Some games are actually worth the $60, but very few IMO. I almost never buy games at full price, one the last ones I did was SW: Battlefront a couple years ago and look how that turned out LOL. I did end up loving this game. But not really until I got the season pass. Those who waited just one year and got the ultimate edition for $10 got a great deal. Those like me that bought it at launch basically got scammed.

The big publishers have apparently gone mental. The irony is because of all the loot box crap and limited and held-back content, their games are now among the LEAST likely to be worth the full $60 at launch. They are basically just packing on "free to play" type structure into games they somehow want to charge $60 for. I don't think those things are really compatible.

Games are cheaper now than during the NES era, if a game is worth X amount of money is a matter of opinion not fact. Now, if gamers are cheap ia also a matter of opinion, for us that gamed during the era of the Arcade gaming could become an expensive hobby, that was until you became good and master one game.

That's actually not true though, unless we are factoring in "inflation". But remember back then it was the cartridges that were expensive. The game and marketing budget were actually less than the cartridge itself.

Nowadays, to manufacture extra units is a small nominal cost. Which is why they literally produce mountains of games. The problem is they've let development costs get out of control (when the benefits of those costs are not always seen with better games). Also marketing costs are taking massive chunks out of this as well, Call of Duty is basically a marketing scheme at this point.

I haven't bought a game for more than... hmm... I think $20 CAD in the past 4-5 years.

I'm cheap because I don't have much of a gaming budget, so I don't buy stuff at full price because I can't really afford it. Which means I don't often see stuff until 1-2 years after it releases. And that's fine with me, I'm still catching up on my backlog.

Yeah me too. I haven't paid full $92 CAD for any games at all and always wait for them to go down in prices.

I rarely pay $60 for a game. Imo, only a few games like The Witcher and Some on line games with months and months of replayability are worth full price. Another thing to remember is very few games are $60 anymore with locked out or available DLC on launch day.

@2Chalupas: back then you went and paid 70, 80 or 90 dollars for a cartridge, now you go and pay 50, 60dollars for a disc, where the goddam game was stored doesn’t matter, what you pay is what counts.

Come to Canada where you can spend $90 on a new game. Lately I've been buying my new games off of Kijiji. One day one you can find people selling the game sealed for $70.

I would think most gamers don't actually buy games at full prices. There are so many options to buy a game at a discount even before it comes out. And then you have people who will wait no matter what for the game to be cheaper. Doesn't matter if they think it's worth it or not. You have kids/teenagers who don't have money, so they wait for their parents to buy it for them. Then you have college kids who say they are broke, and just pirate games. So that leaves the adults with jobs. Those people who will buy the game if they think it's worth it. Some are willing to spend a lot more than others. Some end up having kids, and don't have as much time to play games.

So where do you fit in all of this, SW? Do you pay the full price tag for games? Can you justify the price?

games are cheap, so are gamers, i get it as a teen where maybe you work part time or don't work. Or maybe when in college, but after becoming an adult nobody should bitch about a game. even at 100 dollars games are cheap. perspective

movie for 4 plus popcorn and soda 100+ dollars , 2 hours of entertainment

Round of golf for 2 and a couple bloody marys 150+ dollars, 4-5 hours entertainment

Dinner for 4 around 100 bucks at a decent place, 40-50 at a fast food place

Nice dinner for 2 100+

Bowling for 4 a couple of games plus show rental 60+ bucks, 2 hours of entertainment.

Now video game 60 bucks play it as much as you want whenever you want many play 100+ hours in a game. realistically even a 5 hour SP only game is worth 60 bucks compared to other avenues of entertainment. hell even buying a movie is 20-25 bucks on BD and it's 2 hours compared to the 100+ of games

At this point, for the majority of them, no. We keep getting told how expensive games are, how much longer they are. but I find the gameplay itself is rarely good enough to justify the investment. Especially "cin-ma-tic" games. Evil Within felt like work to the point, didn't want to finish it.

Nintendo games? Gladfully drop $$$ for the majority, majority of Sony and Microsoft titles? Happily ignore them.
