Just wondering where people stood on this topic...

before I get flamed to death let me say that, I like (not love) MGS series, I respect Kojima (as well as many others) for his ability to add to the hobby we all hold so dear and in no way was this thread created with any fanboyistic intentions and or malicious hatred towards a certain class of people... The fact that I have to even right a disclaimer is actually kind of funny...

I've just never gotten the whole aura of god thing some gamers have dubbed him... He's pretty good, nothing more, nothing less....

I love Metal Gear, but I do agree that Hideo Kojima does get too much praise. It puzzles me when people compare him to the likes of Miyamoto and Yu Suzuki.

You do realize that MGS isn't the only games Hideo has worked on right? He's a living legend IMO. He's the Hitori Hanzo of videogames.

Nope...He derserves it...what other game even compares to his games?

Story? NOPE

Attention to detail? NOPE

Character creations? NOPE

Dialog? NOPE

MGS is in a league of its own..its deep, epic and can hit someone on emotional levels. Just because your the tpyical...average violence and shooter nut, that can't get by with alteast 10 cups of coffee a day, doesn't mean the MAN Kojimas overrated.

I played so many games but have never seen anything like MGS. EMotionally, gameplay, and so much more. He is no Miyamoto but the third greatest.

I just looked up his history on IMDB.com (extremely reputable mass entertainment site) I'd say over 90 percent of his life works are on Metal Gear games...

It's not that the gameplay isn't great. It just hasn't been the best (MGS3). MGS4 will most likely change that as far as for 3rd person shooting goes.

How is he praised too much? He only has made a game that has a story to be one of the greatest story telling games in gaming history. I would be praising him aswell since the story in my opinion is the most important thing in a game, but also the gameplay has to be enjoyable or people wont even bother. But Kojima is just a master at what he does and that is draw his fans in with his amazing story telling and that takes the game to a whole nother level because it makes u want to play the game through to see what happens next. I think the gameplay in MGS2 & MGS3 is great however it seems to have to little. However MGS: PO fixed that problem in my opinion.

He created and nearly perfected the stealth action genre. He also created the amazing Zone of the Enders series (please make a third :( ) and a few other gems. He deserves all the recognition and praise he receives.

high production values... absolutly... great story... eh, debatable... Its got some good elements and some really skippable stuff. Sorry, its just my honest opinion. I would say games like KOTOR or even mass effect more currantly blow mgs storylines out of the water...

Oh absolutely. He seems to be praised more of qualities he shows glimpses of or that only manifest themselves ever so slightly in his games, rather than on the substance of what comes across in the final products which aren't really amazingly genius at all.

I hear a lot of MGS fanboys (and they inevitably will now) focus far too much on how clever something is when the end effect on the player is slight at best and boils down to in many cases simply being fanservice.

That's not always true, if that's the case then you're saying Mass Effect>all movies.

Edit: you can also leave those pictures to systemwars.com, they're pretty annoying.

video games are not movies though. the idea is controling your character and influencing the world around it so if a game has a great story that you can influence its going to better the a predetermined great story that you cant

i like bringing them with me when i come over here.

Where is the part of the Poll where I say, I dissagree with you and find your poll to be poorly worded. May I suggest a proper poll?

1.Yes I agree with you

2.No I do not agree with you.

3.I love the gears made of metal for the one is the la li lu le lo bananajama *because you feel the need for a humorous vote on your poll*

Yeah but it's nothing compared to the unwarranted praise Miyamoto gets.

video games are not movies though. the idea is controling your character and influencing the world around it so if a game has a great story that you can influence its going to better the a predetermined great story that you cant

i like bringing them with me when i come over here.

I don't agree with that, and it's pretty black and white in Mass Effect it's not like everything you do changes the ending.

He makes my favorite series (right alongside with Half Life) therefore, he is my hero.

Never been a fan. I played MGS2 Sons of Liberty on the PS2 and was supprised that it was so well received by PS2 owners. I thought it wasn't as good as some of the last generation N64 games I had played like Perfect Dark and Banjo Tooie.

He created and nearly perfected the stealth action genre. He also created the amazing Zone of the Enders series (please make a third :( ) and a few other gems. He deserves all the recognition and praise he receives.Not-A-Stalker

Get your facts right-Thief came at around the same time as Metal Gear Solid and did far more than the Metal Gear series has ever done. The rest, though, is quite true, except the last sentence; I feel that people like Warren Spector and Dennis Dyack, though they receive less praise, are more worthy of the adulation received by Kojima due to their status as visionaries rather than simply stellar developers. Like Stanley Kubrick and Orson Welles versus Tim Burton, they are the ones who have and continue to move the medium forward, while Kojima simply strives for excellence in the preexisting confines of gaming development. They are all excellent in their own rights, but the latter does not deserve to be considered above the former, thus making, in my eyes, the praise for Kojima unwarranted until it is reduced to the level given to the aforementioned men, or the praise for them is raised to the level of it granted to Kojima.

Metal Gear Solid is an exceptional franchise and he is going to deliver one of the best stories gaming has to offer with Metal Gear Solid 4.

He has worked his way up from Policenauts, Snatcher, and producing games like Zone of the Enders and Lunar Knights.

He is no Miyamoto or Will Wright. But i think he can make a claim for number 3.
