im not bashing mgs4 or anything-i have it preordered..BUT i remember ryan payton saying something about the sales= he said MGS4 NEEDS to sell 1 million on day one to recoup production costs....so do you think it will happen?
so with GTA iv being on MULTIPLE platforms and selling 609,000 on day one in UK and 2.5 million in north america......is mgs4 selling 1 million in one platform even possible?

well 1 million people tried to access the beta on day one. plus more than that have it preordered, but didnt get into beta, plus how many people are waiting for the MGS4 bundle just to buy a ps3?(I am not against halo. I love Halo, and while I have never played the campaign significantly enough, I have spend hours playing this game with friends. I also enjoyed halo 1(xbox), while I still have the Halo 1 demo on my computer, and spent hours on that as well. Halo is a very great game, as are both of the titles mentioned in the title)
I will give my opinion, and my reason why I believe it can break Halo 3's day one, and first week record.
But first, let me share with you the current record that halo 3 set: (see TC's topic post. the origional information I had here was inaccorate)
Now, I will state the reasoning behind my opinion:
- Nearly 1 million people tried to access the beta on day one(the reason for the delay). How many people preordered this game? I know some preordered this game for the sole purpose of participating in the beta. That does not change much, because who is to say that they wont buy the game anyways? Now, how many people preordered this game, and could not acces the beta at all, A.because they didnt have online B. were not informed about the beta (casuals. Yes some places did not bother to inform customers about it) or C. Didn't care to play the beta?
- How many people, out of the PS3 userbase (who already own PS3s) are going to run out and buy this game, immediately, who have not preordered this game yet?
- How many million people are waiting for this game, or the bundle, just to get their PS3?
- The xbox 360 had a fanbase slightly smaller, than that of the quickly growing PS3, as of the halo 3 release, compared to the MGS4 release. (360=11.6M/PS3=11.92M will likely reach 12 million by the release of MGS4). The Playstation brand, has , for the last 2 generations of the gaming industry, led the competing consoles in userbase dramatically. Meaning there are more people from the last gen, who are familiar with most of the "Epic" games that sony is known for, including the MGS series, than there are people from the last gen, who are fans of the "Epic" titles that the xbox was known for. In short, there were more MGS fans(and PS fans) going into this gen, than there were Halo fans (and Xbox fans) going into this gen.
- The Sony fanbase is still much, much larger than the Microsoft fanbase (Not talking about system sales). The Playstation brand, has a larger collection of "Epic" titles that are basically guarranteed to come to the current gen console. More people, who havent come into this gen yet are going to get this game, if they choose to go PS3 first, than people who choose 360 first, will buy Halo 3.
- With the short but growing userbase of the ps3, and the major hype level of this game, a greater percentage of the PS3 userbase, will own this game, rather than the very well established userbase ratio of Halo 3 owners (greater than 1:3).
- Halo: CE, and MGS2 are in the same position as Halo 3, and MGS4. Both of them are a leap in generation. But here (opinion) MGS4 has an advantage. MGS2 sales passed Halo:CE sales. every game in the MGS series, was a drastical improvement, and leap from the original. Both series have also had a game that got AA. MGS3 got AA rather than AAA because 1. it wasnt a true seqel, but instead a prequel, so there will be much more momentum to get the next one, the true sequel to MGS2, that fans have been waiting for for 7 years, and #2. because it had a bad camera. Halo 2, got AA, because even tho it was a sequel, it innovated nothing compared to what the first one did. MGS is also known for a MUCH stronger story. Halo 3 is a generation leap, but innovated nothing significant beyond this factor. Halo is also known for a very WEAK story, but gets replay value from its STRONG multiplayer. MGS4 will be known for its STRONG story that has more fans than halo 3's story, a generation leap, and will get replay vaule for its Multiplayer.
- MGS3 and MGPO both had very good multiplayer, in addition to their strong stories. Their online was very popular, and only increased the scores of both titles. MGO is that same online, but a MUCH stronger version of it, which was already popular to begin with, so many people's arguement of MGO being boring or weak (most are new to series, or are too used to COD4 to accurately appreciate it) is NULLIFIED by this fact. MGO will only increase the scores and sales of this title.
- MGS4 has a very good chance of getting a 10. Now, I believed that, Until GTAIV got a 10. Now that it did, I dont think they will give out another 10, but I still think there is a 50% chance. IGN, who was the first to play the entire MGS4 game all the way through (actually, the latest build), had nothing but praise for the game. The way they talked about this game, I honestly expected them to give this game a 10. I have observed GS on ranking GTAIV. I think they waited for everyone else to rate this game, so that they could more accurately give their raiting. So, if IGN finds nothing wrong with this game, and it excells in all areas, they find no fault in it whatsoever, then the game will get a 10 on IGN. I think if the game gets a 10 on IGN, then everyone else will give it a 10, and GS will be dead last to review, and they will be more pressured into a 10 for this game. A repeat of the GTA4 situation. If this game gets a 10, then this will increase sales drastically.
And that concludes my reasons as to why I believe MGS4 will pass halo 3's day one sales. But I do think that it will pass its 1st week sales, or the total sales, even if it doesnt.
