I remember during that gen more and more people were demanding amazing graphics and cinematic experiences. Everyday there would be a thread polling what is more important a game with superior graphics or gamepay; and so many gamers jumped on the graphics train. Games with average gamepllay and awesome visuals began scoring a lot higher(metal gear solid 4, gta 4) and devs started focusing more on the cinematic approach.

Now jump to this gen and heavy gameplay games like god of war are taking a more cinematic approach. First person shooters offer the same bland experience but more detailed visuals.

So I guess it is safe to say we finally got the answer in the "graphics vs gameplay" discussion. Graphics and cinematic immersion are the big thing this gen.

Youre wrong here. Vastly majority of people was going with gameplay.

Personally, as im saying for years now, i feel lucky that i like all kind of different experiences. Games that are based on gameplay alone and games that offer great production values and/or cinematic experience the same. When im about to buy a game there are OPTIONS out there.

So i dont understand why once more we need to hit games that trying to offer skyrocket production and visual values while player having some control in a cinematic environment which is far more immersive than a movie and far more interesting. For example i cant wait to play the new Spiderman game when i never liked a Spiderman movie before. That says alot as far as video gaming goes. Or i had a blast with Last of Us story , it could have been a hit horror movie in the theatres , so whats so bad about it ? Nothing wrong , was amazing game !

All in all this drama over cinematic games should stop imho. There is something for everyone out there. Besides gaming since mid 90s was trying to be as cinematic as possible thru CGI cutscenes. From hits like Final Fantasy 7 to Resident evil to heavily gameplay oriented games like Diablo 2.

You dont like cinematic games ? Fine dont buy them. I love them , i always was. I still remember how excited i was getting when i was watching a Final Fantasy 7 cutscene and i was playing eager to see the next one. Maybe for you was/is a nonsense , to me is the opposite.

Two of my favorite last generation games were Walking Dead season 1 which was a story driven cinematic adventure with limited gameplay elements and PORTAL 2 which was all about gameplay from its first to its last second. So , i dont understand all this drama with cinematic games really or why a great cinematic experience should not score well.

@Epak_: Yet you cant coherently explain why the game is deep. I am giving you a chance to explain why im wrong and im willing to listen, but you are just throwing out childish insults and ad hominem attacks. Also you gave yourself away with the typical SW chide "say someone is a COD fan" because they don't like a game I do. You said you have been on this board for 10 years, so you are atleast 23. Act like an adult.

So many game give you that in better ways then crysis. If I want to toy with enemies I will play Hitman.

How coherent do I have to be, you've made up your mind. Only thing you can say is that Crysis sucks blah blah blah, gameplay is boring blah blah blah, very thorough of you :D

I mean thats pretty much it, but you got offended that I don't like your favorite game and tried to come at me with insults. That is childish. You can't be triggered because someone doesn't like the same game as you, and then get even more butthurt because YOU CANT EVEN DEFEND A GAME THAT YOU LIKE lol!

Crysis had a level of depth that is absent from most other FPS games these days. To the point of its sequels being far more shallow(consolized) than the original. To say its shallow and that you've played it is to say you played it like it was CoD and didn't even try to experiment.

Yes. I didn't really love that they started (consolizing) some of it. I no longer have the bookmark but the maker even said sequels after C1 and WH would've been different if they were PC exclusive.

I don't mind having all the stuff in 1 (crapton of weapons at anytime), 2 (ledge and cityscape), 3 (mini upgrade system) but I wish there were areas more like 1.

I think the Nanosuit looks great.

@Mercenary848: Crysis was a great game, so was warhead. And it is one of very few shooters I have played though more than twice. I didn't like Crysis 2 or 3 though tbh.

@lexxluger: This. Graphics comparisons aren't new at all. I remember coming to this forum when 56K warnings were still a thing in threads with lots of screenshots.

This is a Sony issue not a Nintendo or Microsoft issue. No one ever says the latest Halo has bad gameplay since that is the best part. The same for Gears or Forza. I will always go back to Halo because of the gameplay. The story may not be great but the single player and online gameplay is great. Sony exclusives are known for little and poor gameplay but games in general are not known for this.

Yes for Sony exclusives gameplay is an afterthought but not games in general. Games can have both but Sony knows what its fanbase buys and they know they do not care about gameplay.

I love better graphics but I hate movie games which that is something a certain portion of so-called gamers want.

I personally do not even enjoy those indie walking sims so I sure as heck do not want my AAA games to be them also.

You sound like someone who started gaming during that gen. Because this fight has been going on a lot longer, and has been the driving force for much of the progress we've made. Graphics vs gameplay? A false fight for losers. You can have both.

I liked that the PC gaming show @ E3 had plenty of simple looking games. PC gamers know ;)
