playing both halo 4 and blops 2 right now and holy crap..the auto-aim in those games are more pronounced than ever. the devs aren't even trying to mask it anymore, nowadays its more like 'you suck, so let me aim this for you' :?

but then again, when I played battlefield 3 on pc with no auto-aim I was consistently getting my ass handed to me..so I don't know how I feel about this. auto aim gives some players a chance at least :|

I don't like it, but I feel like I need it now for analog sticks after using the Wii Remote so much.

Yes. I turn it off when I have the option to do so.

I also hate it when games force it on you, like Halo and COD.

You're playing with a gamepad. You will need autoaim or some other form of aim assist not to suck. That's just the nature of the beast.

Whether it's larger hit boxes, AI that doesn't move as much, less AI on screen at the same time, various levels of aim assist/ autolock, something has to be done, otherwise peopel would get frustrated right quick.

Also console shooters with gamepads = tank simulators.

FACT.

I have played BF3 on my PC with a 360 controller. I am decent at the game on both systems, but let me tell you that you will lose every time with a controller and zero auto aim.

It's aim-assist; not auto-aim, and no I don't think it's an insult to my intelligience.

Even if I was the smartest person on earth thumbsticks would not be as precise as a mouse.

I can understand liking or disliking it... but how anyone could see it as an insult to their intelligence is beyond me. An insult o my hand-eye coordination perhaps?Personally I don't give a damn, I don't play games to prove anything to anyone, I play them to amuse myself.

You don't need to be intelligent to aim with a gamepad:?

Auto aim is pretty much required though, analog sticks just aren't as precise as a mouse. Mice are very easy to aim thus no aim assist whereas it's quite tricky to be accurate with a controller.

You could turn it off given the option but you'd get slaughtered, especially in MP.

No that isn't a fact, just personal preferences. I for one play better on controllers with resistant sticks over a weightless mouse. It gives a proper sense of feeling due to that resistance that sticks provide. The triggers also add to this compared to a silly CLICK. As for autoaim, some might need it, i rarely notice it in Halo 4...i think the TC is overexaggerating the effects, IMO.

Analog sticks are outdated for shooters.

Maybe touch screens will improve the console shooter experience (if explored that is).

The aim assist in Halo 4 drives me insane. It was never as bad as it was in Bungies games. Because in Bungies game it didn't mess you up when you have to deal with multiple targets in front of you, in 4 I'll be shooting one guy, and then bam it suddenly jumps my sight to the dude next to him(who is nowhere near getting killed now). It's f*cking infuriating. Either that or since I've been playing less console shooters, and more PC stuff that I never noticed the aim assist as much as I do now.

Yeah, I think certain console games do a good job of a subtle aim assist without holding your hand throughout the experience. Uncharted was one of those, if I remember correctly.

Yeah.

Halo 4 is an example of aim assist going crazy. I also hate the CoD method of aim assist.

Agreed. I concern myself with enjoyment rather than very minor and rather superficial things.

Besides, I have yet to play a PC game that has auto-aim.

Sticky aim can be aggrivating. For instance, sometimes when I'm about to pull off a headshot in Halo 4, another enemy will run in front of the crosshair and sticky aim pulls the crosshair over to nothing...

I feel it helps when using game pads, but games like cod use it too much. Like when you press aim and you move to aim at someone you were barely looking at. Or when someone runs past and your character actually turns like 30 degrees following them.

There are some situations where aim assist made the game harder for me. Such as in Fallout 3.

But nah, Auto Aim is not an insult to my intelligence, and I can see why console games have them. But I really hate it when it is on PC games.

Actually, I take that back. I am insulted by auto-aim in games these days, everytime I play a game and have auto-aim turned on I always start losing brain cells and IQ points that I can't even remember what 1+1 is. Thank god for no auto-aim games; just yesterday I played a rousing round of Team Fortress 2 in which I had contemplated over the idea of creationism and the higgs boson while I unloaded shotgun shells into an enemy spy's face.

For controllers its basically a must. You will miss MANY shots without it, I guarantee you.

Probably why console gamers of a shooter that decided to try out the PC version of them get creamed sort of hard :P. That's not related though :P.

It's a necessary evil because of Internet lag, but it's a detremit as well. I could have my crosshairs on a guy ready to pull the trigger, his buddy runs across and now because of auto-aim the gun tracks him. I shoot and give away my position. Now I got TWO guys I gotta deal with now.

Halo 4's isnt to bad (I guess). I get the feeling that the aim asisst just moves the reticle to the head.

I'm pretty certain Halo 4 uses the same system as the previous Halo games which is something called "angled magnetism". It gives the feeling of a stronger lock on someone the closer your reticle is to them (like a magnet).

If you are aiming near someone's head it won't lock onto their head, but it will resist slight movement away from their body, and this allows you to be more precise. It's not giving guaranteed headshots though.

In console MP games, everyone has the same amount so it's not an advantage or anything. Also, Halo 4 has almost no aim-assist compared to Halo 2, the series has come a long way in refining since then. Plus, it's gamepads are not as precise as mice, obviously. We used to have some crazy SW battles about PC gamers dissing on consolites for needing aim-assist when they didn't. HELLO, a gaming mouse compared to a gamepad in terms of aiming precision is like an tournament level compound bow compared to a recurve.

I always turn the aim assists off Completely if i can in any shooter, takes away the skill and despite what people think Controllers are OK for FPS without aim assists if you persist, unfortunately you cannot get rid of the sticky aim in Halo which is a bit annoying, is it an insult to my intelligence? No definitly not, it caters to gamers from all skill levels, if you don't like it and have the option not to use it then don't.
