Gaming isn't serious overall. It's fun.LustForSoulWell, the term didn't mean it that way. Perhaps, "legitimate" is better?
[QUOTE="SakusEnvoy"]Nope, the DS still hasn't passed the PS2 in hardware sales. You might want to check again ps2 is number 2 now. http://www.vgchartz.com/hardware_totals.php Sorry but, VGChartz isn't a legitimate source of hardware sales information. In fact, VGChartz is so infamous for its inaccuracies that people usually react to any mention of it with "lol vgchartz".[QUOTE="p4s2p0"] What are you talking about ds is the highest selling console of all time beating all home consoles, and psp sold more than ps3, it is taken seriously.
I only play psp and soon vita these days

Only the official shipment numbers, directly from the manufacturers, tell the real story. Sony announced the PS2 passed 150 million shipments early this year (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-02-14-playstation-2-ships-over-150-million). It has since shipped 2.6 million units between January-June 2011 (http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps2_sale_e.html).
The DS has shipped a little over 147 million units through the end of June 2011. (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/library/historical_data/pdf/consolidated_sales_e1106.pdf)
We're still waiting for the new hardware sales numbers through to the end of September 2011, but it's unlikely the DS will come anywhere near passing the PS2 yet.
Aside from point and play games, I don't think you can play easily any other genres there.
I'd rather have a 3DS and PSV.
Nope I will never take the mobile games seriously. I have a 4th gen itouch with lots of games but the only time i play it is when im waiting in between classes for school, waiting for my food to arrive at a restraunt, waiting on my girlfirend when she takes forever to change, wating on... you get the point. I dont set time aside to play ios games i just use them as quickies to burn time while Im doing something i dont want to do(i.e. angry birds is a fun distraction). When it comes to my xbox, pc , or ps3 I actually choose to play and make time out of my daily scheduale to just squeeze in that extra half hour for frags, leveling, or to just find out whats going to happen within the games story.
and lol @ Gameloft being a good company. they have ripped off most of this generations games.Crazyguy105I love how 'hardcoar' gamers like to froth over their games despite how the controls never really translate well compared to smaller and more intuitive casual titles. I dont really take it seriously, heck I dont take gaming seriously; but I dont think Mobile games could compare for the most part; but there are some good stuff in there that offer content that is appropriately proportional to the value of the game on offer.

Gottcha that is still a close race.I did in high school ... looking back I can't belive all that money I wasted on those freaking iphone games.

Can't possibly be more than you blew on the actual phone service itself?
It has potential. Look at Infinity Blade, that game is pretty amazing all things considered. I've honestly invested more time in that $6 app than I have in quite a few games I've payed $60 on just because of long car rides. So I see potential. Problem is mobile games generate no hype. Isn't that why we're here? The hype is part of the fun! People who game just to game don't come here, so I don't think we will ever take mobile gaming seriously on a forum.
That being said, the best dollar/time ratio of any game I've ever played is probably Tiny Wings. I've sunk probably over 10 hours of my life into that game and I've never played a single game for 600 hours so....

Gottcha that is still a close race.Holy Christ. I would be quite happy to see the PS2 stay number one! Come on 3DS, start selling!!!
Not yet but i see phone gaming gaining ground on dedicated handhelds in the near future and perhaps totally replacing the need for a dedicated handheld much like smartphones killed the pda while it chips away at small point and shoot digital cams and dedicated mp3 players. Maybe not in next gen but perhaps even as soon as 2 gens from now. Ask again in 6 years TC and you will see a change of tune from me as well as others :)eNT1TY
6 years? I think thats a bit too much time with the way the smartphone/tablet world is moving. I don't see the vita/3ds surpassing their predecessors and it will get worse with each iteration(people don't want to carry around multiple devices, see pmp,pda etc...).
I don't think dedicated handheld will go away, but it wont be as mainstream as it once was.
*raises flameshield* because I know some peeps are way to defensive over plastic.
Mobile gaming has its place, but its just not all that exciting to me. I hardly consider mobile gaming as a option, in general. I tried to get into my Iphone with some games, but really, they just are not up to standard. Generally the games are a waste of money for me, even if they are cheap, because i cant stand playing them for very long. Its the controls, quite simply. It is not fun fiddling with touch screen controls for most games. Also of note, the battery life on my phone just is not up to the task of playing games for any reasonable length of time.

Mobile gaming is a joke. It's used for nothing more than a distraction while waiting for a Dr's appointment, or waiting at the airport.
I see no point in any handheld gaming devices. In fact, I think they draw talent and funds away from developers when they could be spending that time and money on more worthwhile ventures.
But that's just my opinion of course.
