I mean what with the 360 and PS3 having older tech they could probably one up them and release their console at a lower price?
Does anyone think a major company like Samsung, Google, or Apple even would try to do this?

No the console market is packed to the brim with three consoles and considering that all three of them have a solid foot in the market, I doubt any will be leaving or joinging any time soon.
I see Sega returning to hardware as being more likely than anyone new stepping in. And since Sega has a snowball's chance in hell of ever returning, i would put everything else slightly below "snowball's chance in hell" i guess.
i hope a console comes out and keepts it strictly for core gamers since MS and sony going to wii route for next gen
Potentially someone (like Apple) could attempt it but I doubt they would get very far. All the bases are pretty much covered by Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and the PC when it comes to games, heck OnLive is having a hard time finding its place in the market but then again that has a terrible price model right now. The console market is more than likely a no go since third party developers are already busy working with the current generation platforms and would no doubt be weary of backing a new system with higher specs since that would close the multiplatform door and they would be taking a gamble on a company with no proven track record. If anything I could see someone else attempting to throw their hat into the hand held market but with the 3DS making such a mighty appearance and rumblings of a PSP2, again this is a market that is already spoken for and doesn't have much room for another company. It would take quite abit to see someone else break into the market and they would have to time it out with the start of a new generation of hardware that way they could garner some third party support and come out at a time when people are looking to spend money. Right now most of us out there aren't looking to plop down money on a new system since this generation is still going on and we have alot to look forward to with what we currently have. Plus I don't think technology has progressed far enough to bring in a new console that could blow the 360 and PS3 out of the water (IE make it worth while to get) AND not break the bank at the same time. So in short, my answer is no, I don't think anyone will attempt to break into the market anytime soon. At most we could see Microsoft launch a handheld but I doubt that will happen anytime soon with their focus on Kinect and the 360 platform.kejigoto
Who are you thinking will enter the handhelds, Microsoft?

They've made several comments about it before, so I think they might. Then again they have their new Windows Mobile 7 platform that makes use of Live and that could have been what they were talking about. If anything we'll hear about it next year at E3 since they are focused on Kinect right now, plus that might give them a chance to steal some of Sony's thunder if they choose to announce the PSP2 at the same time. Otherwise I think things will stay as they are with Nintendo dominating the handheld sector and Sony coming in second with Apple sitting there with their illusions of grandeur.[QUOTE="Androvinus"]i think apple is silently waiting for their chance to pounce. they have a huge mass of sheepish followers, so i think if they were to release a console that wasnt very good, they would get insane sales with it.3XRatedlocc
If you're not a conspiracy theorist you're probably a sheep yourself.. or a n*gga who think he a sheep.
I sense something horribly wrong here.
Nope, the economy is bad and the industry cannot support 4 consoles at the same time.
Apple will without even trying. They will release some new version of the ipad or some other new device, and devs will line up to develop for it even if it isn't the device's main function. I could see Apple doing something like that in the main console market too, releasing a computer that is meant for multimedia combined with ease of use and will naturally be targetted by devs.GunSmith1_basicapple has computers now, and no one is lining up to dev for them. It's known as a barren wasteland for games.

Right now, Apple has a big problem in the compture realm: high price and inferior performance. Imo their prices will collapse one day and then they will have everything in common to a console philosophy
nope, all 3 that is already making systems are doing too well. it would be to risky for someone new to start up now with these 3 out. even ms with a unlimited bank roll waited for sega to go under before they brought out its system.
Apple's MacBook Pro includes NVIDIA Geforce GT330M (48 CUDA processors) which should be enough to smack a gimped RSX.Doubt it apple wont stand a chance in the console market after all, all their consumers care about the giant apple logo to show off with it outside home so consoles are no good for them but maybe portable gaming thats something else.

It's kinda like jean companies that charge 3x the price they should, people buy them BECAUSE they are expensive. say you cut apples prices in half, they'd still be overpriced, but not by alot, people wouldn't see it as the cool thing, or status symbol they do now, and sales would decline.

It's PC gaming server with a web front-end. VMWARE can support multiple Virtual Machines with Direct3D support.I thought we already kinda got a new competitor, OnLive haha :D

Agreed, I don't want a cheap Macbook!
I don't think Apple will try for a console, with so much invested with the iPhone and iPod. They have a cash cow and with the recent troubles of the iPhone 4, I don't think they'll put a lot of money into something very risky. With the economy still struggling, it's too big of a risk.
The market is already full with three consoles and there have been declining software sales for awhile.

This consumer behavior is known as "snob appeal," or "conspicuous consumption." Certain products are priced high because they appeal to people who think that buying expensive things will "enhanced" their social status. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft do not produce products to appeal to such demographics.

There you go.. in all techno jargon even! :)There won't be a new gaming competitor until one of the three current ones drops out. 3 companies are only sustaining because the Wii struck a cord with a very different audience. Three similiar systems would result in a massive failure for one, or dismal results for all three.
