Do you want a $400 underpowered pos or a proper next gen console for $550?

I would rather just stick with the current gen, honestly. I'm not going to see noticeable improvement with a jump to 4k without also upgrading my tv, anyway. Current gen graphics look really good. I don't need more.

Haha I'm hearing this argument since the Ps2 xD

Yeah, but it's actually true today. The jump from last gen to this gen really wasn't that noticeable. I don't have any issues whatsoever going back to a PS3 or Xbox 360 game the way I would have other gens. I expect the jump next gen to be even smaller. Really, unless a console wants to go all in on something like VR, which would be cost prohibitive, I just don't see the point.

Graphics aren't the only part of gaming. Current gen is plagued with abysmal performance, and you're fine with current gen?

Yes, it's fine. Next gen will push 4k and also be plagued with abysmal performance. That "abysmal" performance will also be fine. If you want to actually expect every game to perform well, you need to maintain a gaming pc.

TC, you should make a new thread, maybe a poll. Another $150 won't get that much extra as many already pointed out.

Something like this;

Would you prefer a $400 console with a decent GPU and tablet CPU?

Or would you prefer a $550-600 console with a decent GPU and good CPU?

The latter would have a much higher chance of running games at 60 fps, and could likely enable the most graphically demanding games to have a 60fps mode which runs at lower resolution.

I like the $400 limitation. It forces the companies to get more creative in what they offer. Consoles are starting to get boring to me. It’s time for a shakeup.

Note that I’m talking about actual innovation that is pushing the medium forward, and not one generation gimmicks.

Well, i upgraded my "monitor" from 75" Sony X900F to 65" Samsung Q90R in January (4k@120Hz, i think that's future proofed enough for a few years...:P), and now just waiting for Ryzen 4800X or 4900X and RTX 3080...

TL;DR: Can't wait for the incoming shitstorm of "my PS5/NeXtBox got better graphics than your 3k PC" threads... (¬_¬ )

I maintain a gaming pc. If Sony and MS are smart, there will be an option for sub 4k/60 and 4k/30. That is much better than what we currently have.

Honestly I'd rather pay more for a premium product, but I'm sure they'll both be fine either way. Graphics and power aren't really what matters to me, but it is a cool added bonus.
