would actually be interesting seeing this happen, although i would have an experienced lead designer with the staff to give suggestion and such.

They know as much about games as any other person. They cant even write decent articles, and they are both primarily gaming websites. If any of them got degrees in journalism, it certainly doesn't show. So for both companies who know next to nothing about making games or games in general, how the hell would they even make one.

Kevin VanOrd seems to be the fan favorite here. Let him make the game with his ideas only. Combine Vanquish with Dark Souls and he will be the design director for you!

greg kasavin quit reviewing games at gamespot to join developer supergiant games (wiki credits him as the writer) to make bastion which was well received mostly everywhere. also, i remember that the project lead for god of war 3, stig asmussen, came up from the art department in santa monica and his relationship with the programmers was pretty much "ill come up with something and you guys make it work." thats the sort of thing you would need to hope for because reviewers tend to be english or journalism majors (or just video game fans, i suppose).

Nope. Reviewing games and making games are completely different.

I don't get it.. If they hired game makers, then it would be game makers making the game, not Gamespot or IGN. And to tell whether or not those game makers would be any good would depend on where they came from.

They should just make their own game and see if their game is amazing. I'd think it would be interesting. Im not sure If they know anything about the actuall creation of games though, but they could hire some people and run all if the game makin bussiness.

P.S. I know their are other game rating places but I just wanna stick with these two..... Mostly IGN

Do you think they could make an amazing game if they had the people to do it. I mean, before they release it they could just like "review" thier own game and figure out what could make it better until its perfect in their eyes.

EDIT: I dont know why everyone is assuming that they gave a game I liked a low score or something. Im not mad at all so I dont know why people think I am. Im just curious at how It would be if they made their own game. And Im aware that they dont have the skills to make their own game, but If they hired some people who knew how and people from IGN and GAMESPOT just told them what to do and whatnot, do you think they could make it good?

IcyFlamez96

Perfect business plan right there :P

Ithink it would be interesting what they could come up with considering they know what makes a "game" good. But there's the feel that they won't come up with something original and the game they direct will be a mesh of all the good stuff in all the games in the genre. Not exactly bad, but not exactly superb as well.

I kinda feel bad for you in the first page TC, it seems like no one even bothered to read your OP before jumping on you. :P

Aa, some of the reactions here are just dumb. People saying that the threadcreators question is stupid and talking about sw coudn't getten any worse ... but what they do is hanging around in some stupid forum posting reactions to threads they found stupid... now that's stupid :p.

I think it's an interesting question, i asked myself the same thing. If a profesional reviewer can point out what's wrong with a game, how do you translate that when they would be making there own game. Some of us can say that they like a game but pointing out what's really wrong is something else... Would they see those faults in their own games?

yes, but do they know how to make a better game out of it? It's easy to see faults, but it's difficult to correct them! A game developer has a time scedule, some things have to be cut ... not enough testing.. hardware restrictions, how many people are working on it.... how much talent do these people have!

Like IGN saying Gears of war 3 is more of the same! yea, but what should they do if they would develope Geow3? Make it a racing game? :D

Instead of just having one guy at gamespot review a game they should get 10 editors to give their score on the game, average it and have one of them do a video review. It'd be much more accurate....

I love the idea. They could have a tase of their own BULLsheeze when their games comesout, gets terrible, unfair reviews from these so called "professional" reviwers [i mean criticizers].

I dont believe these people have any business reviewing games. They're just regular people who went to school for reading & writing & because they have these reading & writing skills they apparently are "professoinal" reviewers. I call bulsheeze on that. They dont the 1st thing about making games, reviewing games, what makes a good/bad game or gaming in general.

They have sio much to say but could never deliver anything up to par with the game they just tore apart. They can sit back pretending to know what their talking about, tear apart this game cuz they're "professional" reviewers. Professional game designers, retired designers should be reviewing games. Bias & bullhole opinions are everywhere though. What can you do.All i can say is their opnion, their review is no better than yours

I would love to see these professionals take a whack at making games. Maybe they'll get off their high horse once & for all.

remember when i said making games is more than just mashing together things you like? yeah, i was talking about this:
Kevin VanOrd seems to be the fan favorite here. Let him make the game with his ideas only. Combine Vanquish with Dark Souls and he will be the design director for you!Elann2008
it doesn't work that way.

Greg Kazsavin (ex Gamespot editor) made Bastion so, I guess it isn't impossible.

I think it's less about the knowing and more about the communicating, time, budget and skill.

If I had billion dollars and made a game of my own, I'd consider hiring someone like Yahtzee to point out the most obvious flaws in it. Of course big companies already have their own people for that, but it's surprising the things that get overlooked sometimes.

I'm sure many reviewers have great ideas, and with no limits those could turn into some great games, but I think the same could be said for most gamers. Unfortunately it's a whole different thing to actual create something in the real world. For e.g it's easy to say a game should be more polished, but actually polishing it takes time and money that you might not have.

When did I ever say they NEED to make a 10/10 game, I said do you think they could. I know its their opinion. I know no game can be considered perfect but all of the times IGN gives a 10/10 the games are coincidentally considered one of the best games of all time by alot of people so you gotta give their opinions some credibility. And they actually did give may favorite game a 10/10 so you can get outta here :D . JK they ddnt but the post I made has nothing to do with me being mad at them for apparently rating a game I like badly. Im done having this pointless argument with you. How are you going to tell me why I posted this topic? (ok I say im done arguing but im probablt not you you reply :P )IcyFlamez96

Do I think that IGN/GameSpot could make a 10/10 game? Absolutely not. Those are way too rare even for experienced game developers.

Do I think IGN/Gamespot could make a good game (like maybe 7 or above)? Possibly. I don't think they have the raw talent to develop a game, but if they got help and hired a great team, they would have enough insight to make a fun game. Game reviewers do have insight into what makes games fun and what doesn't, more so than a lot of game developers themselves.

I do think IGN would do better than Gamespot, as IGN seems more in tune with developers themselves. Though that might just be my own opinion.

Ign and GameSpot's staff could be considered as game experts and not game developers.
