I enjoyed R* last gen, but this gen I think their focus has shifted from my own interests tbh. I liked the old GTAs because they were fun, now they seem to want to get as real as they can. Sometimes this works, but not with GTA. I liked the way RDR played, but it's not a GTA game, so I guess my own expectations didn't hamper the experience. Still, RDR had zero replay value to me, and I sold it not long after completing it.
I don't think OoT is the best game ever like everyone else seems to. Sure nostalgia makes you think it's the greatest game ever but I felt other Zelda's were way better. I definitely think GTA IV deserves it's scores though.
My point? We all have opinions. If you don't agree, who cares. If GTAIV got a 9 like everyone cries that it should have gotten, would your life have changed? Would you somehow have enjoyed it more? Would by some miracle would you have found the cure for AIDS if GTAIV got a 9?
The game was good, but didn't deserve a 10. I would have given it a 9.0-9.5 overall. MGS IV didn't deserve a 10 either. both games got overrated on this site.I don't think so.
I know there are tons of Rockstar fans here but I am sorry, I don't think GTA IV deserves scores that high.
I think it's a good game but not a masterpiece, not OoT.
The only game so far that I think deserves what it got is OoT.
I think GTA franchise is somehow overrated as well. Let's face it, westerners prefer violence nowadays, the reviewers even praise violence.
Hell, there is an emblem for violence in gamespot review.
Rockstar is lucky as Blizzard,ND or somebody else like Bioware or Valve don't make games in that genre, if not, they are probably in a great challenge now.

GTA IV is a great game, and I am a huge HUGE GTA fan, it's my favorite game ever (not GTA IV, just GTA in general)
But I don't think GTA IV deserved a 10, it should have gotten a 9 and heres why:
GTA San Andreas a PS2, Xbox and 2005 PC game features that GTA IV a PS3, 360, and 2009 PC game you could:
Swim underwater (ok kindof boring and didn't do it much, but it was useful sometimes and still why not add it?)
Fly planes, hell GTA III even had that crappy DoDo plane, GTA IV does not
Jet Pack (not realistic, but if you want realistic play a sim GTA IV is no where NEAR real life and all you people trying to ruin my FUN games with "Realism" need to quit complaining about stuff that is FUN)
Way more vehicles (there were tons of vehicles in San Andreas, including a forklift, tow truck, and you could attach a trailer to a Semi Truck)
Way more customization (Why take this feature out? everybody loved being able to customize their character)
More things to do (The side missions in GTA IV were better in quality IMO, however there were not a lot of them, and they took out Vigilate, Paramedic, Firefighting etc.)
vehicle modifications (This was a blast to take a car to a mod shop and fix it up and make it look nice, feature not in GTA IV).
Now why they took these features out? Probably to fit the setting of the character, where you're poor and can't afford to do all this stuff. Which is actually a good thing, during the story, but for crying out loud, let us unlock these features somehow AFTER the story was over, that way you can keep the serious side to the story, and still have the fun after.
Good things about GTA IV
Graphics, Story was more serious and people I know who never used to complete GTA games actually finished this one. Multiplayer (although the lobbies sucked! Red Dead Redemption does a much better job at this than GTA IV for deathmatch ETC.) GTA IV's multiplayer was crazy fun with a group of friends however....and that's about it
GTA IV was a huge step backwards in terms of features, however in gameplay, graphics, multiplayer, and story was a step forward, now all they have to do is combine the good story next time, with the free roam fun that we all miss from Vice City, and San Andreas
GTA IV gets a 9 from me
I think it does the game took a more serious approach while it worked for some others felt let down . R* made an immersive world thriving with life and when it was released we had never seen an open world game at that level ever. The narrative was amazing some of the best voice acting since vice city IMO . While they stripped the game of extra stuff to do like eat work out and customize car the game focused more on a story driven element , and more realistic approach . The expansions added a lot to the gameplay new modes extra fun stff to do and each added a whole new story which connected 3peoples lives.in a artistic way 3 lives one connection .this game did deserve a 10 while some may disagree this is easily my 2nd favorite GTA next too vice city.SpArKs424
GTA4 is ahead of it's time, give it another 10 years and then the rest of the industry will have caught up by then.Im_single

eh? I'm sure Vigilante is still in, just use the computer in any police car to start one.[QUOTE="tomarlyn"]I do think so The effort that whent into that game is amazing, bursting with lively detail in every nook and cranny. Full of great gameplay, varied experiences and replay value.Stringerboy
But the gameplay is boring...
Shootouts and racing is boring?GTA 4 is AAA at most, MGS4 deserves even lower. MGS4 is the only game that I just WANTED to end and not because I was excited, but to finally stop watching the stupid boring ass ending cutscene and their blabbering.
Nah, It's a good game with some pretty glaring flaws. The fact this game got so many amazing scores across the board shows what's wrong with video game journalism: hype.
Yes, GTA4's world was detailed and believable, but the gameplay got so tiresome that I quit halfway through. The lack of checkpoints coupled with some really long missions hurt the game and made them all a chore to play through. I'm not one to complain about difficulty, but it just wasn't fun.

But the gameplay is boring...
Shootouts and racing is boring? To be honest, I don't think those were the strongest part of the gameplay. The driving itself was great imo, but the street races are ridiculously easy. The combat is way more intelligent than in previous GTA games, but the shooting itself I thought was still uninspired and the cover system didn't function all that well.
That doesn't mean it's not the best GTA gameplay-wise to date, though, because I think it is. The missions are more fun, the driving is good, and the AI is decent for once (remember the sped-up cars from San Andreas?), and the environment is really the best video game representation of a big city I've seen to date. But I ask myself how long I would've continued playing this game if it didn't have an interesting story, because I still find the core gameplay to be good, but not very remarkable. Some elements I also thought could've used a bit more attention, such as the annoying trial and error element that has been present in all previous GTA games, the annoying friend system and the simplistic illusion of moral choices.
