Nintendo will bring something to the table with their 6th home console. I don't know exactly what. But I do know that I will be disappointed. The 6th Nintendo will sell millions next round. But I think that traditional gamer will not be happy with what Nintendo. The N64, The Gamecube, and The Wii have not 'impressed the hardcore gaming population. So it is mostlikey Nintendo with do something out of "left field" that will not be for "traditional gamers'

So I say that Nintendo will not Bring it with then Wii 2 (or whatever the call the Next Nintendo console) It will make money for them somehow..

Megavideogamer

I'm sure the next console will have games for traditional gamers. If you look at Wii's VC, you will see that Nintendo are holding off on lots of games. They are probably leaving them 'Wii 2'. Plus why would Nintendo abandon traditional games when they sold so well this gen? NSMB sold very well, DCKR has sold over a million so far.

We still haven't gotten N64 games on VC, not to mention lots of older games people are asking for (Yoshi's island).

They taught the game industry an important lesson with the Wii. To be successful, market to everyone, not just hardcore gamers. I think if Nintendo thinks they can get away with selling cheap hardware for high prices again while still being able to appeal to a broad audience then I think thats exactly what they'll do. I'd like to add that is exactly what Microsoft and Sony will probably do to.

In all honesty, I think Nintendo was on the right track....sort of. they brought to the table a system that while only produced marginally better visuals over the previous console offered a whole new way to play games. They also kept the price budget friendly and have stayed true to their core audience. They were able to do this because they didn't have a fancy BluRay player built in or an all encompassing online service that did so much than what is necessary.

Im kind of in the camp that maybe, just maybe the other two console makers should adopt, simpler is better for their next consoles. HD graphics are a must but maybe some fat can be trimmed away!

I'll agree that Blu-Ray isn't necessary and while alot of what xbox live has is awesome it's not entirely necessary. Regardless Nintendo totally did screw up online multiplayer for it's console and it really should pick things up there. We shouldn't have to exchange friend codes and every game should support voice chat. Nintendo screwed up on the basics there.

I really don't know what Nintendo will do next round. the gamecubelast genwas a mix of power and graphix (unlike the PS2) Nintendo held up great last gen and nobody really complained about the gamecubes power because it mached up with xbox and nobody thaught twice to criticize it. This round they switched so sony went full power to make up for the PS2 and ninty went the road of motion controls. The gamecube was critisezed however for being KIDDY or something which they kind of changed this gen with the wii (family orented). but its hard to tell for any company. 3D will be on all three systems next gen sometime or sooner.

That would depend on your definition of "bringing it". If you think Nintendo is going to make an ultra-powerful gaming console that is dedicated solely for hardcore gamers, then you're sadly mistaken. Sony and Microsoft are not going to make a new console for a while (since they still need to make money on their current-gen consoles). I believe Nintendo will make a console slightly more powerful than the 360 and PS3 with 1080p graphics and (possibly) 3D support. As well as importing the standard Gamecube/Wiimotes from previous generations, Nintendo will introduce a brand new way of playing the game (whether it be virtual reality, mind control, fully-body, etc.). Whether this control scheme will be useful for hardcore gamers I don't know. We have to wait and see.

Even with their "kid-friendly" image, Nintendo is trying to get the interests of hardcore gamers again. Seeing the many franchises Nitendo is trying to bring to the Wii and 3DS (including Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, Assassin's Creed, Saints Row, etc.), they want to get gamers intersted in their products again.

We all know the Wii is one dated piece of hardware. I'd even go so far as to call it "unacceptable" by current gaming standards.
Now I know alot of us has lost faith in Nintendo as a gaming company for gamers. But what if they go HARD in the next round?

Do you think they'll go with another relatively simple console, or actually bring the pain in the next round of consoles?

They can afford it. They ran away with this gen, that means they're sitting on the highest stack of money.
I just can't help but wonder if they're going to start competing with Sony and M$ again; and make a console for real gamers.
Or will they just pop something out that's cheap and casual?

What's your gut telling you?
Do you think they're gonna step up? Or crap on a plate and hand it to us again?

Conjuration

sigh... technology is only a tool.

And yes, this is the only generation where nintendo skimpped on the graphics. They'll go all out next generation.

I think you are flat wong. the Wii is great, it's just developers don't want to put the time in to actually make games good... There are many great Wii games that people refuse to look at when making these arguments. Also, as far as graphics go, have you seen Super Mario Galaxy 2?

so what your really asking is will ninty try and compete directly with MS and sony on their terms and make a console similar to a PS4 or 720 (assuming the PS4 and 720 stick to tradition). i dont think so. they would be obliterated. they tried...twice...and got slapped about. despite their success this gen they do not have the capacity to put billions and billions into R&D and then shoulder billion dollar losses for a few years by selling hardware at significant losses. ninty are going to do their own thing. what that is..no idea. seriously if you want something like a PS3 or 360 then get one of those. if you want something with a focus on online play then get another console or. if you want cutting edge tech then get a PC. if you want games that are more like movies then are you sure your in the right hobby?.....and get a PS3 :P.

I just hope the Wii2 will be as powerful as Sony's and Microsoft next consoles. Developing cost will just keep rising and developers don't have much choice but to go multiplatform to break even. If Sony and Microsoft go the same route next-gen while Nintendo insist on being the lone wolf yet again, it's just gonna be the same as this gen meaning the Wii2 or whatever they'll call their next console will miss all the multiplatform games and Nintendo will once again pretty much be on their own to support their system.

Wii4Fun

That's not really true. Devs will not want the companies to make a big jump next gen because that will just mean more costs to develop games. I'm sure they would rather they make a small jump and put in 1-2 GB of ram, enable games to run at a steady framerate and all that.

Pretty sure a lot of people, me included, thought the same thing before this gen started and look how that turned out.
I also thought the Wii would get more support because of the cost. But apprantly it's more profitable for developers to spend more making games and put them on 2-3 platforms instead of spending a bit less and putting it on just one.

So ya, Nintendo cannot afford to do the same thing next-gen or it's gonna be the same thing all over again with 3rd parties.

As far as the jump in technology and cost goes, that's inevitable. They can't stay at the same level forever, things will have to move forward eventually and people will be expecting it and demanding it. I bet those developers are really wishing for Nintendo to go the same way as the others this time instead of staying at the back cause that would mean 1 more platform for them to put their games on and break-even easier.

They wont "bring the pain" next gen. They will try another nifty way to attract casuals, but MS has stole their thunder with Kinect. I dont expect Nintendo branching out too far with their next console, no way they will try to directly compete with MS and Sony, who will no doubt "bring it" next gen.

[QUOTE="millerlight89"]I actually have a feeling the other two will follow the Wii even more. Conjuration

"Even more." Please elaborate.

Really? move and Kinect...end of story lol. It is easy to tell that Sony is catering the most to the "core" gamer right now, and Nintendo is actually catering to the "core" gamer with the 3DS, while MS is not doing much (right now anyway) but Kinect stuff and so forth. I think MS will go more "casual" next gen but still try and keep the "core" audience with gears and such. I think Nintendo will still be similar to as they are now, but be a bit smarter in terms of tech and such to please more "core" gamers, while Sony will be the one of the three who keep it almost completely focused on the "core" gamer. In the end I will most likely buy the PS4, Wii 2, and keep upgrading my PC. MS will have to do something phenomenal to regain my attention.

lol nintendo I have a doubt Nintendo will go HD next gen. They still haven't supported DVD even 2 gens after it became standard. They should be sitting on a stack of $$$ and could afford to take a hit on their console sales like they used to.

Their E3 got me to by a Wii again and made me crazy over the 3DS :P. I think the Wii has its strong points and its weakpoints. Is it my favorite console? No its not, but it does have some great games, is reliable/durable, backwards compatible, and so on. I wish it was more powerful and HD compatible, but I have accepted it is not and enjoy what it offers. Let's just hope the next Nintendo console offers great games with a bit more visual appeal ;).

Yes I do think that Nintendo will bring it next gen

Back in 2006 someone hypothesized on Nintendo's business strategy that has been nearly a decade in the making and it has been coming more true every year. Nintendo wanted to expand its audiences and innovate to render the competition useless and move into a "blue ocean." But what would happen if the competiton started moving into this "blue ocean" as well? It would of course become another "red ocean" and companies will for a while shift their attention to this new audience. Nintendo will release a powerful machine that will cater to both audiences and try to recapture the attention of the "core gamer." They already have the attention of the "casual gamer" with games like the Wii series, Nintendogs, and Brain Age. But they are also trying to create more interest in their other games by trying to convert "casuals" with their "bridge gaming" with titles like Mario Kart or New Super Mario Bros. Yet it is in my belief that Nintendo will also cater to the more dedicated fans. And with the release of the 3DS and its library and the fact that Nintendo actually went around to beg developers to develop on their systems, this seems to be in their plan as well. Some even hypothesized that Nintendo will use the profits from the seventh generation to fund their "super generation." From a gamer's standpoint this can be quite annoying, but from a business standpoint it is impressive.

Exactly! Just because they won this generation doesn't mean they have the market sealed for the next one. They need every ounce of advantage to come up on top yet again and releasing their next generation console first would be a step in the right direction.

@Title: No, Nintendo has been allowed by its consumer base to cut corners for years and they're not going to give up on that now when they've got people duped into buying their lackluster and rehashed products.

Basinboy

We made it to atleast 4 pages without the word Nintendo and rehash in the same sentence, must be a new record lol. Anyways...There's really no such thing as a rehash, Don't get why that word is even used to describe somthing.

It's either:

port - remake - new installment - spinoff

Rehash doesn't work too well when people use it as an umbrella word for games, Especially for Nintendo, a company that takes pride in doing drastically different stuff with their classic IPs. Take for example Metroid franchise, It's been a sidescroller, FPS, and even a pinball game(good IMO). Now take on halo: FPS FPS FPS FPS and RTS that no one cares about. I don't think any company has the guts to drastically change their franchises and alienate their fan base more than Nintendo have.

I think Nintendo will go all out, they had to go with a less powerful system this gen or else they would off lost to much money if it failed, but now the Wii is a house hold brand name like PS2.

The Wii 2 will be a powerful system with 3D capabilities, and Nintendo will sell it at a loss like MS and Sony did when they first launched the 360 & PS3

nintendo needs to bring more zeldas , look at the the wii , it still has none zelda after 4 yearsif you do not count the "delayed because of the wii launch gamecube port" that TP was
