Does Mafia and Mafia II still have the best storyline for a open world game?

Having played Grand Theft Auto 5 it doesn't seem to be any improvement over 4's story. By comparison, it's comvoluted. It seems to me Mafia and Mafia II still have the most mature and well told story for an open world crime game.

Do we all agree on this?

lol, no. Mafia 1 had a pretty good story, but I'm still waiting to play the second half of Mafia 2's story

And today, the original Mafia is a clunky mess, if your idea of fun is wrestling with the controls where a human being is less responsive than a damn truck, then sure, go for it, but otherwise, stay away unless you're really curious... or nostalgic.

the first one has one of the best stories regardless of genre so...yes.

Mafia 1 is one of my favorite games ever and has an amazing story, but the sequel while a good game did not have a great story.

Red Dead is also up there in terms of stories for open world games, but I think i'd still give the nod to Mafia 1.

Never played the Mafia games and for many of the GTA games story wise they weren't exactly what you consider a masterpiece or mindblowing

It must be said as well, gangsters movies take note from reality. High quility well written shows like Sopranos take inspiration from criminals such as Richard Kuklinski. When the young  reddit posting anime fans come along and claim somehow, The Godfather is original like it didn't have some source  before it, I giggles.
