Do you think there will be a new console in 2012?

So in relation to your argument of "Graphics are the only reason" a new xbox would supply that. In terms of a decision by MS, it would depend on Market Forecasts and demand. Aspects that involve many variables. Given that quite a number of years have passed its quite possible the market is ready for a new console.

I for one am looking forward to the Wii2 to see how Nintendo makes the Wiimote + Nunchuk more compact and accurate, to see their online service, and most importantly the games that will be on it (F-Zero! StarFox!).

UNCHARTED 1/2/3 same engine, but it was built only for use on ps3.

gears of war uses the unreal engine 3 which is a multiplatform engine not originally designed only for 360.

nope. an xbox rep said at e3 that after the release of kinect, they anticipated 5 years of lifetime for the 360 from that date. so holiday 2015 i reckon :)

I honestly don't think we're going to see a new console for a while. MS, Sony, and Nintendo are doing too well with their current gen consoles. Everyone keeps pointing fingers at MS saying their going to bring out a new console, but this isn't like last gen. They are doing extremely well with the 360. Throw in the new motion controllers recently released for PS3 and 360. I don't see this gen dying out for a while. If anything I see it exceeding the previous record set by the PS2. Things are a lot different this gen. Unless gamers really start craving for new hardware to the point where they quit buying current gen consoles andgames, then we will see this gen for at least another five + years.

i hope so, compared to what i have spent for games hardware cost is a drop in the bucket.

ahh correct.. i didnt think of that.. i was in a "this xbox, then the next" mindset...no co-existence occured to me. so you'd say around 2013? or somethinga little more concise, to add to the discussion?

Microsoft is already finalizing hardware (AMD Fusion) for the nextbox. I think its possible for them to release it holiday 2012.

What do you think Halo Reach and Fable 2 was? The xbox 360 doest have as many tricks up its sleeve as the PS3 , its much simpler to make games for and the majority of games this gen have been built for the 360 as the lead platform. The average lifecycle of a game console is about 6 years. So 2012 sounds about right especially since Microsoft has been making money off the 360 for awhile now.

We're not going to see any new console no ps4 and new xbox until 2015 right now all console are doing exetremely well and there still bach of news games coming for all three consoles next year

I still expect a new WiiHD next year (2011), and a new Xbox in 2012.

Given Sony's history of releasing a new console 6 years after the last one, 2012 looks like a good possibility for a PS4 also.

I still cant believe that next year will be the 5th year of this generation of consoles, they still haven't sold all that well and they don't feel that old either. Microsoft and Sony probably want to prolong this generation until they sell more, Nintendo on the other hand could go whenever.

Also, it just doesn't seem like we've had enough games yet. We've seen the release of one GT game, one GTA game, one RE game, one DMC game etc etc. With increasing development costs, developers probably don't want to rush into the next gen either, they've spent millions building engines for these consoles and most of them haven't made too many games.

I'm thinking this is gonna be a longer gen, new consoles will come in fall 2013 or early 2014.

The current console generation started November 2005.

Microsoft will probably announce its next Machine at E3 2011 and tell us it will be ready for launch Holliday 2012.

That will be a full 7 years, btw.

That whole AMD Fusion thing kinda leaves me thinking they're going to pull a Ninty on us.

You won't see a new console until 2014, at least, and that is if the global economy doesn't tank (which it likely will).

If you want to play new games/graphics get a PC, which you should do anyway, instead of worrying about the next outdated-in-2-months console.

You're right, it will be the PS3's 5th anniversary at the end of 2011. However, I think there is NO chance that MS will announce the next Xbox at E3 2011. Why would they? They've just release Kinect which is essentially a relaunch of the console, it will bring in a ton of new customers for them. Also, they're picking up steam with the 360 and are selling a lot of consoles. Why cut it loose already? Its better for Microsoft to milk the 360 until its last breath before releasing the successor.

Why abandon it now when its done a damn good job at cutting into Sony and Nintendo's market share and is still selling in high volumes? Also, when I say abandon I really mean abandon. MS didn't support their last console after the successor came out, unlike Sony.

Kinect is doing well right now, but its Christmas.

I really think that Kinect is going to slow waaay down come Feb and March.

But with or without it, Microsoft doesn't have much left for XBOX 360, and minus Gears 3, which is really just more of the same, 2011 looks quite barren.

Sony on the other hand, they've got a full card for 2011....some months they are going to have 3 exclusive games release...maybe even 4. They are really going to put a beating on the XBOX 360 for the first half of 2011.

But that's when Microsoft is going to do what it has always done best this gen...they are going to spoil the PS3's parade.

At E3, I can definitely see Microsoft announcing XBOX 3. They'd have the enitire industry, once again, talking about Microsoft.

Keep in mind, just because Kinect works for XBOX 360, doesn't mean it can't work for XBOX 3....I mean, the thing uses USB, right?

Also, think about it....Microsoft is probably wanting to come out first again....2012 is the perfect opportunity to do that without pissing off developers and the industry overall, because 7 years is a long time for a console cycle.
