I love how everyone ignored this post and complained about no new IP's. But I guess they don't count because we've never heard of them.

If they were high quality games (among the top ranked), then I think we've had at least heard of one of those. Plus none of those have even been released yet.

That doesn't change the fact that they're new IP's. Nice try.

Funny, because the majority of quality games aren't well known.

That's your opinion. That's not necessarily true, especially when it comes to something like production values and story. High quality games are generally well known, especially to a hardcore fanbase such as Gamespot.

The production value may be higher because of the dev being more popular, but that doesn't make the game good. If the game appeals to a big audience then it will get more hype/more known, if it's more niche then it won't.. A game being niche/underground doesn't make it any less then mainstream ones.

.................................................... If we're going to argue new IPs, that can easily be done, too. Especially in terms of quality experience. But yeah, I was speaking more on behalf of Nintendo's new IPs, since they don't have many third party developers. Where are the QUALITY new IPs :P.

Yeah but a developer usually gets "big" if they create a very good game. A good example would be Santa Monica, with God of War. It was relatively unknown when it was released, and created a huge boom. A good niche game to mention might be Xenosaga, I wish that was more popular. But it's pretty rare that something isn't well known if it's good, especially with video games.

God of War isn't anything that a mainstream audience wouldn't like.. If any mainstream dev made a high quality bullet hell game for their first game they wouldn't be known.. Because that genre is very niche and doesn't appeal to a mass audience.

So what are some good games for the Wii that you think are underground because they don't appeal to a mass audience?

Castle of Shinkigami III (also on the 360), I'm not going to list them all though, just search by genre in..

That makes no sense to me. Third-party companies develop for any console/system they choose.

Now, second and first party companies are owned by the head-company (i.e. Nintendo owns Retro Studios, Intelligent Systems, etc.), who would make IPs for the company. Unless, however, the head-company works with a third-party, then an IP can be born (i.e. Nintendo and Treasure creating Sin & Punishment).

Yeah, I know. It just seems like the main studio at Nintendo makes the best games compared to it's third party support, which is why I'm hoping the new Zelda will save the Wii for me for awhile :D.

Well, with system wars, it's all opinion almost. Arguments never really end. It's basically an epic battle of choices, that make no sense half the time when you go to argue about something. I have no clue why I'm trying to argue in this thread. That's it, I'm going to go play some Starcraft KTHXBAI.

I LOVE platformers. My favorite genre by far.

And yes, I'm enjoying the game (Playing it on an N64). Although, I've been spoiled by Banjo-Tooie a bit too much, as I owned/played that game before I played BK. But, it takes me back to when I watched my friend play it long ago. Good times. ^-^

While most people will say no out of blind hatred I think Nintendo's been doing a great job with its first party requuirements, most of its games have been critically accalaimed and it has updated most of its franchises, including reviving old franchises.

You'd be surprised how much one relies on the Grip-Grab ability from Tooie, only to play Kazooie and NOT have it. It leads to many facepalms and backtracking.

I own two working ones. But, EBAY is the place to go. I'm trying to collect the different colored ones. Of course, that may take a while as I'm but a poor college student.

No, the consistency is never consistent. All I know is that inconsistency is normal but what that inconsitency is is inconsitent thus this place always feels fresh :P

But wait! The inconsistency being inconsistent is in itself consistent making...Paradox...Snake...Brawl...

...

...Thus making it impossible for this place to always feel fresh!

Thanks, I appreciated that.:)

Nintendo is doing more for the hardcore than sony and MS combined.. it simply lacks 3rd party support.

I hate that Nintendo is constantly blamed for this

Everyone loves Nintendo but they dont like the casual games they make.

[QUOTE="Lethalhazard"]

[QUOTE="OreoMilkshake"]I love how everyone ignored this post and complained about no new IP's. But I guess they don't count because we've never heard of them.

Yandere

If they were high quality games (among the top ranked), then I think we've had at least heard of one of those. Plus none of those have even been released yet.

Funny, because the majority of quality games aren't well known.

Exactly, and that is why I am going to get Little King's story at a discounted price. Hahahahahaha :P

Nintendo is doing a lot for hardcore. More than any other developer for wii. However, it just doesn't feel enough. Instead of yet another "Wii" Series game. Why not Star Fox, or F Zero?

Nintendo may be #1 in sales but dead last in appealing games IMO. The 360 has better games than the Wii, thats sad.

I think that Nintendo itself is doing great. It has only made 5 casual games thus far which were all released reasonably far appart and they have released a good share of hardcore games. They continue to make sequels that are amazing like Zelda and Mario, then they revive old franchises such as Sin and Punishment and Punchout, and lastly I have heard word of new IPs from this thread so they've got everything. The fact that they have made casual and mixed it in just means that they are extending their reach. I think Nintendo is doing fine and I wouldn't want it any other way. :)

The best move Nintendo should make is to provide support to Third Party developers and entice them to put established franchises on the Wii. Square Enix has already announced Dragon Quest X for the Wii, so Nintendo should be working hard to get the lsame level of support from them that the DS sees. Nintendo needs to take a more active role and offer the Wii as a viable platform for Final Fantasy remakes, Kingdom Hearts III, and other Square Enix franchises.

Snake's appearance in Brawl should be taken advantage of by getting Kojima on the phone and seeing if he wants to do a Twin Snakes style remake of the two MSX Metal Gear titles on the Wii.

Let Sega take another crack at F-Zero and even let Namco have another shot at Star Fox(provided they keep it closer to Star Fox 64)

What the Wii needs now are established first and third-party franchises that can assist in attracting hardcore gamers. The Wii needs to be postioned as the console version of the DS. A cheap platform that requires fewer risks than development on the 360 and PS3.

It has the user base to support a transition towards more hardcore offerings. What Nintendo needs to do is offer third-party developers incentives to move away from party and mini games.

What have they done? There hasn't been a new franchise for over a decade, except for wii fit of course.

Considering I only own two Wii games, ten GC games, ten N64 games and ten SNES games... obviously not.

And Metroid Other M being the only game out of all those that offers something drastically different and new... despite being very old IP.

Drastically differend and new =/= quality. If the logic your using is the case, every FPS, WRPG, and JRPG on the PS3/360 is crap.
