I don't see why they should, they have completely abandoned their fanbase in order to make money. Anyone who defends their actions needs an ass kicking. Even worse they are having a negative effect on gaming. Gimmicks like Wii fit and casual games that took 6 months to make like Mario Kart Wii, regularly outselling games like MGS and Gears, developers will begin to question why should they make next gen games pushing hardware to the limit when they can make a game the whole family will play and it will sell 3 times better.OhyeasNintendo has my respect because they did something different and succeeded. I always respect wise business decisions and Nintendo has made the other companies look like crap in that arena. Having said that, I won't buy a wii (again) unless a) It's $100 (about as much as I think the wii is actually worth. or b) they get a naval ship load of core games.
Games like Wii Fit and Wii music are no where near the real quality of some excellent Wii games like Super Mario Galaxy.SSBB and the others. Its kinda sad. Instead of actually going outside and exercising, people need Wii Fit? There's a huge difference in going out and exercising really than playing a game and moving a controller.
I like the Wii the least of this gen. Mainly because of the lack of GREAT games. Its a good console but its got a lot of shovelware, its almost sickening. I don't like the direction Nintendo is going... Sure aim for the casuals, but don't fully ignore the hardcore. Games like Mad World and many more are there catering for the hardcore, but only time can tell how good they are.
Nintendo should release Icarus,Metroid and should focus on new IPs rather than shovelware. Why they even licence these garbage is beyond me.Attract casuals with good games, not crap. Make them atleast feel they're spending well worth their money.
The Wii may be leading in terms of sales, but it does not focus on the quality of games.Games are constantly looking cheaper with the exception of a few... This is kinda sad considering how well the Gamecube was last gen. Games like Resident Evil 4,0, Remake and Star Fox Adventures, Metroid Prime, Tales of Symphonia pushed the visuals ahead along with innovating gameplay. The Wii sadly isn't doing either.
Nintendo still has my respect because of their excellent games in the past. I wanna see Nintendo go into an excellent direction just like they did in the past. The Wii has a lot of potential, and I want Nintendo to utilize that and not sales.
most kids are too young, to remember anything nintendo related. if you hate nintendo cause of wiifit and wiimusic, then you should of hate them many years ago, since they been putting out games thats similar to that for many years. Rahnyc4But not to this degree. Yes, they have done casual before, but now more than ever are they releasing games appealing to the casual.
Halo 3 and GTA 4 have had the biggest sales this gentktomo01
No, that would be Wii Sports and Wii Play.

Wii play and Wii sports were bundled with the console and scontroller respectively. They're still the official top sellers, and it doesn't matter if Wii Play was bundled with a controller, because it would have had similar sales without it.[QUOTE="peterom11"][QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"]Wii play and Wii sports were bundled with the console and scontroller respectively. You serious? really?
WiiPlay costs an extra $10. People want an extra controller so they buy the bundle instead because its cheap, and has greater value to them.
[QUOTE="Theguy56"][QUOTE="Grinning_Demon"]The Wii is the new NES. And just like back then, when old text based PC gamers where all pissy about its success, the self proclaimed hardcore of today (funny enough, most from the playstation era) act like somebody stole their cockie. In the real world however, people just enjoy their system, oblivious of the ridiculous amount of rage some people are able to put in something as "unimportant" as videogames. I'd say that if Nintendo lost the respect of THOSE gamers, they are on the right track.Cherokee_JackIt's as important as any other hobby. That is, not at all.
Hobbies are for entertainment and for relaxing. They are.

I don't think removing the extra controller would have had that deep of an impact on sales.

Hobbies are for entertainment and for relaxing. They are.
Entertainment and relaxing are nice, but not important. Politics is important, science is important, video games are not important.Since I'm old enough to have played Super Mario Bros. when it was first released (at a friends house), I can say that I have always respected Nintendo for it's hardware, games, and innovation. They have not drastically altered they're business plan or altered their philosophy since they turned the gaming back in the 80's
Younger gamers who were brought up in the PlayStation era are used to a much different video game experience, i.e. more buttons on the controllers, higher levels of graphics, FPS and horror games etc. more complex overall game design.
I respect Sony for giving us the PlayStation, which was the first game console I owned, it was an amazing system. I respect Microsoft for breaking into the video game industry at the same time the juggernaut PS2 was revolutionizing the video game industry (with its vast and varies library which included a lot of "casual" games.)
In the end, it's all about making money, and Nintendo must be making money on shovelware. The Wii extends their consumer base to include younger children, woman, and older adults. The other companies have so far kept to the usual gaming demographic. That usually suggest that a company is looking to survive long term, rather than shine bright for a short time, then flame out.
Nintendo has lost mine. Gone back to playing my NES and SNES rather than buying a Wii. Replaying Super Mario RPG. Now if something like that or Donkey Kong Country II or any of the other plethora of games that made the NES and SNES amazing came out on the Wii then I would think about buying one.
As of right now $250 is really over priced for a Wii. If it was $100 I still might only consider it.

It's as important as any other hobby. Although I agree with you about these system wars, it ain't exactly fair to demerit people's interests.
As important as any other form of entertainment. Meaning its not important enough to justefy the amount of meltdowns. elitist attitudes and kindergarten fights we see in message boards. Its entertainment, not politics.

Entertainment and relaxing are nice, but not important. Politics is important, science is important, video games are not important. What I meant so say was they are important for entertainment. Yes those are important but I somehow doubt people won't die of boredom if they don't relax every once in a while.I still have a great deal of respect for Nintendo because that company brought me into the gaming world with the NES. But after the disappointment that was the gamecube and the fact that the PS2 blew the gamecube out of the water I became a cow. And I'm not missing out on anything much on the Wii. I made a good decision to stick with Sony.
But I still respect Nintendo and the legacy's such as Mario and Link that got me into gaming. But not everything on Gamecube sucked, there was Smash Brothers Melee, Luigi's Mansion and Twlight Princess but it lacked good multiplatforms and the rest of the exclusives didn't apeal to me as much.
I'm 80% cow because the PS2 converted me from sheep. I did have a PS1 but it wasn't as good as the PS2 because the games weren't as fun.
I'm 15% sheep because I still have a great deal of respect for Nintendo even though I don't like the Wii. Nintendo got me into gaming and I still love my NES, SNES and N64.
I'm 4% hermit, even though console gaming >>> PC gaming, I use my computer to play PC exclusives such as World of Warcraft.
I'm 1% lemming, don't get me wrong, I like the 360, I play it with my friends all the time. But I don't own one, and I also never owned an original Xbox. But I don't like how the 360 doesn't have as many great exclusives as the PS3. (BTW, it's implied that this is my opinion!) And the original Xbox only had like 3 decent exclusives.

You do know that the Gamecube had better graphics then the PS2, right? And no, the shovelware is not selling.

You'd be surprised how many people still think the Gamecube was weaker then the PS2.
And this is coming from someone who owned a PS2 last gen and never had a GC.

I didn't mention the graphics of the Gamecube; I owned one a loved the graphics. I was referring to the PS1. The PS2 library was varied and immense, and still growing for that matter.
And if the shovelware isn't selling, why is it still being made? What's the sales level required to make a shovelware title profitable?

I was one of those people actually, before I joined GS and such I always thought GC was the weakest. I guess Nintendo or the media just didn't get the word out or something. Or maybe Sony got the wrong word out much more. ;)
Edit: @jimkabrhel: Ah, I thought you meant all Sony consoles, my mistake.
It's still being made because lots of developers want to make quick cash so they put it on the console with the biggest userbase. I assume that they don't spend much on making the games, but the games never do sell much so if they do make a profit, it's never a big one.
