Do you think the killzone devs are dissappointed with killzone sales?

I can understand them being dissappointed, K2 is one the biggest games on the PS3 in terms of hype and cost of development. Though I could still understand if they weren't dissappointed because K2 probably shipped at least 2 million. Which is like selling 2 million. Most games don't break the 2 million barrier

Maybe initially, but I think KZ2 will have some legs and will continue to sell respectablly throughout the year.

I'd be a little disappointed if I were them personally, but 2 million is respectable. Also if you want an FPS between now and the time COD comes out KZ2 is the one to get so it will probably sell some more between now and then as well.

I would say they were massively disappointed, and so would Sony if they were truthful.Remember this was teh PS3's killer -app,4 years in the making and costing $60 million.AFAIK Sony hasn't spoken about how great KZ2's sales are,or how it sold X number of copies in its first week etc.

Because if KZ2 had sold half as good as Halo 3,or even GeoW,you know we would be drowning in SCE Press-releases by now.

Also Just a liitle fact that I've discovered- KZ2 was knocked off the top of the UK charts(by far the biggest console market in the EU terroteries) after just one week. After 5 weeks its languishing at number 23. Lol.

Unless I missed a press release, the fact that Sony hasn't come out bragging about KZ2 sales is very telling to me.

I'm sure they wish it was more like 5 million sold, but still 2 million is good.

I'm thinking they wish it were more, but to be honest even if it were Halo sales, they'd still wish it were more. People are greedy.

That said, i think it'll go on and continue to sell, and to be honest, so far they've done pretty good.

Of course they're disappointed. It was supposed to be bigger than MGS4. That's what you get for advertising as rare as water in the Sahara. If they had jammed it down people's throats like COD or Halo, it would have sold another million.

Hasn't it sold a little over 1.5 million copies...

It hasn't even been out for two months yet...

Seriously, give it a rest. Complaining about 1.5 million in less than 2 months is ridiculous. Not every game sells like Halo does.

I'd say it depends on the budget and revenue. But neither is known, but 2 million or close to it... I'm assuming they'd be pleased.

If they were expecting it to be the next Halo or GTA, then yeah, probably.

EDIT: And to expand on my post, realistically, Killzone 2 has done very well in the marketplace. Seeing as Sony didn't take the MS approach and cram Killzone 2 ads down our throats in the months leading up to the game's launch, the fact that the game is nearing 2 million sold in less than 2 months is very impressive.

Indeed, on that note its not marketed* like Halo is. No game is. People on forums seem to have unrealistic expectations.

AS long as Guerilla gets paid, I doubt they care all that much. SCE on the other hand will be watching the numbers closely to see if they meet expectations.

Sony probably would disagree with me but I think it would be wise to ramp up the advertising on killzone 2 even now. I bet at least a million people who would be willing to buy it don't know enough about it yet.

Everyone always wishes they could have better sales. Even if you sell 20million copies, you still wish you could have sold better...after all, who doesn't like money. With that in mind, I dont think they are disappointed. Selling 2million is very respectable and the game just came out.

lol sure ok, and where does that money come from?

EDIt let me clarify before i go to lunch. Even if the retailer pays, that money has to come out of the profit made in selling the game. So it doesn't alter how much money the publisher gets.

The retailer pays. That's common sense. When I buy something online. I pay shipping. When a retailer gets a shipment, they pay shipping. It's common sense

As I said in my edit that would still have to come out of the cost of selling the game. Whether the retailer or the publisher pays it makes no difference, that money has to be generated from somewhere. If you want the retailer to pay then he just takes a bigger slice of the selling price to cover it.

It is a sad day when gamers think selling over a million copies in a short time is "doing bad".

Terrible way to damage control over how KZ 2 did not flop.

Now every game must sell 2 million copies on day 1 to be considered a success?

KZ 2 will keep on selling for many months as more people get PS3s.

But the amount the publisher and retailer make is still unknown. It's all assumptions any way you slice it. So there is no point in arguing. The one thing that's for sure is the publisher makes most of it. Just consider the fact that Gamestop makes more money off selling used games, that's why they are so big on buying and selling used games. If they can make more money off buying a used game for $30 and selling it for $55, than selling a new game for $60. You know they don't make much from the new games

agreed, but they have shipped 2 million WW, assuming they sell the game wholesale at $45, that means they have $90 mil in revenue. I doubt all those things you mentioned are $30 million worth of overhead expenses

Yes because it could and should really sell like a blockbuster with the shooter buying market out there No because after that garbage they made the first time, i think they are happy with the positives they have gotten with Killzone 2.

Its not like the game is just going to stop selling.. the game is a sequal to a flop, so i didnt expect the sales to be astronomical. but as time goes by, more and more people will talk about it, and more people will buy it.

I think the first Killzone sold around 2 million on a console with a 130 million install base. Killzone 2 is going to easily surpass 2 million on a console with a 22 million installl base. So I think they're happy enough. And it's the fastest selling 1st party PS3 game in NA yet, so that's pretty good.

Yeah I can tell you from working in places that carry games that there is almost no markup whatsoever on them. If it's anything at all, it's enough that I wouldn't pay tax, after my staff discount.

Like LBP, it was expected to pull millions in the first days. Instead, it breaks 1 million after a few weeks.

Good sales for a game, flop sales for a AAA 4 year hyped xclusive game.

I think their main problem is that they only marketed to people that already knew about it. Not enough saturation.

They probably shipped 2 million, but they haven't even come close to selling 2 million yet. They've sold about 1.4 million worldwide which isn't squat considering all hype and fanboy BS on these forums. lol!! Don't get me wrong, the game is awesome, but cows need to stop talking about how great it looks and start convincing friends and relatives to buy the game. Yes, the first game wasn't anything special, but the 2nd is leagues above it. Other games like Prince of Persia, Mirrors Edge and Dead Space all should have done better then they have in sales.

I know they had like a crazy insane, insane crazy budget, but the sales are bad. 2 million in like what... less than 2 months isn't bad. Considering that the game had little advertising and was a follow up to a less than stellar game, it's sales are pretty good. I want to say that I read something somewhere that said Sony was gonna use KZ2 as like an example/engine/how-to for other developers. Even if it doesn't sell amazing, if what I heard was true, it's more than served its purpose imo. Plus it's a sold game all around.

I think Sony is happy to have sold at least a few million to retailers ..... and Guerrilla is happy that the critics and fans liked the game , and they get payed to do what they like to do. This success is going to lead to more money for them as developers.

Somewhat, but then again, they have earned their redemption for the failure of their first game. So they've got something to be proud of. And like every other PS3 exclusive, it'll probably continue selling a bit longer.
