After it scored 7.5 do you think it'll be nominees?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Some places maybe; not a chance on GS. It might get nominated, but that's not even likely.
Bottom line, however, is that Skyward Sword just really isn't the best game of the year.
I'm sure GameSpot will find a spot for it in the Dubious Honors section.
Probably under Most Disappointing Game, Worst Game Everyone Played, and Least Improved Sequel.
Wii GOTY maybe? It's not as if the competition is fierce for that honor.
darktx2005
And it won't even get that with Xenoblade around.
[QUOTE="GunSmith1_basic"]nope, gamespot likes innovation and SS doesn't have itMonsieurXI don't get the score for MW then GOTY doesn't go to the game with the highest score. MW3 has no chance either. If SS had a 7.5 but was truly innovative and just stumbled on some other bits then it would have a chance. Xenoblade Chronicles has an outside chance to win for this reason (gamespot was glowing about it for pushing the genre forward just like Dark Souls did), but with no NA release I doubt it could win either.
nope, gamespot likes innovation and SS doesn't have itGunSmith1_basicI would say it's innovative than UC3, Skyrim or certainly MW3, for example. It's the only game so far to use such an extensively motion oriented control scheme (and it works very well according to most sites.) Most reviews actually praise the game with being filled with creativity and new ideas.

I'm a good few hours in and so far the game feels very different from what you'd expect from a Zelda game, even down to the music. Really, you'd think people would be ****ing that its too different. I'm really surprised with this review.
Not here, not as a 7.5. GOTY is now between Skyrim, Dark Souls, Gears of War 3, and maybe Uncharted 3.

lol, wut? Red Dead Redemption got GOTY last time and that game wasn't innovative in the slightest.
We all know that Dark Souls will "mysteriously" win GOTY. Even WiiGOTY will go to Xenoblade.

Mysteriously? How so?
No.
McShea clearly dislikes it (the entire video review was nothing but complaining), and Kevin V said he thought other sites were grading a certain game on a curve, and with the review out, it's pretty obvious what game that was.

Trying hard not to sound like I'm in damage control mode, but McShea said he enjoyed SS on NeoGaf last night.

Maybe he was damage controlling on GAF. :o But seriously, all I heard during that review was: "This sucks, this sucks, this sucks, that sucks, no voice acting, controls suck, blah blah blah, but I guess if you like Zelda it;s pretty exciting. 7.5." Like, I was expecting a 6.0 just from watching the review. Which is cool, it's just inconsistent as all hell.[QUOTE="DarkLink77"][QUOTE="TreyoftheDead"]The video review says otherwise. I have no issues with the review or the score.I haven't played the game. I just expected a lower score based on all the complaints. So please, don't patronize me.
The review scores generally reflect the consensus of all the editors at GS. They go over the game review before it is posted so I dont think much would change. If the other editors think highly of the game then maybe.

Like, I was expecting a 6.0 just from watching the review. Which is cool, it's just inconsistent as all hell. it's more likely that Tom knew there would be a backlash to the score and so he was explaining his problems with the game in detail to minimize the damage. That way anyone who bothered to watch or read the review could understand his expectations for the game and how they weren't met. He puts a higher priority on precise controls and innovative gameplay than a place like IGN I guess. Right now this is looking like a Twilight Princess situation where GS is offering us some sanity while other review sites are forgiving way too much[QUOTE="calvinsora"][QUOTE="glez13"]

Mysteriously? How so?
Cmon, KEvin is a major Dark Souls fanboy. IT's GOTy locked because he's Editor in Chief. My point was more to the "mysterious" part of the sentence, Dark Souls is brilliant, why wouldn't it win GotY overall? Demon's Souls did so two years ago, most of the editors obviously thought it to be the best game back then, an opinion I share.
Unlike the people who are saying not a chance, I don't see why not. If McShea was honest about his experience with the game, I don't see why the rest of the gamespot staff would not hold that level of professionalism if they disagreed with him on the game.
Sure you have that 7.5 in there, but I would expect the gamespot staff to expect the gaming community to understand that the site is built out of more than one reviewer. If they feel the need to explain themselves, then just address McShea's review and say that the majority of the staff doesn't have to agree with it. Same reaction I would expect from the staff in just telling McShea to go ahead and just give whatever he feels his experience with the game deserves, outside of any other views another member in the gamespot staff might have about it. We want the reviewers to be honest about their experience with the game--I think this logic should apply for the game of the year candidates as well.
Everywhere else probably. I have a difficult time imagining it being nominated here, let alone win.bobcheeseball
Same. If it did win McShea would be out of the job, off to ign, and thus learning the true nature of the nine point zero score.
The game still has a 94 on Metacritic. Of course it will. Not on Gamespot, but virtually everywhere else, it will get nominated.
Merex760
Were talking about gamespot here.
I doubt it, it is now between Gears 3 and Dark Souls only
All others have been eliminated
Of course they can just have 360 as console of the year, that gets both and the best version of Dark Souls too
[QUOTE="GunSmith1_basic"]nope, gamespot likes innovation and SS doesn't have itMonsieurXI don't get the score for MW then COD fanboyism? I dunno I'm thinking Skyrim its very high on MC.
