Do you think PSP2 will be a portable version of the PS3? (Functionality-wise)

When it comes to functionality, the current PSP feels a bit under-featured when compared to PS3. The PSP does not have in-game XMB, trophy support, you can't log in as certain users, access to PSN feels very limited, along with other things. With the PSP2 however, I feel that Sony will fix this. You will have in-game XMB, trophy support andsome other goodies to make it feel like you are carrying a "mini-PS3", rather than a standard handheld device.

Another thing I would like to see on PSP2 is multiplats shared with PS3 and 360. The PSP2 will likely have 2 analog sticks and improved graphics etc, so it will be easy to port several games from PS3/360. Of course, the PSP2 version will have downgraded graphics, but it will still look far nicer than the current PSP. I think developers willabsolutely LOVEthis, since they can easily downgrade their existing HD games to a handheld device. The reason why third parties make all games multiplats nowadays is be cause HD games are expensive to produce, so if porting to a third device is a good idea, then the PSP2 will be a blessing for them :)

Your thoughts? Would you prefer the PSP2 to be made this way?

If Sony doesn't want it to fail they wouldn't make it that powerful so it could sell at a reasonable price. As much as I would like to see a handheld hold its own against the HD twins, it would be too expensive.

I think that i PSP2 is 'planned' for a 2011 release it will be a half-way thing between PS3 & PS4 in terms of functions/features and continue building on what they've done with the PSP/PS3..

Making a game dedicated to PSP2 would be expensive, but porting a current PS3/360 game to it should be quick and easy. EA had no problems porting Dante's Inferno to the current PSP.

personally i prefer dedicated gaming platforms. i hate paying for pointless fluff. however if sony want to take on apple rather than nintendo in the handheld market then it would have to be better than the PS3 in the features and functionality department. not just having lots of features but also being very easy and intuitive to use. if sony can also make it easy for devs to port iphone/ipad apps to the PSP2 then all the better and if they can also make porting PS3/360 games over also then all the better.

not really. It won't be portable, if that's what you mean. If they are putting a 4-core in there, you'll have to carry around a hefty PSU everywhere.

the only real reason for a PSP2 is for sony to try and control the rampant piracy. better graphics are just not needed on a handheld

PSP1 graphics architecture is very outdated by todays standards. I am sure that Sony could make the PSP2 have better graphics AND use less electricity at the same time thanks to optomisation. And that 4-core thing is still just a rumor, we don't know if its true.

I hope the 4-core rumor is incorrect. I think Sony should aim for the next PSP to simply be an incremental improvement to keep its price competive, and possibly even undercut the 3DS. Gamecube-quality graphics (to match the 3DS), a slim external drive capable of playing UMD/PS2/PS1 games (included with the system), a 16gb memory card and a second analog stick, sold for $199.

Of course, Sony should continue to improve PSN capabilities as well.

I think the Go's Save-state function is better than the PS3's in-game XMB, since "pausing" a game allows you to do anything from going to PSN or play another game without exiting the paused game.

Thats just overkill for handhelds. Trophies would be good.. but really i think even online for handheld games is a bit silly

That is one of the most bizarre things I have ever heard in System Wars, and that's saying a lot.

I think it would be great if all these features comes packaged in a reasonable price. But personally I could care less about the battery life of it since I hate gaming in a moving car, I'll always have it plugged in if I play.

And if they're going to port the 360/PS3 games over to it, they should use the 360 versions, since most of them are more superior compared to PS3 versions of games, & translate the controls for them.

I am guessing between PS2 and PS3 graphics. Maybe something along the lines of what the Wii is capable of.

It will beat the Wii, given that the 3DS will output Gamecube-level graphics.
