Do you want X to be doomed? Why?

With the impending doom of Sony that this board reminds me of daily, I'm curious.

Does anyone here actually want to see one of the big three pull out of gaming? Or out of business altogether? Would it pleas you?

Because it sure does seem that way with some of the comments I've seen. And this isn't in reference to just all the alt accounts around, nor is it just about the sky falling on Sony. But rather its a question aimed at more veteran posters with high level and post-count from all sides of the System War.

And if so, why exactly?

I wouldn't mind seeing MS and their Xbox division dissapear, but I still think we would need another contender. Perhaps a big game dev like Valve or something.

I am not really hoping any of them fail, but MS would be my first pick to go :P. I think losing Sony would be a terrible loss in the console department.

It's all a bunch of kiddie talk, not so much in age, but in attitude.

I want none of them to be doomed. Although I wouldn't mind seeing Kinect disappear, not the 360, but just Kinect.

I don't want to see anyone go, not at all. Competition is a great thing. Without competition we will pay more and get less.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if MS left the race. I don't want them to go at all, but if they did I wouldn't be too bothered about it. They brought console online gaming out of the ghetto and lit a fire under Sonys ass this gen, which are both good things, but if one of the big 3 just had to take an exit I would want it to be them.

Can't think of a rational reason as to why anyone could possibly hope for a loss of jobs and competition. Anyone who does deserves a thorough ass whoopin and a reality check.

I think we've gotten to a point where games don't need to be platform specific, I'd rather see no aggressive moves on platforms so instead of having stupid content and exclusives, we see most of the competition move to the software. And if games weren't tied to platforms, then everyone could play everything, making the game software less risky to make, but more competition in the software side of things.savagetwinkie

I know, I want the competition. I just don't feel MS is doing that much for gaming to be honest. And hell no, Apple is crap. I would say someone like Valve or some company like Samsung or Google making an Android based platform. I don't know if anyone would be better competition honestly, and MS is not all bad, I just have my issues with them, mainly that they don't really produce many good games. I mean they hardly are the ones to push the awesome games. Maybe they will win me over next gen.

I don't wish for any company to fail, I just wish Sony gets hit hard and they get humbled.

I'd be okay with Microsoft going away. Their emphasis on pay-to-play online, meddling in the next-gen format war with HD-DVD, stringing gamers along with DLC, sub-par quality hardware, lack of exclusive studios (going so far as to actually shut first party studios down and SELLING OFF Bungie, I might add), flooding the media with ridiculous advertising budgets (cough Kinect) and overall emphasis on brogamerism has seriously screwed up gaming irreparably. This generation has sucked so hard between MS nickle and diming the hardcore gamer to death and the Wii tearing away the casual gamer.

Xbox is just a marketing juggernaut. As a gamer who has been around since the early 80s, I have never seen a company do more to piss me off. Not even Atari. I would happily buy a new Sega system or even an Apple product if it meant MS would gtfo. Any other company with the failure rate the 360 has had would be shallacked by the media. Any other generation, paying almost the price of the console itself in online fees from launch year would have been called out. Any other generation, the gaming press would have a field day on a major console selling off and slashing it's first party developers. Sony got a black eye and a bloody nose for pushing bluray while Microsoft was handing vouchers to retailers and supporting HD-DVD with a device that was not even HDCP compliant and got a free pass. It took this generation to see exactly how utterly rotten the state of things has become and X marks the spot.
