Poll Do you want a full fledged console Pokemon? (54 votes)

Yes 70%
No 22%
Other, explain. 7%

If Nintendo could go full blown Pokemon on the Wii U or next console, not talking a spin off or stadium type game....would you want it? Does it only appeal to your handheld nature?

No, not really. Handheld is fine, they just need to overhaul the design. Make the late game challenging and give you things to do after beating the game. Make battles more interesting, it's time to give us more than 4 moves. Their solution of "let's just add 100 more pokemon and ship the same tired ass game" stopped working a long time ago.

Also, make battles flashier. The last two pokemon games were a half step. Go all the way with the 3d graphics and especially the animations

I would like to have one, but I won't care about it until they actually announce one with all regions and pokemon.

Could adjust it and make it on a grander scale.

@n64dd: There are design elements that tie right into it being a handheld game, such as trading, quick burst play and multiplayer battling, not to mention version differences, that would be more cumbersome or next to impossible for a console to do.

It's not just a matter of "adjusting it" when you're talking about two dramatically different devices and play experiences. Pokemon is on a mechanical level meant to move around with the player. "Adjust it and expand it" betrays a total lack of understanding of that.

I never liked Pokemon games, so I personally would not want it, but I do think it would be a good idea to release a console Pokemon and I'm surprised Nintendo has not done it yet.

No, not me personally, but then again it's a huge Nintendo franchise so they'd be crazy not to with a new system coming out and all. It seemed way too kiddy for me when the franchise was born and the games have too for that matter.

I prefer SMT, it's like Pokemon but with demons for adults, and predates Pokemon by several years, plus it's original whereas Pokemon is the more successful rip-off.

However, I absolutely adore the presence of the Pokemon in the Super Smash Bros games.

I do not, but I enjoyed Coliseum and XD on the Cube, I'd love to see another Pokemon game in a similar style on NX.

How will they fit 700+ pokemon and an open world in a console game? I'm not sure if its possible.

With Nintendo's NX system which is speculated to be a hybrid you don't think they could address all those issues in a new way?

Handheld is an ideal fit for Pokemon. A big part of the game's draw is the portability aspect and the ability to trade and battle with friends. It's partly why I think Pokemon Go will be a hit.

I would also imagine it would be very costly to provide a full 3D vision for the game.

I'd love to see a Pokemon MMO on a console, but Pokemon in its purest form is perfect for handhelds, and I don't want that to change.

I hope the rumors about NX are true. If that's the case, then I see no reason why we can't get a open world Pokemon MMO that works across the portable, mobile and console versions.

It would be great if there was a console release along side the portable versions with better graphics and you can use your save file in any of them. So when you are on the go you play on portable and then when you get home you can play the enhanced version on your console.

bullshit, they've made a whopping zero games like the handheld games on a console, on a fundamental level.

It would just be a shitty business move, because they make hand over fist making a way cheaper game, built to milk people with multiple versions.

I'm being fucking trolled here, this is a con we all running?

We're going to ignore that MMOs, Diablo, and Phantasy Star Online, plus so many other loot rpgs were a fucking thing. We're going to ignore "multiplayer battles" like the handhelds aren't a fucking generation or two behind the present day consoles in that department. "the different versions" um the only difference is which pokemon are in them, you could make a red and blue since the only code you're changing is which version gets what, doing it on a 60 dollar level would just be more expensive, not more difficult or even game breaking to do.

"mechanically built for on the go"...yeah man because turn based rpgs are so fucking foreign to consoles, one would never think that some of the greatest turn based jrpgs were on consoles like Chrono Trigger which started on the gameboy, or Final Fantasy which started on the gameboy, or Super Mario RPG...oh wait a minute they were all on consoles first.

Of course! i would buy their next console even if it had a teddy bear as its console (which wouldnt be surprise if that happens since this is nintendo, shity control and device designs)

A real pokemon games needs:

  • Full HD
  • Full voice acting (for pokemons too)
  • Open world
  • Online fights
  • Trading online
  • New music

Sadly this is shit nintendo which means something like this will never ever happen, they are busy making pokemon only on handhelds and milking the same f**king engine time and time again with the same exact format time and time again hence why i dont support such a lazy company

I'll admit I poorly worded my explanation. But I do believe Pokemon's principal design is best fit for handheld devices. There's a social aspect to the game that I imagine would become weaker if nailed down to a stationary platform, as there's a particular camaraderie associated with it.

Chalk this up to ass-backwards thinking paired with nostalgia. But I simply have trouble imagining a full 3D, yet entirely faithful transition.

Yes and lol at people saying it wouldn't work. It would be expensive and wouldn't be milkable every single year like the handheld versions but it would be very possible and it would be amazing and sell systems.

Agreed 100 percent. I'd like to add that they could make hand held pokemon games, newer ones that interact and give perks to the console version. They could also do the amiibo thing, which is just a gold mine.

Lets not go overly complicated, nothing about Pokemon would have trouble translating to a fully blown 3d game, the real reason it's done is that the pokemon company would effectively have to do

"So you want us to invest even more money into making one of these games, for something that won't make as much of a profit given how much cheaper it is to make the games the way we do now? Sure that makes all the business, lets do it". Thta's the only reason it makes no sense to do it, shit I don't even blame them, I'd look at it the same way. You want us to make less money?

Nintendo would make less money, but that's the only good reason I can see why it should not happen.

It'd be interesting to see the game put on the iPhone/Android/other smartphones too.

What I was thinking was they could make a full blown console verison and make new hand held versions that work with it. We've learned that the model of splitting up games (fire emblem) can work. It'd be a little more larger scale, but I think it could bring a whole new level to pokemon.

What are you talking about? Pokemon could work just fine on the console. Pokemon has never been a quick burst game, despite being portable at least no quicker burst than any other RPG I have played. Multiplayer battling and trading can all be done on the internet, just like it is for the portable version. Version splits would work the exact same way, no issue there.

They would not be anymore cumbersome on console, because they would work the EXACT SAME way they do on 3DS. The only way it would be cumbersome is because it was designed that way. It's not like you have to physically attach link cables to to anything anymore ffs.

Hell, if it was an MMORPG, they could even do their "streetpass" weirdness online in game instead of irl by passing by someones avatar virtually.

Not putting true Pokemon games on console has hurt Nintendo for years. Maybe someday we'll get a better attempt than "Gale of Darkness" on Gamecube.

CONSOLE POKEMON WOULD PRINT MONEY!

P.S. @drinkerofjuice: Try Dragon Warrior (or Quest) Monster games on DS to get an idea of what 3D pokemon would be like (although it's very different from Pokemon as well).
