Seeing that the Wii isn't exactly getting the best titles out there, do you think Nintendo should just move on and develop their games for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC?

If that happens, they'd better put in Gordon Freeman for the PC version of the next Smash Bros.

no analog controlled Zelda wont win my heart, i think. SMG showed us that Wii games can look great, and while I kinda wish game would look better, TP graphically stunned me (and this was after i played Gears of War) anyway, and if they do better (and they probably will) it's great for me. I just see more potential in gameplay changes with wii-specific motion controls rather than analogs, which will just make another TP with no significant changes from Ocarina. and I dont really like Move or Natal. Move looks too.... suggestive.

No, but that's what Wii haters would love. So even more NO! Just for the lulz.

absolutely not, they're the most profitable company out there and abandoning console development would be a stab in the back for fans, consumers and investors.

Nintendo execs go home to a swimming pool filled with $100 bills and use them as toilet paper too. They're not going anywhere.

From an economic standpoint, they'd be absolutely *insane* to give up development. From a making games standpoint, I'd rather they did - spread the love around, have more choice in what hardware they use. The Wii could well be a limitation in a lot of cases.

Most of the third-party titles released on the wii are either mediocre or just a load of crap.

Heck, the wii itself might even be dangerous to nintendo fanboys, who might go in denial.

Ah yes, always the doom and gloom for Nintendo. Nintendo is doing great, Nintendo development? Don't make me laugh, Nintendo is probably still the best developer of the big three when it comes to first party games. Nintendo has no reason to drop out of this race, never has, and probably never will, seeing as they are always making money, even on the less successful Gamecube and N64, Nintendo was nowhere close. OP has to be a kid to not even know business, will Nintendo just drop a billion dollar company, and walk away, because fanboys don't like them? Come on kid, get out of high school, and learn just about a little reality in business, no company just drops operation when they're making Nintendo money.

I had thought that such an action might be necessary for Nintendo during the last generation. We all know how successful the gamecube was. Looking at the Wii, i am curious as to whether or not they removed the Gamecube's bumpmapping support entirely. Cuz to me, the graphics look like a PS2 on testosterone.

Plus, the motion controls are still experimental, and some of the releases show that game developers aren't ready for it.

Pardon, but I didn't suggest it wouldn't go multiplatform. I gave two criterion - one, based on what's good for them economically, and the second, though I didn't state it, is what would be good for me as a gamer. Nintendo not limiting themselves to Wii hardware would simply give them more freedom to make great games, and that's better for me as a gamer.

And yes, the same statement applies to Sony and MS. When a game would have significantly benefited from the Wiimote, I wish they would have the freedom to make the change. That it will never happen shouldn't affect the answer to the question of what I think they SHOULD do for my benefit.

But naive? How so? I'm not suggesting it'll happen, nor am I harbouring any ill will since it never will - the question was asked, I answered what I thought would be ideal. If someone asked me "Should Obama have got the Nobel Peace Prize," am I naive for saying "No" even though it happened?

If Nintendo abandons console development, it would only leaves Tweedledee and Tweedledum (which I like to call Sony and Microsoft) in the market -- an oligopoly in the console market, just like the Democrats and Republicans represent an oligopoly in the political realm. An oligopoly is no better than an monopoly because of a lack of competition. This oligopoly will be unfriendly towards casual gamers who are responsible for the game industry as it is now, and make gaming what it was never intended -- underground and an exclusive elitist clique. Gaming is entertainment intended for a mass audience, not for an exclusive few.

Actually i just think they should take that huge fortune they've made from the Wii and DS and put out a really bad ass console, that way they'll be able to satisfy the hardcore guy's as well as the rest of there fanbase.

Nintendo will still be in the Console race.

But I do agree that Nintendo will need to step up their game. They tried a different route and became successful at it but now the Competition (which they tried to ignore) is catching on and they can no longer avoid the inevitable. Nintendo MUST step up their Game Next Gen.

This Gen however, they're fine.

nope if any one needs to leave its microsoft ALL THEY DONE IS RELEASE UNRELIABLE HARDWARE

and hardly any different games to compete against wii and ps3,

which is why in japan ds psp wii ps3 lead the sales every year taking turns

and in the us wii is always cleaning the shelfs with the exception of last month

so there ,

and with games like red steel 2 nmh 2 dead rising re series

house of the dead overkill klonoa

madworld

bully se

re4

driver 4

super mario galaxy and nsmb

zelda

metroid

etc etc

why would nintendo even quit

not ot mention the best version of this gens 007 game

as well as wwe games are more intuitive

and fun to play

just hang up your excuses

cause all 360 seamns to pump is average shooters one right after another

and theres no sign of that stoping

the n64 wasnt even this flooded with shoooters that were bad!

and we never wre charged an arm and a leg in the long run to play onlline multiplayer or should i say multiplayer period as thats mostly all 360 offers is hardly no split screen

at least wii and ps3=online free to play and so is split screen in more of their games

plus i can pop my rugrats games in my ps3 , , cant do that on 360

your on a losing case

Why would a multi-million company who have best-selling handheld AND the top selling console this gen (mind you, they're making a profit from each one too) abandon console development? It would be like asking Microsoft to stop making new Operating Systems because a few posters on a game forum says so.

It does get quality titles. Niche titles, but quality nonetheless.

Just because they aren't hyped to high heaven like MW2 doesn't make them bad games.

NO.

Nintendo first party titles still kick major ass in terms of sales and quality. Third party support is decent. And we need the alternative. WE NEED NINTENDO GAMES ON NINTENDO CONSOLES.

Look at the PS3 and 360. Most of the games on the system are the same for both with a couple of exceptions based on first party games. Nintendo is completely different. PC's are very different. We need that choice.

If Nintendo developed for other companies, then other companies would have their input... likely ruining great Nintendo titles.

Yup :). Anyway, like it or not (and personally, I really don't like Nintendo's direction), they are the number one top sellers, everyone is going to buy as much Mario as they do with casual minigame collections...and it's making a ton of money. Honestly, do you really think Nintendo is going to just wake up one day, realize they've took the spotlight away from our "traditional games" and decide to back out just out of the kindness of their hearts and a little sympathy for the competion? Pff...if they do, I'll eat my words and buy a DSi XL :P.

Agreed. People complain about Nintendo, but they're the reason I got into gaming as a kid, and I'll wager I'm not the only one. Plus, they've made some of the best games ever produced. Why would you want them to stop making systems? Nintendo needs autonomy to do what they do best, which is make amazing games.

Ewww. Modern Warfail 2 was crap compared to CoD4 and WaW.

Also, i can point out a few mistakes about the Wii:

-Nintendo's first mistake with the Wii was to discontinue gamecube controller manufacturing.
-Graphics aren't even the equivelant of an X1400
-Motion control concept was released too early
