[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]If Nintendo doesn't have the money to hang with the big boys (they have plenty of money, BTW), they shouldn't be in the console race. Also the fact that the machine makes a profit for Nintendo means that they could have improved the hardware without selling the console for a loss. RahnAetas

Would also mean Nintendo wouldn't be making money. They aren't Sony or MS who do stuff other than console gaming. People always seem to think that it's a crime that Nintendo manages to make money off what they do as a business. Well since Nintendo is rolling in the money now, they'll have a bit more flexibility when it comes to the next generation.

It's not a crime for them to make money.  I'm saying that for us, the consumers, we get less bang for our buck from a Wii than we do for a 360 or PS3.

..ya, since the Wii cost 200 bucks to make, while the PS3 cost 800 bucks to make. ;)

Can't argue with that.  Sony is the guy that goes "For 600 dollars I'll give you 800 dollars worth of goodies."  Nintendo is gouging people by going "For 250 dollars I'll give you 150 dollars worth of goodies"

Are you guys annoyed at the fact that Wii will never reach PS3/360 graphics or do you not care that the graphics aren't amazing?

Most of the Wii bashing threads seem to be focused on graphics lately (since we all expect some great games to be released after the massive sales the console has had), yet DS is proof that you don't need to have amazing graphics in this day and age to have fun.

I personally don't really care that Wii's graphics aren't great. I'm interested to see how devs are creative in the future with the Wiimote since the possibilities are pretty much endless. The only thing that annoys me is that it would be pretty cool to see Super Mario Galaxy with Ratchet and Clank Future for PS3's graphics since Mario pretty much rules the platforming genre. It's a bit disappointing that SSBB ain't using the Wiimote but I still think the game will be great.

Anyway, does it bother you that Wii doesn't have "awesome" graphics? What do you guys think?

graphics arent the only thing the wii is missing, its also about POWER.

More bang for your buck with the 360 or PS3? Hardware wise, definately.
Problem is, you're not just getting more bang for your buck, you're paying more bucks for the bang.

And for someone like me, who refuses to pay more than $300 for a console, I view Nintendo's efforts here as something that keeps them with a healthy reserve of cash and the product within a reasonable price range. I like that a lot more than what MS and Sony are doing.

Nope, I've been playing since graphics were pixelated blobs on the screen, gameplay, story, etc. are always more important to me

[QUOTE="Wanderer5"]I not bother. Super Paper Mario look great IMO. Can't wait for Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3.majadamus

Nah, Super Paper Mario bothers me the most. Those graphics could've been done by the N64. What also annoys me is what others have said already. Like The Legend of Zelda games. I would've liked to see the next Zelda game with graphics as powerful as a PS3 game. You don't need good graphics to enjoy a game, but Twilight Princess didn't have that "Wow factor" like when you first started playing Ocarina of Time. I want to experience that again. Twilight Princess does have good graphics though.

You should not expect paper-based characters to have "awesome" graphics.

I wasn't expecting Super Paper Mario to have "awesome" graphics. I had been looking at screenshots and videos months before the game came out. Graphics weren't the reason I bought SPM, and it sure as hell wasn't the reason I bought the Wii.

Nah, Super Paper Mario bothers me the most. Those graphics could've been done by the N64..

I don't think so. I mean look at the first paper mario game. It came out in 2001(close to the end of N64). Now if you compared it to SPM you can see that SPM look 10 times better than Paper Mario. Really the N64 couldn't do SPM graphics.

..well, ok..maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration, maybe the Dreamcast could've done SPM's graphics?

Whoa, I love the art style and the general look of SPM, I love the Paper Mario games they look so clean and smooth, and the characters and environments have a certain charm about them. I impressed every new Iteration, the art direction is amazing.

I've kind of evolved to the point where awesome graphics aren't real important to me.  As long as there's no lag and the characters and environments look good in an artistic way, I'm satisfied... but I don't need Gears of War graphics to be happy.

I don't care that it has last-gen graphics.... What bothers me is how much it costs for revamped Gamecube hardware..... $250 when GC launched at $200 6 years ago. Spells rip-off to me. Still want one though just not at that outrageous price.

What is awesome graphics? We don't share the share same pair of eyes. So no, I personally don't care, I am satified with what I am seeing, evenmore is what I am I playing. How do you depict a painter from a photographic, both does art, one more simplier fashion, the other a higher techinical way. You can be awed by both representation of a sky. The artist may only have so many colors, while having that vision/representation of beauty in his head.

Absolutely. I make no secret of the fact that I enjoy good graphics, and they're an important part of my gaming experience. I am not at all comfortable with maying $250 for a machine that's in some ways lacking campared to the graphical features of a last-gen console.

However if you asked me what my biggest problem with the Wii is, I would say lack of RAM.  It's not only the most crippling limit placed on the Wii, its also the cheapest to improve.

RahnAetas

Yeah I don't quite understand the small amount of RAM that's available for the Wii either.

is it 256 or what ?

Don't blame Nintendo then, blame the available technology.  They don't exactly have control over how much it costs to produce the hardware for the Wii.  They can only pick *what* they'll be using.  Try building a PC on a budget and you'll find yourself chopping things out, downgrading, doing this balancing act to get the right CPU, motherboard, videocard, and RAM.

Graphics ARE important. Look at FFXII on PS2: the graphics are gorgeous. Now, the WII is graphically much more powerful than the PS2 so we WILL have even better graphics and we just need to ask for them (if we say we don't care, developers will not care either in providing us good artistic value and we'll keep getting garbage like the Far Cry port or basic cartoonish things...)

So, let's be aware that our Wii can sport impressive graphics too and is not a toy machine, ok? ;)

 cheers,

No, it doesn't bother me as much as it apparently bothers you. All you people going on about how much the Wii cost and Nintendo making a profit...well...you know what?  Paying out $250 is easier to swallow than $600 to play some videogames to me. I don't care about the Blu-ray or the HD, because I have yet to get a HDTV; so with the PS3, I'm paying all that money for those extras that I don't need.  You can stow that, "you get more bang for your buck nonsense," because that's not the case for everyone.

Are you kidding ? I have not bought one game for Wii, and probably won't buy another one until the next zelda, why buy games that look like garbage, i am not that rich, i rather spend my money on th AMAZING 360 games like Oblivon, Gears and the coming Mass Effect, Bioshock, Lost Odyssey Simply put, Wii is a 4-5 game system for me, maybe the next zelda if it feels fresh, maybe that isometric RPG withthe dragons, and just maybe sadness game for now, those are the only gamesi have a slight interest in

It's 88 MB.  Quite a far cry from the 512 MB of the 360/PS3.

Whether or not you would use the Blu-Ray or HD capabilities, you're still getting it.  I really don't see how you could possibly dispute my point.

The wii is a overclocked gamecube with more memory so devs should have no problems making games graphically equal to the gamecube imo. However the old gamecube games look better than what's out for the wii and that is a big deal to me. The wii is supposed to be stronger than the old xbox but ninja gaiden and riddick kill even the upcoming games imo that just wrong.

This has stopped me from buying a wii filled with ports from the ps2 and gamecube, with mini games. The games suck imo and a next gen console should look better than the old one not just say oh we have motion and a low price buy me.

Doesn't bother me too much. The exact same thing happened to the DS, tons of crappy ports and shovelware. Before you knew it, the DS had loads of great games, and still. Once the Wii is settled, it will have not only good games, but fairly good looking ones.

To answer The Very Best's question: No, graphics are just a representation of an idea. If a game's concept and basic idea is good, that determines the actual game. Graphics are just filler afterwards. I can appreciate the beautiful graphics and the artstlye of a game, but I won't put down a game just because it looks bad (unless it sucks to begin with). I hope that makes sense.

When I first got a chance to play it I was a little underwhelmed. I'd thought there'd be a little more effort into it(Miis and Wii Sports mind you)... Then I played Wii Tennis and instantly saw the value in the Wii.

Then again, graphics has never been a major factor for me to enjoy a game more than another. If anyone has had a chance to play an MMO called Gunz, although the graphics are turd, IMO I love to play it. Few games have managed to tell me graphics have a place. Suprisingly two that have are Zelda Windwaker and LocoRoco.

Yes. I'm not going to lie - I'm bothered by the graphics. You can argue that the developers aren't pushing the system all you like - it takes a lot more time to do that - I never pick up an Xbox 360 or PS3 game and go "ugh... that bothers me."

I've also been bothered by sloppy controls in Sonic and the Secret Rings, and frustrating controls in Twilight Princess minigames, and just by a general sense that the games are oversimplified.

I have to admit i would have probably liked it a lot better if it had 360/ps3 graphics but i really like it anyway. Its a fun console with great first party titles that i have to have no matter what they look like, and this is coming from a xbox fan.Im glad to see nintendo is back on top because for awhile it looked like they were in trouble. If i need graphics ive got my 360.

Your point is well taken and when some good games that at least look like xbox/gamecube games then I might buy one but not before then. Motion is a great concept but I will not buy a console based on just that.

I honestly don't blame you. I only got a Wii at launch because I knew that I was going to end up getting one later anyways.

Sorta, but not a fully fledged aussie accent, and I don't say gday as much as others do.

Odd question, lol.

I expected the Wii not to match the 360 or PS3 so that's not a problem , what is a problem is that the Wii until now did not match the Gamecube with a lot of games and that is a disgrace .

I'm enjoying Paper Mario though ( and my 360 ofcourse ) .

Doesn't bother me as it kept the system from being $500. Also, I have a 360.goblaa

I agree with this 100% it's all about game play for me. The Wiimote is just great fun I can still play Mega Drive games and have great fun and the Wii graphics are a millon times better than thoses days.

As a Gamecube owner last generation I have to say that at present I'm disappointed with the Wii. Not with the graphics as such but the fact that months after it's release there are only a handful of games that are truely great for it.

I don't mind the port overs but at least do something else with it like add some new levels and not just slap on Wii controls fooling people into thinking it's a new game.

Also views from 'Masachika Kawata' who says that the upcoming Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles Wii game has been made easier because Wii owners don't want complex games or hard games, is not a good start.

Just because Nintendo has ideals about gaming doesn't mean that all Wii games have to follow suit.

What bothers me is that the Wii is capable of better games than I've seen so far. It will never out perform either the Xbox 360 or PS3 graphically but then it was never designed to but it should do better than what I've seen.

I think the devs are just trying to make a fast buck on the wii and just porting games over and not taking advantage of the hardware. The dreamcast had great looking games month's after launch seeing as how the wii is a faster gamecube with more memory, the wii should also have good looking games also.

It is a shame that it lacks the power of the other two consoles. It stems beyond just how pretty the graphics are. Anyone know the game "Cellfactor"? Can you imagine how cool it would be to have physics-based gameplay like that using the Wiimote? Unfortunately we will never see it because the processing power of the Wii is not up to the task.

It's annoying when you look at devs pick because they (at the moment) don't look great but when

you play the actual games you don't care cos it's soo much fun. Also the graphics ARE good just not

next gen. Wii owners get next gen gameplay over next gen visuals...personally i believe we made the

right choice ^_^

It doesn't bother me that we don't get 360 or PS3 quality visuals, but it bothers me that developers are too lazy to create better visuals than most last gen games!

Visuals like Zelda's (TP), Mario Galaxy, Res Evil 4 and Metroid Prime are all fine by me... but worse than these visuals? There's just no excuse other than the devs being lazy!

...NOTE - if the art style is good, then I'm all for it! Even if it could've been done on last gen consoles, ie: Wind Waker, Okami, SoTC, Viewtiful Joe!

[QUOTE="Wanderer5"]I not bother. Super Paper Mario look great IMO. Can't wait for Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3.majadamus

Nah, Super Paper Mario bothers me the most. Those graphics could've been done by the N64.

I've played both the original Paper Mario for the N64 and SPM for the Wii, and I can confidently say that SPM's graphics are MUCH better than those of the original!

Nah, I'm guessing it's a restaurant? I live in Melbourne so I dunno if they've got spots down there...

And yeah, I have a couple of friends that say "gday mate" a lot...but I've never heard anyone say goohgeous in my life! New one for me.

lol, I take it you're not Aussie (pretty sure you said you were American, can't remember)? Everyone is always fascinated about our slang.

Not really.  I wouldn't have purchased it if it had "great" graphics and a hefty price tag.

While better graphics would havw been nice, I think the graphics do look great, and I would rathre have th wii as it is now, instead of a 400+$ Wii, so no the wii's graphics don't bother me.

Well I've been playing a lot of Diablo 2 lately so I doubt that the graphics would annoy me that much.  It's the lack of games that's stopping me from getting a Wii right now.
