or deals with gold promotion. Or if I find myself wanting something new but can't remember what in the past I want to play I can revisit my wishlist and take my pick. Plus, given that they just added gifting, it might make for a useful feature on that end.
My only real gripe with digital is pricing. For new games it's no issue for me, it's $60 at store or digitally. I also get 10% back through XBL Rewards as a end of the month rebate on my purchases, so money saved there. I also save about 10% in taxes buying digitally, so for those concerned about wanting to sell your games back to GameStop for a mere pittance, consider the savings I'm getting are well above what most games will go for when you sell them later, considering you're not the kind of person to sell games a couple weeks after you pay full price for them. I keep my games for years before I sell them so yeah, I come out ahead on digital purchase, and I retain my games which is most important.
The real issue with pricing is when game prices of physical media drop drastically after release, digital games though rarely see the same savings except through occasional opportunistic sales, but overall take much more time to drop in price. Because of this, I try to take advantage of sales of games I want should they ever arise. It would be nice though to see a more proactive approach by MS to get competitive pricing on the digital space better compared to pricing of PC services like Steam. Furthermore, I feel DLC pricing really needs to be addressed, especially as MSRP fluctuates. Season pass prices might be fine up front and early on, but as a game starts to age, that price should drop. And when there's sales of games that include the DLC bundled with the game, they need to offer the DLC at a discount for those that already have the games because we're getting screwed over there big time.
