I think they both have a shot, they are both rumored to have 2010 release dates.

Since Rage is also going to be on consoles as well as PC I will say to it out doing Crysis, but Doom 4 on the other hand might have a chance, a very good one to. But yeah imo the most likely game to outdo Crysis graphics wise will probably be either Doom 4 or Crysis 2, and yes I know Crysis 2 is on consoles as well but Crytek said the PC version will look better so there might be a chance.
I totally expect Doom 4 to beat Crysis, but I also hope Crysis 2 on PC looks better than Doom 4 :P
But as long as Doom 4 scares the crap outta me at night with my speakers turned up, I'd be happy anyway.
If id is doing the same with Doom 4, as they did with Doom 3 then I assume they're going to try and make it the best looking game to date.
I would hope so, seeing as they're both coming out 3-5 years after Crysis, so the tech in high-end PCs is a whole lot more powerful.
Plus, Doom is all about small levels, so it should be easier for it to look good than Crysis' more open levels.
Won't know til we some the game in action. Rage looks impressive and Doom on the original Xbox was brilliant. We'll see.
Definitely not Rage, but Doom 4 will probably end up surprising us graphically. Rage is supposed to show off the multiplatform versatility of the iD Tech5 engine, while Doom 4 will show off the power and graphical capabilities of the engine. At least that's the message I got from Quakecon 2008. Carmack also hinted that the PC version of Doom 4 will look significantly better than the console versions, so at the very least PC gamers will be getting some outstanding eye-candy from iD.
Why cant your Crysis 2 Logic apply to Rage? How much money have EA / Crytek got for the next Crysis, No doubt being a PC exclusive a lot of sales of the game and expansion had been lost to pirates and as of yet i can not think of anyone who has used the Crysis Engine to make anything? Correct me if i am wrong.Since Rage is also going to be on consoles as well as PC I will say to it out doing Crysis, but Doom 4 on the other hand might have a chance, a very good one to. Doom 4 isn't about corridors.
GGL: What have the id guys told you about Doom 4?Hawkins: Haha, actually, not much! It was kind of a "need to know basis" and I guess all I needed to know was what they needed from me for the motion capture. But I do know we are dealing with a post war/post apocalyptic event that civilians and military are fighting for their survival. They were very specific in how realistic the scenario that the characters were portrayed in...even down to the panicked breathing in a heated battle...I almost blacked out from breathing so much!
GGL: Based on your experiences mo-capping for Doom 4, what can you tell us about the character animations for the game in general terms?
Hawkins: Like I said, Mark was very specific on the civilians having a certain personality and the military characters having a separate one as well. The body language of the civilians is less, well, "trained." They carry their guns in a looser fashion and are a little sloppier when they run, a little more freesty1e The military characters are sharp as razors, with very swift moves, exact hand positioning and can turn on a dime.

What have you seen of Doom 4?!? . . . . . . I havent seen any screenshots at all.RAGE or Doom 4 on PC could outdo crysis, but it seems like it might not be the same scale seen in Crysis, and from what i've seen of RAGE and Doom 4, they both seem really grey and brown.

We haven't seen anything on Doom 4 yet, not even a screenshot. Doom 4 is ment to be much better looking than Rage, according to iD.
Can it look better.... of course it can.... will it.... who knows.
But 1 thing is for sure.... it will be more fun.
As long as doom 4 is nothing like doom 3 im buying it.
It could out do crysis i just for some reason doubt it. (graphically that is).
Rage would be more of a fair comparison since it will have slightly open ended levels, while doom will be a corridor shooter making it very easy to make it look great. Just look at Doom 3, it still looks great to this day.

Dude, Doom used to be a fairly big FPS in terms of scale, it wasn't a corridor shooter until later in the series.

And I linked an interview on the first page. It has military squads and civilians, it's obvious it's going to be a lot more open.
I'm really looking forward to Doom 4, but I have my doubts as to whether it will look better than Crysis or not. Wait and see I guess.
Im expecting Doom IV to beat Crysis. Anyone remember when DOOMIII first game out? That game still has pretty good graphics, especially for a five year old game.
Both are console limited games and hence cannot exceed Crysis, the PC versions would still be built on a game with console optimizations in mind.

Of course but only from a environmental size stand point. From overall graphical appeal, it's very possible. Still, Rage is a very open-ended game.
crysis levels arent very big and it's not open world like people claim it is, you gotta load up each level. halo combat evolved was more open world because you didnt have to load up each level lol just kept playing game loaded on the fly while ur playing next area. only loaded once. Both are console limited games and hence cannot exceed Crysis, the PC versions would still be built on a game with console optimizations in mind.

.... No.. Crysis has superior graphics not just in scale, but in detail and textures..No. . Because the Rage engine will be tailored to consoles.. sSubZerOoumm no. pc version will have better graphics than console versions. rage's textures on pc could stomp the crap out of crysis.
