Every generation adds something new to the controller, which eventually becomes the standard:
Third Generation: Made D-pad standard Fourth generation: Made Shoulder buttons and 4 button face standard Fifth Generation: Made analog / Dual analog / Rumble the standard Sixth Generation: ... Nothing really in terms of the controller, but added basic online to consoles. Seventh Generation: ... At least some form of motion the standard. (As were seeing with the WiiU) Eighth Generation: built in touchscreen controller the standard??
So whether you like it or not, motion gaming is here to stay, and will be considered the norm in controllers with time, just like rumble, etc.
