Do you still use "dinosaur" technology like 56k and SDTV?

[QUOTE="comeonthehoops"]Yeah, I have a SDTV. I don't really see much point in upgrading, I could use the money for much better things.TheSterls

So let me get this straight? Your posting in a gaming forum so you obviously like games . Why in the hell is a HDTV not one of your higher priorites. If you have kids to feed are something sure I understand but as far as gaming goes I dont think I could go back to an SDTV.

Because gaming is about, you know....game play? Not how awesome your graphics are. You act like games no longer work on SDTV's.

i've got my 360 and PS3 hooked up to a 26" samsung tube-tv

it doesn't really bother me anyways except when i try to play Dead Rising, but other than that i'm only playing Demon's Souls and Darksiders on the PS3 and neither of those really benefit from HD resolutions

i do have 4 bluray movies tho, so sometimes i lug my ps3 down to our 52" hdtv which we use mostly for watching tv and sports and rarely ever watch movies on it (hence why it's not hooked up)... bluray looks fantastic but games really don't take advantage of it, even GT5p is kinda irritating to play because despite being able to play it in 1080p there's only 2xAA being processed so it just makes it look like ass but more noticeable

I don't have any SDTV's, but most of my TV's don't have cable boxes (So cable TV is still in SD).

I really don't mind it. I even break out my Gameboy Color every once in a while, but I get tired of it after a month because of replacing batteries, and the speakers don't work anymore.

Edit:

And as for internet... I can never go back.

One mans idea of really cheap isn't the same as anothers. Really cheap to me would be 50-100 dollars.

I have never seen an HDTV in stores for less than 500$ and usually averaging around a grand.

Well, we bought our 50" Samsung for about a grand.

If you're looking for cheap 1080p, look for something like this: $240 CAD

I'm using it for my PC right now, but it does has HDMI. I tried it with my ps3 and it works fine.

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=1069177351J&vpn=E2400HD&manufacture=BENQ

Also, you could go even cheaper and get this 1080p 21.5", but imo 21.5" is just too small for gaming: $170 CAD

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236053&nm_mc=OTC-Pr1c3canadaCA&cm_mmc=OTC-Pr1c3canadaCA-_-Monitors+-+LCD+Flat+Panel-_-ASUS-_-24236053

When it comes to 1080p, that's pretty cheap.

Well, I don't know if I'd call it dinosaur, but I game on a six year old 1080i TV. I think the picture looks pretty good, so I see no reason to upgrade anytime soon. Unfortunately, every once in a while the TV whacks out and green lines travel up the screen. That can get annoying.

I couldn't go back to dial up. The internet isn't designed that way anymore. A video ad or a blog with pictures would bring your connection to a grinding halt. I've got a HDTV but I don't have any problem with SDTVs. I'd never buy one under any circumstances but if I goto somebody's house and they have a SDTV i'm not all, "I can't even watch this."

The difference is actually huge. I've been playing PS3 and 360 on an HDTV for years now. I recently tried to play with a buddy on a tube tv. Good God!! It was horrible. It looked so downgraded. I never really noticed the difference until I went back down to SD. What a difference!!

To be honest, the difference is actually quite large. Not that playing on an SDTV is bad, due to the core experience being the same.

However take FFXIII as an example:

I have an SDTV, because 1) I'm in college and thus poor, and 2) HDTVs are extremly expensive.

Gamelova79
I have seen 32" hdtv's for $299. They are not that expensive.

Yeah HDTV's are the norm now and not that expensive. A 22inch probably cost around 100$ downgrading you're probably only saving yourself 50 bucks.

I've been HD and Online since Dreamcast! :o

Glad people are catching up, it's been a decade, I used to be the minority around here.

I remember being excited when the PS2 released and there were official component cables released for the PS2!

That was a console first people forget about. Great memories.

I do have dinosaur technology though, as I have a TV in my bathroom, and it's SD. It's little though. I can't miss my shows!

SolidTy

Didnt an HDTV cost like 40,000 dollars back then??? You must be rich.

It doesn't take an awesome job. We're not talking about a $300,000 house....Maybe a $500 hdtv? Cut your spending on useless things and you would be suprised how much you can save. Save 10 bucks a week and there's your hdtv this time next year. :D

how is that even possible any content would look better if it was made in HD as opposed to SD. More pixels means more detail and better looking.

well there are ways to make old consoles(technology wise so that includes the wii) play in HD and look amazing doing so :D no way in hell they would be better played in SD.

Fuuny stuff. Most people in SW use SD but we get all these "graphicz kings" topics. lol any way I use HD and High Speed. I could not go back to SD. I feel as if I have tunnel vision when I look at them now.chaoz-king

I was thinking the same thing, lots of graphic king arguements and it seems like everyone is still usind SD tv's, games still look good on SD's but there sure is a lot of Tech talk in this forum and not enough tech equipment.

I had a 13" SD, a 42" and 32" HDTV. I kept the 13" sd so I could watch sports while playing games on the 42". :D

If you have kids to feed are something sure I understand but as far as gaming goes I dont think I could go back to an SDTV.

my kids need to eat too, but god damn it they need HD as well :P

I dont think I could ever go back. I have to have a fast internet connection and love my gorgeous HDTV. Plenty of others do not care of what they have.

Do you use SDTV and 56k modems?

Revan_911

Do you still use dinosaur technology like the 360? Oh yes i went there.

Boo this man!

Because gaming is about, you know....game play? Not how awesome your graphics are. You act like games no longer work on SDTV's.

He thinks that anyone with a SDTV is some kind of lesser being, he doesn't realize that the difference between SDTV and HDTV is minimal in gaming.

To be honest, the difference is actually quite large. Not that playing on an SDTV is bad, due to the core experience being the same.

However take FFXIII as an example:

I was eating as I looked at this and the blurry ones actually made me feel a little sick. Weird.
