Does anyone else think GTA IV is terrible?

It's not terrible but definately not a 10/10. I was disappointed when I first played it and dont play it anymore. GTA3, VC, and SA were alot better in my opinion.

Probably one of the biggest disappointments in my personal gaming history.

That's critical acclaim, it means the "proffesionals" rated it highly, universal is when you can say "OMG THIS GAME IS REALLY FREAKING AWESOME" and not be instanly raped

So it isn't that GTA is one of the most long standing game franchises in gaming history and it was always going to be massively hyped, and therefore, bought?

Also, you can hardly say that it is a bad game, per se. That originality is gone, and I think that they took a step too far back from the massive character customisability of GTA:SA. But then again, it would be hard to go a step further with customisability after SA, and I think they wanted to make it more realistic, more immersive from a storyline perspective.

The game is, after all, alot more story driven than previous GTA games.

I think most complaints seem to stem from the lack of replayability & loss of variety. Im only a 33% thru the game so I cant answer

Looks like GTA IV decided to leave the immature behind, and progress with the mature. Finally, a GTA game that's got an adult rating and has a lot more mature stuff to ponder about. Since that looks like the case, Saint's Row 2 looks to be the spiritual successor to San Andreas. That game looks good in its own right, but it's not trying to compete with GTA IV. So whilst you underage kids can get your chainsaw freak on in SR2, I'm gonna be sitting back watching some Weazel News and surfing craplist.net. Utter, freakin', hilarious.FrozenLiquid

online is brutal. so many damn loading screens back and forth. nobody plays cops n crooks in player matches, which makes it impossible to learn. 45 minutes trying to get into a game. ridiculous. other games, not much easier to get more than 6 ppl in a game.Big_T-Mac

most ppl play ranked- thats where all the achievements are at & yes u do need some patience

I dont think you would be calling it terrible if it didnt score 10's across the board.

I mean, I think the fact this game has basically been called "perfect" by so many websites that is has come under fire for the most minor flaws. If this game got a 9.0 or 9.5 I dont think it would have received so much critisicm, which is ironic to say.

It's not the kind of GTA you can simply have fun by instantly getting all the weapons and the helicopter and going crazy. What actually makes this GTA really enjoyable is mostly not using cheats and playing through normally. It's more fun in that sense than any other GTA.munu9

I completely agree with this post.

GTA IV is less fun than the others in running around causing havoc, but the SP storyline in GTA IV was by far my favorite in a GTA game, and instantly elevated the series in my mind to a series that could be a relevant, story driven game.

And the MP is rather fun with a group of friends.

I used to love GTA, i remember the hours my friends and i would spend on it,but it seems IV lacks...fun.

Im not sure, maybe im too mature for GTA,although legally i have never been old enough to play it, maybe its too mature for me to fully enjoy?

It is not on the same level as those games. GTAIV hasn't innovated or done anything new, they just fixed up old-content that's been done a million times.

It's a fun game, but to compare it to other games up there on the scores like those just pisses me off.

Actually in general their opinion is more valid than yours. Because they have experience in judging wether a game is good or not. They have more to compare to and therefore can judge better. They've probably reviewed more games than you've played. Though I guess if you're just talking about yourself, yes your opinion is more valid to you than anyone else's opinion...

The the masses there opinion is more Valid i guess, but to me,everyone ahs an equal opinion, i could care less how much games they review, i base game quality on its own merits,not the merits of lesser games.

I'm guessing your opinion would've been taken with more merit had you not said it was "terrible". An overall blockbuster hit which reviewed and sold higher than any game this year. Yeah, you can have your opinion and I respect it to a degree, but it's far out there, man.

Obviously i worded it strong to gain the attention of other with strong opinions, i dont think its terrible, its just not the game everyone says it is and certainly not what it was hyped to be.

I dunno wat wen wrong. I mean all they had to do was take everything in San Andreas and then add the new features and this game would have been golden! And they coulda brought in a new city instead of going back to Liberty City because LC was the smallest of the GTA places and you cant just increase the land mass of an entire city when you feel like it.
