Will about 28% of Americans have a HDTV. Alot of people I talked to have different opinions on it some say that there is no difference your just watching Television and, other will die for a HDTV.
What do you think would you spend $1500.00 on a TV?

I just bought an HDTV and I have to say that it really doesn't make a great difference to me.
The biggest difference to me was going from analog to digital signals for TV programming.

Last gen, nah.
This gen, no, but almost. (If you're going to blow $400-$600 on a console, don't cheap out on your choice of output)
Next gen, more than likely.Â
I have two hdtv's in my house. I cant imagine not having one.Videodogg
Im trying to buy another one also for myself only :?Â

I do have a HDTV a Panasonic Tau 53inch 1080i :P
To me HD pictures are only about 10% better than a good standard signal. I think if people spent more time on perfecting what we have instead of always trying to make something new we would be better off...But this is just my opinion...TrustCo1971

always trying to make something new? you still reeling from that big switch to color tv?Â

I know that was some rubbish attempt at sarcasm, but you really cant compare the switch from colour to the change from STV to HDTV - the differences and benefits arent as obvious.
The way some people talk about new technology on this board, they sound like theyre employed by the local electronics manufacturer. The fact is, at this moment in time, HD has little benefit to the average consumer, but plenty of bragging value for tech junkies.
Before I had one I said "pfft, big deal", but now, no kidding, it rocks. Don't even worry about getting a next gen dvd player upgrade your cable to HD and you will enjoy it. Games are the icing on the cake.Riverwolf007

27" 720p LCD HDTV - $500 January 2007
Spherex 5.1 surround system - $200 April 2007
Where's the $1500 number you're pulling? It's absolutely worth it - there's no going back. Hook up a PC running emulators via VGA @1024x768 for all your old (4:3) games, hook up an Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii at 480p or 720p via component or hdmi for all your new games. I have a DVD player hooked up via component set to 480p widescreen, and use an optical cable to get digital surround. It's absolutely awesome.
I'm in college, and earned the money for everything I own on your basic $7/hr type jobs (I'll be picking up a new one for summer semester to get my 360 Elite) so it's perfectly possible if you shop around for sales (example, Spherex normally $500 - got it for $200).
I put having an HDTV and surround system above getting a next-gen system, and went for it first. I really don't get people who talk about buying $400 ~ $600 gaming system, but won't put down the $200 or so for a widescreen monitor or the $200 for a sound system (shop sales, sphrex, logitech z5500, etc...)
shows,sports, movies and games yes..
other than that.. HDTVs aren't necessary..

so everything a tv is used for...Â
Most definately for Sports. That's the only thing I care about in HD.waynehead895
I never understood why it's necessary for sports to have a good picture. The camera work in Sports broadcast is so bland I just don't see the appeal at all (maybe its the fact that I'm a filmarker).Â
I spent $3,200 on my 57" 1080p Samsung LCD, so I guess I don't have a problem with investing into an hdtv. They are the future. Most of my local stores only carry a few sdtv's.BioShockOwnz
When I went in late 2004 to get an SDTV with component inputs for my Xbox, I spent $250 on a 20" Samsung set with Dynasound. Now, in early 2007 when I went HDTV shopping for my upcoming Xbox 360, I spent $500 on a 27" Insignia, and spent $200 on a Spherex surround system (sales are your friend)... in either case I think I got my money's worth.
I used the *heck* out of my Samsung set - poor thing has geometry issues, noise, et cetera... one of the speakers was even dying for a while until I isolated the problem down to a faulty headphone port. It spent so much time displaying Halo, Halo 2, KOTOR, Phantom Dust, Disgaea, and Phantasy Star Online that it has really earned its retirement. At my new place it's being relegated to being the tv for the PS2 and Gamecube (deinterlaced images look horrible on my HDTV) and as a bedroom tv - it's finally going to get some well earned rest.
I never grasped why people who call themselves hardcore gamers dont put a little more money into the equipment that provides graphics and sound to them. It's like buying a third party controller - is saving $10 really worth having piss-poor control?
Necessary no. A good sound system is more necessary IMO (i still see people who rock HDTV's but only use the two crappy speakers on the box).
I, like many people, are waiting for them to be affordable ($300-600).

Y'know what bothers me more? People buy HDTVs, then they buy 5.1 computer speakers, hook the left and right audio cables into them using a splitter, and talk about how great the "surround" is. Absolutely unbelievable. It's like the Xbox 360 owners who post talking about how HDTV doesn't improve anything, yet have the system set to 480i - whoops.Â

Why dont you just buy a 32" Vizio? 599.99 USD. Its LCD screen, 1200:1 contrast, 1366x768p, 8ms response time. You cant go wrong. (The viewing angle sux though)
