At least for exclusives. Maybe 1080p/45fps for multi-plats. 30fps would be a disgrace imo...

I do. Nintnendo already stated that the Wii U will do exactly that. And that being the first of the next gen consoles I would say yes, all future consoles will do that standard.
No. 1080p(less too if history repeats) logically but most will probably stick with 30fps because you get better graphics that way and the longer the consoles gen goes on the harder it'd be to keep up with 60fps.SparkyProtocolI'm sure all of Nintendo's games will be at 60 FPS because they have had a lot of games at 60 FPS. F-Zero X on the N64 was their first 60 FPS game.
All the developers have to do is not try to make the game look the best it could because the more developers focus on Graphics the more we will be seeing 30 FPS games.
If they try for Performance we will see 60 FPS games that still look great.
I don't know. I think its disappointing to see developers focus on graphical fidelity over framerate and I don't know why it wasn't the case last generation. I expect games to get to a point where they can be deemed "good enough". When we won't see jaggies, textures won't pop in, ect. When that day comes, I hope we see 60fps games instead of a minor increase in graphics that won't be as noticable.
Propably something like 1400x1080 or some other fake 1080p like that, 30 fps standard with some games running at 60 fps.
Definitely not. They will opt for textures and such. 60 FPS will not be standard on consoles, but always on my PC :).
Nah it'll 950p as the standard. and at 60fps i guess.JohnF111This but I'm seeing games running at 30 FPS with a few 60FPS exceptions.
720p with FXAA or MLAA or something better at 30fps should be the standard next-gen if there is still sub-hd games or games with bad or no AA it will be disappointing. Console being limited hardware you can squeeze more graphics by lowering resolution to 720p and aiming for 30fps instead of going for 60fps at 1080p or even 720p. Having a half decent AA method and 720p as a minimum will help alot toward improving the average image quality of consoles games which for the most part is not very good on big 1080p HDTV. For the foreseeable future if you want to play all your games at resolution at or above 1080p at 60+fps with AA and AF you will need a gaming PC. Once t.v's move on to 4K resolution I expect to the see the jump to 1080p as a standard on consoles won' t be for at least another gen if not 2 t.v's need to get bigger and cheaper first 60" would needsto be considered on the small side.
Nah it'll 950p as the standard. and at 60fps i guess.JohnF1111920x950, as in anamorphic widescreen? I doubt it. Unless games were upscaled vertically to 1080p. I'd be okay with that. Motorstorm Apocalypse has a native resolutin of 1280x1080 and it looked really good in 1080p. I thought it was native 1920x1080 the first time I played the demo. I also thought that was the reason they went with 30fps
1080p will. There's absolutely no reason why it won't be.
60fps though, no. Most Developers will continue to run games at 30fps to make games as detailed as possible. I think there may be more 60fps games than this gen, but we'll see.
Honestly all I want is the same core graphics we have this gen but in 1080p, that'd be great.
EDIT: 30fps is just fine, btw.
How about 720p and 60 fps!! You do realize that we are what 6 years into this generation and the vast majority of games still dont run at true 720p native. Nor are they hitting 60 fps.
doubt it.... I dont thinkdevelopers would want to sacrifice all thoseresources just for a higher res, when they can do so much more at 720p. Plus HDTV's scale very well to 720p. I have no doubt they could run todays games quite easily at 1080p, but graphics will only get better as the years go by. And 720p would be would be a wise chice for the close hardware nature of the console, if devs would want to get the most out of them.

I agree. I believe that Native 1080p would be the next standard for gaming, NOT 3D. After all, HD has just became the standard about last year, & we haven't even gotten a lot of games in Native 1080p for both 360 or for PS3.
no and I hope to god they don't even try, this is a generation we saw them struggle with 720p and 60fps I would rather they try to go for 720p standard next gen where its actually doable instead of 1080p...
Yep, then 3 years in the PC crowd will complain about how consoles aren't 120fps at 200000p or something, so when the next wave of consoles come out consoles are back on top for a bit, then it starts over and blah blah blah. That's assuming they follow this generation's pattern, but they could move towards more or less complextiy in their design that could significantly impact the gold standard for graphics and frame rate in console games.

3d is a useless gimmick and should die. :P
lmao why are people underrestimating the technology jump that will be between current and future consoles. It WILL be comparable if not greater than the jump from ps2-ps3.
Doing 1080p and 60fps requires a surprisingly large increase in performance, and we don't really know how much of a leap in power Sony and MS are going to go for.
If the leap isn't that big it would mean that games would look much like the games of today, but simply have a higher graphical fidelity. If they want games to be 1080p/60fps and reach new graphical standards in other areas too (geometry, physics, textures, effects, etc.) it would require a very significant jump in performance over and above what we have today.
Personally, I would be very happy if Microsoft or Sony set down some standards next generation for games on their platforms. For example, I don't think any game should ever have screen tearing, period. Games should also have at least a decent amount of anti-aliasing. Beyond that it would be nice if games ran at 60fps, but if they could at least maintain a solid 30fps it wouldn't be too bad. 1080p is also very desirable because many of us have 1080p displays that aren't being taken advantage of by console games, and those games can even look bad on many displays due to the upscaling.
I think developers should just consider these things as their parameters. Whatever they want to do with their game they have to first check all of those boxes, then they can move forward and design the game within those parameters. There is really no excuse. Not all games have screen tearing, so obviously it is just a design decision. The PS2 was vastly weaker than today's hardware, yet screen tearing was extremely rare. It's only this generation that we have suddenly had so many issues with image quality. The graphics themselves are much more advanced, yet the image quality is very often cringe-worthy.
Whichever console maker puts forth more of these kinds of standards (like the way MS made achievements a universal standard for the 360) will get my money.
I think it would depend entirely upon the game.
30fps would be a disgrace imo...

I never understood this - movies and TV are shot at 24fps.
either 720p 60fps, or 1080p 30fps sounds likely considering most games dont even run at 720p and most games run at 30fps this gen.

Movies and TVarn't controlled by the person watching them.
Edit: grammer fail
nah i don't think it will be standard next gen certainly rare on WiiU, but 720/PS4 should be able to manage a decent amount of games but they wont be the best looking. 1080p @30 frames will be fine for most games, and would people stop comparing current tech to next gen consoles they will be using stuff that is not even available on pc right now therefor being more advanced(except WiiU)
