Poll Do you you think the switch will be a great system ? (112 votes)
uh i feel like its going to be okay, seem like a 3ds but a different design with a controller...

I think Nintendo Switch will do fine on it's own, that is of course if Nintendo can deliver the goods that is and by that I mean killer app MF games at the dawn of launch and a fair price $300 and a quality bundle $400 depends what it comes with.
I already pre-order it just in case and this is a buy day one assuming what games will it have of course.
It's too early to tell, it all depends on the games. The hybrid idea is fantastic and it looks good so far, but it needs the software to be able to back it up.
Yeah, agreed. We'll need to give it a few years to determine what the prospective, sustained support looks like software-wise.
@davillain-: Im gonna buy it for Zelda. Would be cool if it launches with a Wii U port and DLC pack too. A Kid Icarus: Uprising Remake would be awesome too. Then port Pokemon Moon and im all set.
@jcrame10: Will be awesome to find out. I cant wait to test it. Its looks superior in comfort. The other looks like a 15 year old outdated feel.

itd be nice to see Uprising come to a console, updated and without any of the motion controls that the 3DS version suffered from

I was also gonna buy Breath of the Wild for Wii U but since I'm actually gonna buy Switch day one, it makes sense for me to get Breath of the Wild for Switch to go with it as my first launch game for it. No point in me getting it on Wii U when it's already dead ASAP when Switch arrives.
@davillain-: Yeah, im just buying for Wii U as a collectible. I feel Wii U games will be worth a good bit due to poor sales. Will be hot item for collectors. Collectors love small libraries.

We also need it to be January 12th ASAP, I really, really want to see the launch/future lineup. I need a combination of good first party and third party support to justify it being a great system.
I know that goofy ass monstrosity is built in. God, that looks horribad.
seriously what the heck is this !?
It'll be a Nintendo Box and potential secondary system and that's it, anyone who expects otherwise is fooling themselves.
@jcrame10: Xbox Pro controller is sold separately too.
but xbox one still comes with a standard controller, unlike wii u or the switch
.. the switch does come with a normal functionality adaptor.
No. The device is made up of too many individual and small pieces for the quality to be consistent throughout. I can't imagine battery life is going to be all that good either. Rumors of the internal specs hint at a lot of sacrifices to keep a profit margin at a lower price. Not a good combination.
Based on what we know so far on the hardware and how incredible Nintendo's developers are, I think it will be absolutely amazing!
I'm extremely excited
@Pikminmaniac: I was hoping wed get Pikmin 4 at launch, but it seems that 3DS Pikmin games will be used to get more fans first.
Fairly mixed impressions.
The Good: Nice list of developers. All the first party devs contributing to one system (rather than console/handheld split) should lesson droughts. Proper console Pokemon at last? I have an Xbox fanboy mate who's raving about portable Skyrim, so they're at least reaching new "core" gamers, unlike the WiiU. (Wow, get major games and gamers follow, what a mad concept!)
The Bad: Controller looks terribad, buying an extra normal controller will be required. Battery life will be bad and will be weaker then competing systems, cos Nintendo = cheap components. Will have the weakest library of all the consoles again. Big 3rd party game reveal is from 2011, yay? Will it be getting the Elder Scrolls VI?
The Sad: First Nintendo console where I didn't even care about the build up/reveal and have zero excitement. Even managed to convince myself WiiU would be epic, lol. I guess I'm "learning" but it feels a little like the end to childhood. Going from living Nintendo to not even caring. Oh well :P
"Maybe" want to see what games it can handle/it will get.. will it be region free?...will it get Western AAA games if at all,..will JPN games it gets still get censored? etc :P
I like the look of the system & the controller..so far. Don't care about the portability side though. :P
@MBirdy88: that square tablet looking thing? Why can't it come with a switch pro controller? Such an easy concept to grasp why is Nintendo failing like it's their job?
I dunno... the same way a PS4 doesn't come with a friggin vita? want a pro controller buy one...
@jcrame10: a normal controller has buttons analog and dpad so to me that's as normal as u gonna get unless you like tablets without buttons lol

its not shaped like a normal controller. looks uncomfortable compared to a dualshock 4 or xbox controller or gamecube controller
When I was younger I would have dreamed of a device like this. My parents weren't keen on me using the computer for games and there were no consoles in our household. It would have been great for long car trips, boring school classes and various other times.
But now as a working adult, if I've got a bit of spare time I just use my computer. I can't really see how having a portable device would have much use. And as for getting together with friends and doing lan play... I think Nintendo's latest advertising campaign says it all - a bunch of fit young adults dressed for a REAL basketball game sitting in a circle on the floor high-fiving each other over 3 inch screens? Nope, doubt it!
I think that Nintendo are going after the Japanese mobile market over there with the Switch. The success of the 3DS and the fact that Vita still sells 10k/week means there is a market. This is a bid to take on the mobile market - as more of the Japanese seem to play this way with console bit to placate the West.
I personally don't care about whether the games are 1080p/4k because I am a grown up. Hell I play my PS4 on a 720p tv and the games look pretty enough. This intrigues me and could be my first Nintendo system. If they make it compatible with the 3DS games (they use cartridges right?), add an E-reader and decent internet browser then they could clean up.
Interesting times ahead.
At this point if is not more powerful than the PS4 pro than is totally WII-U number 2 again. 3rd parties support will leave them in a year or so and you left with nothing but Mario and some Zelda!
Maybe, maybe not, only time will tell but it does have potential, especially in the younger gamers market. I could see it being a hit with kids of a similar age to my children, far more than the Wii U.
Out of interest, how many successful consoles have you designed and launched? Only asking because you appear to be an expert in the field.
Yes ... I think this offers something unique to the gaming market. It looks like it can offer up current market games on a portable platform. That is huge! Yes I will be buying Skyrim for the 3rd time for the unique experience this system offers. As Im sure many others will.
All these cows making threads on teraflops and ram and 1.21 gigawatz are just missing the point all together. If you care so much about specs why are you even debating consoles?
Everyone comparing to their $500 pokemon go and angry bird devices can take a hike.
Time to make the Switch!

That's bollocks logic. The old "You can't blame a bridge for collapsing, unless you can build a better one!"
I can't build a bridge. I'll still definitely bitch if one I'm walking on disintegrates!
@joebones5000: Calling it a Wii U gamepad is by far and away a facepalm. Your comment is ridiculous.
My answer is: maybe. It has a much better chance than the Wii U, and I think that Nintendo's current strategy (which was formulated by Iwata and co.) makes a lot more sense than what they were doing before.
For me, the big questions are around their new, unified software development teams (console and handheld - Kimishima has said that Nintendo should be able to deliver a higher volume of content each year for Switch, versus the frequent dry spells they had with Wii U - and that obviously remains to be seen). Another big question is how they're going to connect all this up to things like mobile and social media. I think if they get that part right and create something compelling, they'll be in a much better position this time around.
Also, at a broader level...I think Nintendo Switch is just immediately a clearer value proposition than Wii U. Wii U was confusing for many people in ways that Switch is not. So at the very least, I think they'll have a lot less trouble communicating with the market about the unique properties of Switch, which in turn should help them with sales.
@joebones5000: I'm a bit confused about your confusion around the Switch when you say that they "basically just created another GamePad" - how so? From what I can tell by the video, there's absolutely no concept of the Switch having that same kind of dual-screen gameplay between handheld and TV. Either you're playing the console on the TV with the controller (like any normal console) or you're taking it with you remotely.

they need to just make a regular console with good video games
@papermario: What do you mean by "regular"? I still don't understand this - the outcome we all want, surely, is great games. "Regular" is apparently a euphemism for something, but I'm not sure what. There's no Wii Remote this time, so you can't be referring to the interaction method. Is "regular" a euphemism for hardware power or something else?
