[QUOTE="SNIPER4321"][QUOTE="FreedomFreeLife"]some console gamers turn off my orignal mafia because it was too complex for them yet they complain about controlls. if u expect GTA type unserious, immature game with useless walking and pizza deliverym half nake girls and stript clubs than its not for you. but if u want mature theme game with serious story and art of writing and amazing atmosphere than Mafia is for you. the choice is yours gta isn't immature, its lighthearted and completely insensitive, people need to understand what mature is on these forums.I love how people say "NO" without ever played any Mafia game.savagetwinkie

well that racing mission suck and i just want it to complete and rush. but last mission was amazing. it was hard but very impressive and atmospheric shoot-out. SNIPER4321
Oh, yeah, it was hard, but the challenge didn't come from good game design... oh, no, it came right from the horrible clunkyness of game mechanics.
Gunplay is a mess, the movement and the camera is incredibly restrictive, I'd find it easier to park a damn truck in real life than to score a headshot in Mafia... and I pretty much suck behind the wheel! :P

I understand, and I agree... despite my criticisms here, as a whole, I really enjoyed Mafia. The sequel was great too, it looked great and I really loved the atmosphere, especially in the snowy parts. My only big complaint was the rushed and abrupt ending, as well. Felt like they wrote themselves into a corner with a story a bit too complicated to resolve in a more sensible manner.

And unrelated, ever played Ctulhu, Dark Corners of the Earth?
It's an older, Lovecraftian horror game that's clunky as hell, full of bugs, yet as a whole, I still found it quite charming.

They ruined Gunplay and shootouts (my fav part of mafia) by introducing stupid cover system so that console gamers can play with controllers. than there are long boring driving. meele is all about QTE. they just ruined it. i remember before mafia 2 release. all ppls were like hur hur its too linear!! why its not like GTA! why no Freeedomz!! than they dumbed it down*sigh*
Of all things, you bash the gunplay and combat in Mafia 2, the department that recieved by far the biggest improvements compared to the original? :o

Mafia 1 plays perfectly fine with a mouse and keyboard. Chances are being very young, you played on the console.

Why show a video clip comparing CoD to Half life 2? That has nothing to do with what I said and doesn't even try to counter what I said. I gave the gravity gun a nod, it was fun but the game was still a corridor shooter

maturity,
if your talking about content, gta 5 is meant for adults
if your talking about it as a product, its a finished product
For the game, its a mature game in both the ways talking, content and product lifecycle,
Now the gamers on the otherhand... well thats debatable. But a mature player can understand the difference between reality and fake. A good portion of being a mature is knowing where/when to act certain ways, you can play a game like this and be mature, because its a fantasy world where you get to play as a criminal.
Mature players keep fantasy in the fantasy, its all about being a criminal, but the game basically is as offensive, and violent as it can be. Mature players aren't going to go kill a hooker because GTA allows them to do it, they'll pay her and tip her well obviously like any good human beings should treat a hooker.

I clearly remember playing it a couple of years ago, and though the game has its problems, it's in no way, shape or form clunky as hell. As for bugs, i think the PC version is bug free by now.

I played it earlier this year, and I still think it's clunky as all hell, it's painfully slow, the shooting is all over the place, and all the time, it just feels... odd.
As for bugs, ran into some really problematic technical issues where I got through the crashes by pure luck, had consistent crashing in one spot, couldn't fix it in any way, but ultimately, got through by luck, game simply decided to let me through after 20 crashes or so. And yes, I was using that unofficial patch.

Half Life 2.... was a corridor shooter.... idiot.
the vast majority of the game you're in some sort of corridor or fairly limited path, just because you can pick things up doesn't make the gameplay any more sandboxy/openworld. Yes its a fun game, yes the interaction/grav one was fun, yes the way it tells the story was awesome, but the game is horribly overrated because when you got past the flair the core mechanics were pretty standard, Standard AI, standard weapons apart from the grav gun. Shitty vehicle handling. Halo that came out 3 years before it was a much better game, co-op, sandbox, great ai, Max payne 2 that came out a year before was even better, the interactivity with the environment was much better with bullet time and watching ragdolls get flung into shit. Or red faction that came out in 3 years earlier that you could tunnel through rooms with a rocket launcher... Comparing it to the original CoD i don't get why you'd want to even do that. The original CoD came out in 2003 and was more designed to capture the intensity and comradery of fighting in a war and it did a great job at what What I remember of half life 2... you could launch barrels into peoples faces... that was the high light of the game for me, I had already played games with better ai/physics/destructibility funner gameplay. in general.[QUOTE="wis3boi"][QUOTE="uninspiredcup"]

I know the gunplay is pretty horrible, maybe you're referring to that, aswell as the weird jerky motion the hands/gun have (dunno how to explain better than that). But the controls are not clunky. Just standard first person m/kb combo.
If the game ditched the shooting aspect, which sucks, and focused on some more situational action (like how you have you run wile locking the doors in a certain situation) and storytelling, basically making it a adventure game, it would have been awesome.
Damn, that would have been awesome.

Yeah... I guess it would be more accurate to call the controls unresponsive, standard stuff, but pushing buttons doesn't transfer well to the in-game actions. And true, would've been better with no shooting, hitting an enemy was pure luck, sometimes, the bullets just went through. And that fight near the end with those flying... polyps, or whatever the game called them, was a nightmare.
Still, it was an oddly good game, and if we ever got a sequel, I'm sure it would've ended up awesome.
