Can't really do much about that, I don't think at least.

well, so far all N64 and Dreamcast classics on Xbox live were upped to 720p and in Perfect Dark's case upped to 1080p Don't see why they don't do that Even the Xbox live version of symphony of the night runs at 720p

The reason they do that for xbox is because they are going to have to rework te code to run on the 360 anyway, so why not just up the resolution. With PS1 games, it's a pure port, and to be honest, it seems like a waste of time.

But.... perfect dark looks so pretty in 1080p :(

they need to do a better job of it if they intend on getting all or even most they aren't doing a very good job and they need to update the bc abbilities of the ps3, ps1 games look total trash on the ps3 on high def tvs in 1080p.

WilliamRLBaker

Have you got smoothing turned on? I play a lot of ps1 games on my ps3 and I've never had a problem provided smoothing was turned on. When I played on my ps2 using compnent cables, the games looked terrible, unplayable almost. Luckily, I've only had to do this once, due to the fourth disc of ff8 not working on ps3's.

As for the topic: Nah, I love it. It just angers me that so many good games are missing from it.

Its not a waste of money as you paint it...its exceeding their expectations with how much money PSN can produce when used effectively.

Just look at tittles such as Final Fantasy 7....it got over a million downloads in its first weekor so I remember. Thats some real cash right there they gorged up...since they're only downloadable content as oposed to physical copies & its manufacturing expenses.

[QUOTE="osan0"]i dont think it really costs sony anything. the publisher just asks if they can put the game up there and sony either give it the green light or dont. any changes to the code needed to get the game running (im not sure if there is even any) would be taken care of by the publisher/dev. there might be a bit of server costs i suppose bandwidth to send the game....bit of space on a HDD somewhere....but its insignificant and would be covered by the price of the game anyway.DarkLink77
What he said. In alol honesty, they probably make more money off of putting games like FF7 on PSN than they lose licensing it.

good for those who dont have a bc ps3 but all ps3 play ps1 games, so ya they should do ps2s instead

The difference is that PS1 classics are just straight ports while PSN games are developed from the ground up for the PS3.

no because these games have already seen its development cycle...great way to recycle older games to a larger userbase

Nope.

I would go as far to say I encourage it.

It's easy revenue for devs that have been around for a long time. I mean Interplay went bankrupt, but they've put a few of their old games up on Steam, and the VC (Earthworm Jim, Fallout, MDK, etc), so now they are generating some income to hopefully make some future titles.

Did EarthWorm Jim curse when he got hit?

Yes, I think that Sony is wasting their time putting ps1 games on psn. Mainly because Sony is charging too much money for lots of those ps1 games when they should never cost more than $3, if that. I think a dollar a ps1 game is a fail deal.

Actually the 6 and 10 buck deal is just fine. Especially if some of the games are being charged more from online like ebay and such.

The sad thing is the Japanese PSN is waaaaay better when it comes to the classics then the US PSN atm, they freaking have einhander!!! They need to get to the grindstone bringing over all those good games damnit, I don't want to have to buy einhander on a japanese account just to get it.

Speaking of that, I would highly recommend people to not buy ps1 discs. I have tons of old ps1 games on ps1 discs that do not play any more due to disc read errors (and yes the discs are in perfect condition, other than the fact that some of the discs have aged). So I guess you really don't get what you pay for in that case. I was going to mention that in my first post to this thread but simply forgot. I would know about the ps1 games not working due to my ps3 being broke which made me go back to playing games that only ps2 can play.

they might as well since there's no PS2 B/C, it's easy money, and everybody else is re-releasing retro titles

personally i've bought 4 of 'em but nothing since last summer, if they release Xenogears i'd buy that again since i no longer have my copy, and i'm thinking of getting FF9 since i never got a chance to play past the first disc of that game

Everything he said basically but just replace the first disk with the 3rd

Absolutely not. They are taking products that they make no profit on anymore, use (basically) zero production costs and make tons back. Every time I go to the PS Store I see FFVII and FFVIII at the very tippy-top of the best sellers list. And for $5 - $10 bucks, I can't say I complain, either.

I see finalfantasy94 point, but $3 seems more suitable.

If anything, Sony are not exploiting it enough. I can't think of anybody who would want to buy Creatures or Hardcore 4x4. At least they're starting to get games on the store that people actually care about such as Final Fantasy, Vagrant Story and Syphon Filter, but more please.

Menalque2

I know what you mean. on Wii's vc you have to pay $10 for an N64 game. the majority of ps1 games are $6 - I'm surprised that the standard isnt $10 and $15 for major games like MGS and FF7.

How much money and time do you think it takes? It probably costs them nothing and they probably make a good deal of profit from it. The only thing they need to do is make sure copyright/ licenses are fine and test it and bam it's out. They don't change anything.

Yeah exactly. Copies of FF7 were going for like $75 and ff8&9 were $20. I'd take the $10 psn price any day, especially b/c can play on psp.

in other words your saying they should recreate all the ps1 game in hd? its nothing to do with ps3 but the fact ps1 games run in sub 480p like 360p or lower with terrible textures etc. It doesn't cost them money putting all these old game on psn but it would to make them in hd.
