Just curious.Zero5000Xyes because every sytem has potential. I do not see the PS 3 having more then the 360. Don't let the hype get to you.

Why wouldn't the PS3 have more potential than the 360? More powerful hardware means the potential in what it could possibly do is higher.

I disagree with that, I think the PS3 does have more potential.
But potential means nothing, Kwame Brown had more potential than anybody when he entered the NBA, now he's probably the most laughed at basketball player.
So cows, don't brag about potential cause it might turn out to be like Kwame Brown.
[QUOTE="Kaosed"]i deny it, if it has more potential, why is it getting pwned by the 360 and the wii?Zero5000X
Do you even know what the word potential means?
yea i do, next time u quote my posts, be sure u know hos to answer.
the ps3 has potential, but sony is just wasting it
Potential is what it could possibly acheive. It has nothing to do with current state. I can't see why anyone would thnik the PS3 has less potential. More powerful hardware and larger disc storage means more potential.Zero5000XWhy hasn't the existence of this "more powerful hardware" shown up in any... you know, games?

I agree the Ps3 couldn't have any less potential than it does now It will get better, but the point of the thread is saying does it have more potential gaming power then the 360. I think after seeing a full year of games on the Ps3 the definitive answer is a resounding NO. And it definitely will never reach the potential that Sony clams.
What gives the PS3 this potential? BluRay? What makes it so different and better in its resting state than the 360?Jandurin

The only thing the Ps 3 has over the 360 is the CPU and disk space. I believe there may be some games too physic intensive that the 360 will not be able to handle while theremay be some graphic and ai intensive games that the PS3 will not be able to handle.[QUOTE="Jandurin"]What gives the PS3 this potential? Its a pipedream. On its own the RSX is an inferior GPU (albiet by a small amount) and the Cell can only offer so much before it eats into its own performance. How people see two consoles, both with 512 MB's RAM, both with similarly clocked GPU's, both with 3.2ghz CPU's and imagine some huge difference graphics is beyond me.
It isn't going to happen, so stop expecting it to.

So!! the Xenos and Xenon together can potentially do the same. At the end of the day we will never know. stop worrying about potential and the future and be concerned with the now. Who cares what systemhas more potential, just play games for fun.[QUOTE="Zero5000X"]graphics? The Cell and RSX together can potentially (that word again) produce much better graphics than the 360.

The Xbox and GCN were more powerful last gen compared to PS2, yet they lost. The 360 and PS3 are more powerful than the Wii, yet they are losing to it.
The PS3 has a ton of potential. The question is if developers will realize its potential before it's too late...BioShockOwnz
Well how much potential does it really have? It theoreticly has a more powerful CPU but its an Asymmetrical design that totally dependant on parallel processing. Parallelism is still one of the big challenges in computer science today. On top of that the Ps3 memory architecture is bottlenecked. Good luck with that Dev's

Honestly, graphics will likely remain on par imo. I think the real advantages the PS3 has are the Cell and Blu-ray. Blu-ray means games could be bigger, more expansive worlds, more content, more maps, etc. The Cell can do more calculations and can do them faster than the 360 CPU. I doubt we will see this anytime soon though. I'd say late 2009 at the soonest.

No, it doesn't. The only limitations on game size are time and money. No-one is going to care if a game is on 2 DVD's or one Blu Ray disc: certainly not developers.

If Blu-ray really takes off in a big way, then the PS3 is sitting pretty. But both HD formats have failed to do as well as regular DVD's. Until the mainstream goes more HD, then most people won't even care about the Blu-ray player. It may be too late then. Who knows. We'll have to wait and see.
We see the "potential" already, MGS4, FF13, GT5and KZ2 shows some potential. I cant think of one 360 game that blows any of those away. You can throw in Alan Wake or Mass Effect.. but i see more "potential" in the futurePS3 line up as of now. PS never had a strong opening year if you think about it. All the amazing games will come over five years..... BOOK IT!!!Gamersince81Oh, so you just mean potential to have games as good as are already on the 360?
Potential is a bad choice of words for this. It has much more to do with efficiency then anything.
PC's will always have more potential then consoles. Their hardware changes and improves every couple of months where as consoles are static for years at a time.
But it's the efficiency of that hardware where things differ.
PC's will never have the same level of efficient code that consoles do. There are far too many variations that exclude the kind of optimizations consoles benefit from. But they also don't need it because they will always have more raw power to throw at the problem.
Take the PS2 for example: It's a PII-300 yet for the 6-years following it's release developers optimized the code for that hardware. The result, God of War 2 was a great title but had it been developed for the PC you can rest assured it would not have run on the equivalent hardware.
Also potential is just that, and if it's never fully realized then it never really matters...as seen with the DreamCast.

Well idk. I read that some devs eliminate content from multiplats so that i can fit on a DVD9. 2 discs aren't really good for certain games either. Such as a game like UT3.
Yes, the PS3 has more potential, and no it is not being fully reallized now.
And, dear god, from a relative newbie on these boards. Does everyone have to go crazy over 'System Wars' and defending there systems and dissing the others? I'm the happy owner of a 360, PS3, DS, and PSP.

i believe 2009 is when the HD jump is expected to occur.
