Crysis doesn't count, that game is boring after 1 day.

Define major.

Most of the great PC games available at the moment don't require the sort of system you need to try and max out Crysis. I haven't upgraded since mid 2006 and am finding Crysis is the only game I have trouble maxxing.

I buy a new rig every four to five years and I am do this fall. I even have an account dedicated to saving up for a PC and I have 1k in there now.

For the first time ever I have considered saving my money and limping along with what I have now for another year.

My favorite PC game so far this year can be played on a low end rig, Sins of a Solar empire. So, it depends on what state your current system is in. If all you can not play, like me, is Crysis, I would wait. If you have not played STALKER or Sins, or Company of Heroes or any other games you would like to, do it.

I buy a new video card every two years or so.

You really don't need one of the best CPUs available, a Dual Core will do just fine. In fact, Quad Cores are still largely useless.

As for RAM, I'd say 2 GB is a must right now.

Of course, it'd depend on what system your upgrading from. In that case, you might need more advice from the PC forum.

Conan or Crysis benefit from a really buff rig. So does Bioshock & Assasin's Creed.

I've been rocking an 8800GTX for a year now and see no reason to upgrade. Even the new cards out don't show a substantial improvement over the 8 series.

Based on your definition of major, I'd say wait. All the big PC Games out now (SoaSE, WiC, GCiv II: TotA, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, etc.) and all the ones coming out (Clear Sky, SCII, Spore, Diablo III, etc.) aren't really hardware busters. You'd be better off waiting until the next real hardware pusher comes along until you upgrade.

I always like upgrading, maybe it's an obssession of mine, but my computer right now that I finished just only a few months ago cost me nearly 2 grand maxes everything I've thrown at it, just barely not maxing Crysis. I'm upgrading my graphics cards next month though and should be able to finally max Crysis and I think I will settle with my rig until something comes out that threatens it's power haha
