Are you guys annoyed at the fact that Wii will never reach PS3/360 graphics or do you not care that the graphics aren't amazing?

Most of the Wii bashing threads seem to be focused on graphics lately (since we all expect some great games to be released after the massive sales the console has had), yet DS is proof that you don't need to have amazing graphics in this day and age to have fun.

I personally don't really care that Wii's graphics aren't great. I'm interested to see how devs are creative in the future with the Wiimote since the possibilities are pretty much endless. The only thing that annoys me is that it would be pretty cool to see Super Mario Galaxy with Ratchet and Clank Future for PS3's graphics since Mario pretty much rules the platforming genre. It's a bit disappointing that SSBB ain't using the Wiimote but I still think the game will be great.

Anyway, does it bother you that Wii doesn't have "awesome" graphics? What do you guys think?

EDIT: Added a poll since it was hard to distinguish what the general consensus on this issue was due to the very mixed responses in the thread.

Well, I bought 5 games for it already and the lack of graphical power compared to the other two hasn't bothered me.

I don't really care about the graphics (but it does add more enjoyment in the games.). If I can tell what's what then I'm happy. All I care is about the games. Mostly SSBB, SMG and MP3. So I'm happy with the wii's graphics.

I own a Wii, I have since it launched in America, and I don't care.

I was satisfied with graphics last generation. The jump was remarkable in my opinion. It was no longer a mess of pixels or a jumble of polygons which vaguely resembled a person, instead it looked like an actual person. I remember being very excited about Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, if nothing else, just because I'd finally be able to see exactly what the hell Liquid Snake's face actually looks like.

And I'm happy with that. Things look like what they're supposed to be, and anything beyond that is, IMO, nice but unnecessary.

I think some games would be amazing with excellent graphics, like Zelda as you mentioned and I'd personally love it if Super Mario Galaxy had Ratchet type graphics, but some games...many games, don't really need great graphics to work well as proven by many of the best DS games, NSMB, Pokemon Diamond, Advance Wars DS, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center etc.

Actually, after playing Wii Sports for a couple hours, the plain heads and dull bodies of your character started to get REALLY annoying after a while.  Luckily I had TP with me and all that anger at Wii Sports' graphics faded away... slowly.

the bad graphics doesn't really bother, its the lack of games. PS360 is getting a lot of third party support and i want these games. i don't want psp ports and collections of minigames

same here also I have a 360 if I want to play a game with great graphics but people act like once you play a 360 game you would never want to play the Wii again but I've never had that problem yet.

Games like Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Transformers Wii show great potential. The Wii games will never be

comparable to Xbox 360 or PS3, but I do believe that it will soon distinguish itself from the original Xbox.

Great graphics are nice, but given the circumstances I am glad that the Wii didn't go the technical route. The Wii

would be ridiculously expensive if it had similar specs. I am willing to sacrifice graphics for motion control

because I see myself owning every gaming platform as soon as the price is right, Honestly, the graphics have

never once effected how much fun I had with a game. All I want is something that looks clean and smoot;

it doesn't have to be dazzling.

Also: Damn Gamspot formatting errors!

It depends on the game. I enjoyed TP and GoW 2 even though they have last gen graphics. Hell, I still enjoy SNES games right now. The only problem I see is that the Wii limits games overall, in my opinion. But it also a very cheap console, trade off I guess. Do games need incredible graphics? No, but it sure does add to the overall experience.

Truthfully...... Yes it does, i mean why cant Nintendo make a console that competes graphically with MS or SOny Consoles?

Imagine a Zelda game with Kameo graphics!!!!

It enhances the experience, at least for me it does.

I have a HDTV i like looking at high defintion PQ

Mkavanaugh77

Why did nintendo not beef up pwer too much this gen?

Well it lowers cost, no big HDtv penetration for many more years, makes it easier and less costly to develope for so small developers can afford to make games, the Wii is a risk so if a game failes it will takes less loss, if the Wii failed nintendo would take less loss as well, Answer your question?

I'm kinda dissapointed at the Wii, the games are a lot minigame like and many of the main ones don't seem too appealing, and I realy wish it could do more advanced graphics, AI and Physics (so far maybe). It's a shame though since the Wiimote sounds like such a nice concept.

Assuming that implementing the Wiimote as a major selling point of their console is quite a risk, so keeping it on the safe side by not investing so much tech would allow to take this chance in cased they failed miserably they could recover. Basically, they didn't want to put all their eggs in one basket. I expect much more of a substatial leap in power in their next console. Hopefully.

i wouldve liked to see kraid or bowser in HD, so yeah im disappointed. they couldve got a dal on some $50 chips that would at least be comparable to 360/ ps3 graphics and made only $50 profit on each console instead of $400( i saw somewhere it costs them only $150 to make each one) they couldve even sold it for $300 and made the same profit and they sill would be sold out IMO. they just dropped the ball and as this gen moves on the graphics will only seem worse as ps3 and 360 start to show their full potential.

I'll let you know if I get bothered or not once I play a game in where I expect level of graphics that are supposed to be greater than the GC.

Since practically everything is a port so far (or a cartoon style game) I can't say I'm bothered yet.

Nah, Super Paper Mario bothers me the most. Those graphics could've been done by the N64. What also annoys me is what others have said already. Like The Legend of Zelda games. I would've liked to see the next Zelda game with graphics as powerful as a PS3 game. You don't need good graphics to enjoy a game, but Twilight Princess didn't have that "Wow factor" when you first started playing Ocarina of Time. I want to experience that again. Twilight Princess does have good graphics though.

No, Nintendo realized that it would be futile to compete in a graphics race with Sony and Microsoft. Judging by sales figures, I'd say that they made the right decision.;) Finally, if a game has decent graphics and great gameplay, why should I care?

I don't think so. I mean look at the first paper mario game. It came out in 2001(close to the end of N64). Now if you compared it to SPM you can see that SPM look 10 times better than Paper Mario. Really the N64 couldn't do SPM graphics.

I'm happy to trade "awesome" graphics for a console that:

Cost $250 and came with a fun pack-in game.

Plays all my GameCube games perfectly.

Has a high likelihood of achieving the critical sales momentum to keep software support from being sporadic and short-lived.

Every product is a set of compromises.  The Wii is what Nintendo needed to make in order to succeed in this generation.

This generation, they couldn't include that in the product and succeed.

It doesn't bother me that the Wii is NOT up to par with 360/PS3, because simply the 360 will be my prime source of exclusive and 3rd party games. With PS3, I'll wait in a few years to buy one, as the price goes down.

I've finally settled for what Nintendo has set out to do....to capture the non-gaming casual market. And the fact Nintendo will NEVER EVER be popular with 3rd party games. I've finally accepted that reality. Which is why the Wii will be my prime source for Nintendo games.

Graphics that are comparable to the last generation of gaming....does that bother me?

hmmmm, let me see....$299 (canada) for a Gamecube with a new controller....nothing but Mario Games eventually, while Sony and Microsoft release graphical masterpieces with incredible gameplay as well....

Oh, and for teh record, one game destroys Sheep's arguement that you don't need great graphics when gameplay is fun: VIVA PINATA. Aimed at the exact same audience as 99% of Nintendo games, Pinata is fun, a never ending gameplay experience that does have awesome graphics. End of story, stop making excuses for being cheap.

Absolutely.  I make no secret of the fact that I enjoy good graphics, and they're an important part of my gaming experience.  I am not at all comfortable with maying $250 for a machine that's in some ways lacking campared to the graphical features of a last-gen console.

Not really, it's because Ninty does not have alot of money like MS and Sony. MS and Sony have other products and Ninty is in game business only. Ninty cannot take a loss on hardware like MS and Sony. It's obvious Ninty decided to make a small upgrade for the wii, only because they did not know if the wii-mote was going to be accepted and sell well. Just imagine Ninty makes a expensive console with good graphics and the wii-mote and it fails horrible, Ninty would of loss alot of money.

But now since the wii-mote has been accepted, I can see the next console would be very powerful like it's cometitors with maybe a updated wii-mote.

I wasn't expecting Super Paper Mario to have "awesome" graphics. I had been looking at screenshots and videos months before the game came out. Graphics weren't the reason I bought SPM, and it sure as hell wasn't the reason I bought the Wii.

But now since the wii-mote has been accepted, I can see the next console would be very powerful like it's cometitors with maybe a updated wii-mote.

If Nintendo doesn't have the money to hang with the big boys (they have plenty of money, BTW), they shouldn't be in the console race.  Also the fact that the machine makes a profit for Nintendo means that they could have improved the hardware without selling the console for a loss.

I could imagine Zelda with Kameo graphics - but then I would imagine the pricetag, and cringe.

It could be even just 50 or something more.

Not really, it's because Ninty does not have alot of money like MS and Sony. MS and Sony have other products and Ninty is in game business only. Ninty cannot take a loss on hardware like MS and Sony.  Nintendo does have money maybe not as much as MS or Sony but still

I'm not saying that they should go on a big loss, all I say is, the Wii doesn't have HDD, the whole mandatory Wiisports deal is kinda dumb to m, I'm not even asking for it to output in HD, just a bit more powerful hardware keeping the other features it has (or lacks in this case) would be nice and not cost them that much.

Would also mean Nintendo wouldn't be making money.  They aren't Sony or MS who do stuff other than console gaming.  People always seem to think that it's a crime that Nintendo manages to make money off what they do as a business.  Well since Nintendo is rolling in the money now, they'll have a bit more flexibility when it comes to the next generation.

There will always be a loss on hardware, Ninty really doesnt go in that route. Yeah they are making money but that doesnt mean they are going to take a loss.
