Now Don get me wrong as it is just my opinion, but im feed up of hearing how hardware is always at fault because his vision is to big. I mean MGS4 will be great and he deserves respect but for god sake why does he blow his own trumpet all the time its quite sad.

I will be buying MGS4 as I am a big fan but this guy needs to realise all hardware has limits & he will need to use his "VISION" to get around them.

He's not big-headed, he just has his heads in the clouds instead of down here with reality. It strikes me as a very immature quality in a game developer if his vision comes before the techonology rather than being steered and stimulated by what there is available.

His vision could've been forfilled on the PC, so yeah, he has the right to be disappointed. Everyone makes mistakes and overestimating the PS3 for his baby MGS4 was his mistake. But I don't blame him because he wasn't the only one who fell for the false hype on how powerful the PS3 was suppose to be, it was false advertisement.

No, he's just a perfectionist who really dreams big. From what I hear, he's very humble. He always tries his best to please his fans, even though they, unfortunately, don't, for the most part, show him the same respect and gratitude in return.

The reason in the first place the Metal Gear series came to be was because of limits of hardware. The idea of stealth gameplay was thought up by Kojima because so many people were trying to put so much action on hardware like the NES but could never get it to be what it should've.

And, if hardware was such an issue for Kojima, he would've released MGS2/3 for the Xbox or GC rather than the PS2.

He released MGS2: Subsistance for the Xbox and, despite good reviews, it didn't sell well so he didn't port the sequels.

His vision could've been forfilled on the PC, so yeah, he has the right to be disappointed. Everyone makes mistakes and overestimating the PS3 for his baby MGS4 was his mistake.

ReverseCycology

That games looks amazing so far. It seems that, if you gave this guy unlimited hardware, he would just keep on making the game and never release it. Also, this game is impossible to play on the PC without a joypad. I tried MGS2 on the PC and that only has a lot of the same control mechanisms as this game and that was so hard to use without the pad.

He's not big-headed, he just has his heads in the clouds instead of down here with reality. It strikes me as a very immature quality in a game developer if his vision comes before the techonology rather than being steered and stimulated by what there is available.

What's wrong with devs want more? :S He could easily dev it for PC and realise his dream then dumb it down for consoles, but I don't think you guys would like that and I don't think he will do his fanbase that.

Yeah I agree with you mate, Hardware is not really an issue, but he always blames it - for example he needs more than 50gb blu-ray disk, but most MGS games can be compleated in a few hours. so do you think he exaggerates.

I will rephrase my question to - does Kojima exaggerate the limitations to make his talants seem bigger than they are?

Thinking like that prevents true innovation.

In this day and age, developers should let technology limit them as less as possible. They need to think big, and they need to be creative into making their dreams a reality.

Would Nintendo be where they are today if they didn't think of something crazy, and attempt to make it with the technology we have available today?

anthonydwyer

That's basically the exact same question.

The thing is people think that because the games take only a limited time to beat means that the game isn't truly that big. You also have to take into effect that MGS has some of, if not, the highest productions values ever seen in a game. Not to mention things like VR Missions and Codec conversations. Those most likely tend to take up quite a lot of space.

And I love how all these people are wondering if Kojima thinks he's great now that he's disappointed. When was he complaining before?

Considering he is one of the most critically acclaimed video game designers, I think not.

lol I can see what you're saying. MGS is one of the best games of all time, but he does have a big head.

He acts like going into making each game that he doesnt know his vision wont be exact. I mean, we're still stuck on set top boxes that plug into the TV. His ideas would be virtually reality probably. He's kinda egotistical I guess...

Now Cliffy B, he's an arrogant son of a gun in my opinion, lol. I love Gears of War, but he acts like he is a rockstar or something. I think Kojima has a big head, but he isnt loud about it. Cliffy B is, I think.

his "dissapointment" didn't stop him from making an awesome game. if he had lost the will to make it as best as it could possibly be, then there would be an issue.

I don't care as long as he does a good job. Presumably he's going too and I'm going to pick up his game and love it to death.

I've already got my MGO beta key and I'm gonna love playing that.

People having "vision" is not a bad thing. It's what makes GT5 so impressive and what makes every game from Naughty Dog and Insomniac technically impressive.

The only bad thing about this is that he said something that fanboys are eating up.

Nah it's ok to not be satysfied with the final product and the game it's still great.

But something funny here. If anyone had said that MGS4 didn't turned out as great as it was originally planned (by judging what we've seen so far) he'd be completely bashed by fanboys but since it's Kojima everyone is saying ''no prob it's alright''.

So every single game journalist who has played the virtually final build of the game to completion citing it as a brilliant game are all drunken liars?

He's just mad Sony over-promised and under-delivered with the ps3. He actually bought into it and thought he'd be able to realize his vision.

Rofl, true. The French big him up as if he saved France during WW2. All he did was escape France when Germany invaded and set up the new French government in the UK and beg us for years not to let France die, then we saved France and who do the French thank? Charles De f****** Gaulle

that's his wish anyway. I have Edge sitting next to me and he said he'd love to become a publisher like Miyamoto. Basically he'd rather spread his ideas across several groups of people instead of focusing on one game. It's debatable whether on not Miyamoto is slightly egocentric though, since he does have his names in the credits of games he's never worked on.

Even now, you still get idiots on forums proclaiming how the ps3 is 5x the power of the xbox1.5.

Kojima is just seeimg the reality - its a great console; perhaps superior to the 360 in MANY ways, its just not the amazing step forward that SONY was promising!

I believe a man's creativity is measured by how he gets around the limitations of his craft and utilizes it efficiently nstead of decries it. If Kojima is really the creative director we all know and love, MGS4 should be fine. Then again, if he needs more than freaking 50GB of space and he overestimates the power of the Cell, how creative is he really? MGS4 will be all the proof we need come June.

An artist always calls his end results as failures, it only natural he wants to strive more and more.ArisShadows

You think the Fanboy's here that?

It's true, in every medium, but Oh well.

That's what it is. Like so many artists, he's a perfectionist and competist. He feels his work is incomplete, therefore it will bomb before his eyes. What he needs to know are the limitations of his medium.

It's always better to aim high.. Fable fans will agree. It really doesn't matter if we 'think' he has a big head because none of us even know him personally.

You know who's extremely Humble, the Guys who made Bomberman Act Zero, Two Worlds, Hour of Victory, and Superman. Extremely humble and don't blow their trumpets.

Try their games out instead of creating these threads for us. Apparently EGO bothers you, so go play their games.
